Nine Inch Nails - Love Is Not Enough Lyrics
The more that we take
The paler we get
I can't remember what it is
We try to forget
The tile on the floor
In your eyes is a place
Worth remembering
For you to go and take this, to smash it apart
I've gone all this fucking way
To wind up back at
Back at the start
[Chorus:]
Hey, the closer we think we are
Now you got anything left to show
No no I didn't think so
Hey, the sooner we realize
We cover ourselves with lies
But underneath we're not so tough
And love is not enough
Well it hides in the dark
Like the withering vein
We didn't give it a mouth
So it cannot complain
It never really had a chance
We'd never really make it through
I never think I'd believed
I believed I could get better with you
[Chorus]

Back in the day, I always thought "Self Destruct" lineup was the quintessential one. "With Teeth" was the first NIN tour I got a chance to see, and I saw them every time they came to NY; Fall, Summer, etc etc. I didn't really appreciate it at the time (isn't that funny?), but now I honestly think this may have been the best fusion of old and new NIN aesthetic via the members. Starting with Jerome, who was an infinitely more precise and 'musical' drummer than Chris, the majority of the lineup is extremely tight, adding just enough little personal flourishes to the material to give it color while staying controlled enough to nail every dynamic rise and fall so well that the record pales in comparison. Then you have the (at the time) controversial Aaron North, who serves as the agent of chaos, turning lead breaks/solos into walls of noise and feedback, occasionally improving, and just generally exhibiting a manic energy that recalled NIN's early days. All of this came together to create a live act that could sync up with elaborate visual displays while at the same time managing to feel unpredictable. Some of these songs from the "Rehearsal" videos, I didn't particularly like on the record at the time, but seeing them this way...well shit, it's hard to deny
mywhychromosome What was controversial about north?
I always thought he was fantastic
@Alex Gordon At the time, a lot of the NIN forums, etc (they had an insanely active online community, still do, but esp then) were abuzz with divided opinions on him. I think BECAUSE he actually dared to change the songs a bit (rather than imitate Trent's sounds), and especially because he did so in a punk-inspired, sometimes 'sloppy' manner, there was a certain segment of the fanbase that just wanted a "professional", a session musician, basically. Also you have to remember, this was the first non-Finck guitarist in over 10 years
wtf?! why is this recording so compressed to hell? it hurts to listen ;(
And to think this is just a rehearsal.. Holy shit.
Undoubtedly the best version of this song.
This performance blows my mind
He aint just saying shit to say it, he means it
The With Teeth rehearsals are so goddamn good
rschiela I wish there were more
Absolutely fantastic. This has truly inspired me to make music and experiment with noises and musical approaches when I was 17. Thanks to this I have discovered all sorts of industrial music and experimentation. Thanks a lot for being there Trent and ИIN!
kocham !
Can someone please tell me who the drummer is? It's not Jerome Dillon, is it?
It is Jerome Dillon. He worked with NIN for some of the With Teeth tour gigs.
He toured "With Teeth" until he had heart issues during a live performance, first resulting in the band stopping, and then after an attempted return to the stage, collapsing once more and causing the gig to be cancelled. He was replaced, with the initial 'press-release' essentially being that it was until he got his health sorted out, but Jerome's own statement later on basically claimed he was unceremoniously 'abandoned' and then blackballed from the band. My personal assumption was that Trent (correctly or not I can't say) assumed that his heart palpitations and collapse were drug-related, and because this was the very first "Sober Trent"(tm) tour, he quietly kicked him off for that reason. But I could be totally off base.
@mywhychromosome That is exactly right
@Rob Hoyt You mean why wasn't welcome back, or the first part?? Haha.
motherfucking epic.. is that Rob on the keys?
Maestro cazzo
I miss 2005 trent
Snape on those lead vocals..
is that nick zinner on guitar?
Aaron North
so good
Still the best song they did on the "With Teeth" Album. Just a fucking amazing, beautiful, yet dark song. Trent Reznor is the Fucking Man!
They opened with it on those tours, and while on the record I felt it didn't stick out when compared to songs like "Every Day" etc, it was a showstopper in person...and the band was BEHIND A FUCKING SCREEN, SEEN ONLY IN SILHOUETTE
@badbenij360 Sounds similar to that deployed in Survivalism.
love and sex is not enough
does anyone know what sequenced drum vst is being played in the intro? been needing to know!
heeeeeeeeeeey!
I CAN´T REMEMBER WHAT IT IS I TRY TO FORGET NEITHER
PADRE, LA CONOSCENZA E' DI TUTTI!! 1+
CD+DVD+LIBRO
@80XY Twiggy is THE BEST,hand picked by the G.O.D......lol
Can someone tell me what type of drumset that is?
@razorbladethorax : With NIN we are witnessing the historical superiority of one artist. The more time passes the more impressive and overwhelming Trent´s file becomes. Perceiving the visual and sonic quality of these documented series of rehearsals -that will surpass what countless bands do when on stage in front of an audience- is clear evidence that those who thought everything had been done and written in music were utterly wrong.
it's like a hundred times better than the album version..
@80XY
Forgot his name???
@80XY Actually he didn't play on this album at all, Trent plays everything himself on pretty much every album (excluding drums) and then assembles a live band, which is where Jeordie comes into it
@80XY
actually Trent Records almost all the instruments himself except drums :)
each tour he has a different live band however and this is just a rehearsal :)
I have to agree, but with Freese instead of Dillon and Aaron North not actually playing guitar but going spastic on the stage it's quite a sight to behold.
weakest line up...he's ever had.
@somedaytheendwillcom that's one of the many reasons "with teeth" is my favorite NIN album
@o0derkish0o yeah, 2005-2009 was pretty active for NIN, they even came to my country :D the newspapers wrote: the best concert of the decade
you know dave ghrol played like 7 of the studio recorded songs on this album right?
That is Jerome Dillon...longtime NIN drummer. Departed during the With_Teeth tour.
lets just say its industrial
Industrial Folk.
industrial METAL.....listen to the riffs, totally metal
You are also right on that. Hurt is very heavy as well
with teeth a great fucking album?
This is one of the heaviest and darkest emotional songs ever....
Adoro Nine Inch Nails! Son los más grandes.. y me encanta el metal. Pero NiN metal? No.. eso si que no. Ni ahora ni nunca.. en el broken se acercaron, pero seguían siendo Rock Industrial.. de todas formas, eso no es nada malo, no?
\m/ .... Long Live to NIN! =P ...I love this song, the guitar is aggressive ...NIN ARE METAL MOTHERFUCKERS!
fuckers
Check the 'smoochers' at 3:39. Yum!
Im about 90% sure its reaktor.
Could be MaxMSP, as he said he does a lot of work on it, but it really does sound like reaktor more than anything else.
just for a wee bit of nit-picking here =P
I dont think its saturated, as much as it is Quantized (or bitcrushed)
He seems to be very fond of bitcrushing in The Slip i must say!
that's right, the same saturated Kick.
we still use it on a lot of songs.
I absolutely love this and I didn't even realize it was on the DVD! I wish I could have seen them during the With Teeth days. But it's all good -- seeing them soon!! :D
i agree.. dillon was the right man for nin
cortini's intro makes me shiver
Grow the fuck up, pissycunt.
I've always wondered what the deal is with these switchboard things that bands likle NIN and Radiohead use, are they actual insturments and what are they hooked up to
I love the synth drums
I never realized how good twiggy sings back up
ok so did jerome. but with teeth, besides these guys, is all trent.
No it's not.
Trentastic!!!
The Hand that Feeds was filmed in the Rehearsal room, they pretty much just did the song with a little more action in their movements and distorted the camera (They had a director for that video)
I love how the sound is so crisp with NIN songs - another perfect example.
