Nina Simone - I Can't See Nobody Lyrics

I walk the lonely streets; I watch the people passing by.
I used to smile and say hello. Guess I was just a happy guy.
Then you happened, girl, this feeling that posessses me.
I just can't move myself. I guess it all just had to be.

[Chorus]
I can't see nobody...no, I can't see nobody.
Mine eyes can only look at you...you.

I used to have a brain; I used to think of many things.
I watched the falling rain and listened to the sweet birds sing.
Don't ask me why, little girl. I love you and that's all I can say.
You're ev'ry, ev'ry breath I take. You are my nights; my night and day.

[Chorus]

Every single word you hear...is coming from this heart of mine.
I never felt like this before...a love like yours so young and fine.
And now as I try to forget you...it doesn't work out any way.
I loved you such a long time ago...but in my eyes you'll always be.
Every single word you hear...is coming from this heart of mine.
I loved you such a long time ago...don't know why...
And I don't know why...baby...

[Chorus]

[Chorus]

    Go Bee Gees!

LOL, LOVE how Cissy Houston is MOVING IN THAT BACKGROUND! Her soprano just tops the whole song like the most perfect cherry! Go, Nina. SANG Cissy!

Robin Gibb's passion & drive is sorely missed. Gosh, she sounds like an old pensioner!

@KL I'm sorry I don't appreciate her rendering at all. Leonard Cohen did much better in this 1980's live performance of "To Love Somebody". Different yet beautiful arrangement & subdued yet soulful performance. Really from the heart. I feel Nina Simone here lacks feeling & soul, IMHO 🤢https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDaioEARz_0

Nah. Firstly, different songs but to go with the comparison--Cohen is amazing in his solemn, poetic way but there is absolutely a fierce undercurrent of energy and emotion to Nina Simone's voice. Neither of them do conventionally "passionate" versions, both have their unique phrasing. Ms. Simone puts her characteristic slightly defiant, almost teasing, sneakily vulnerable spin on it. And she knows how to make this genre's rhythm work for it, and leap into luminous, joyful territory too. I really don't see how anyone can be unmoved by it.

I knew she covered the Bee Gees' To Love Somebody and she did an amazing live version that's out there somewhere, but I had no idea she covered this Bee Gees song. One of my favorites.
