Nina Simone - Black Swan Lyrics

The sun is falling and it lies in blood
The moon is weaving bandages of gold
Old black swan where oh where is my lover now
Where oh where is my lover now

Torn and tattered is my bridal gown and my lamp is lost
With silver needles and with silver threads
The stars stitch a route for the dying sun
Old black swan where oh where is my lover now

I had given him a kiss and a golden ring
And a golden ring
I had given him a kiss of fire and a golden ring
Oh with silver needles and with silver threads
The stars stitch a route for the dying sun

Black wing o black wing take me down with you
Take me down with you take me down with you
Take me down with you
Old black swan take me down with you
I had given him a kiss of fire
Take me down with you

As always Nina beautiful Nina, such a talented woman.

  3. J.... C....

These melodies (voice and music) are beautifully sweet.

  4. w.... ....

Lyrics are partly by Gian Carlo Menotti, Music is by Nina Simone herself (but non credited on the album)

  5. w.... ....

The music played and sung by Nina Simone here has nothing to do with the music by G.C.Menotti. The text is the same as in the opera "The medium", but the music seems to be a proper composition by Nina Simone, and, I must say, way much better than Menotti's.

    w.... ....

+wavelength what? it takes liberties with Menottis music, certainly, but that is very obviously the core of the song, even the key change in the middle is Menottis.

    w.... ....

+wavelength i mean, it's genius, obviously, but don't take credit away from where it's due. it's actually more interesting that way.

    w.... ....

I have know The Medium for many decades (having seen it in my teens, sung live by Maureen Forrester) and was blown away to discover Nina Simone had covered Black Swan, and so beautifully!

My late Daddy loved this song...and I remember it as being on an Album (on Colpix Records) and it was with a lot of pops and such on it from so much playing by Dad. Whenever I heard it as a child, it reminded of a summer afternoon just listening to the Piano with Nina. I have it on CD today...and I always think of Papa. :)

i love the usa 4 the talent it has given us musically from different cultures races n creeds, but does the usa love its own ???,i could say alot of things but i will say this tax cuts 4 the rich nothing 4 the poor, spending trillions on weapons, what happened 2 the 180 million new orleans got in donations, come on america start looking after yr own people,n that dont mean spending more on weapons.mentally ill get no help homeless get no help n gd people reguardless of where they come from need jobs.

greedy businessmen killed musical freedom, when radio became pay 2 play only musical freedom died, even tho tru music can enrich peoples lives n offer tru cultural significance, business talked n tru music walked, try gettin a license it has 2 b digital. which is not the best format 2 hear live musicianship, also submit a list of unknowns 2 the radio board u only get 1 response NO,it hurts the world cos music can heal n bring hope 2 those that r suffering n live thru tru hardship but thats POLITICAL.

I grew up listening to this song, and my late Daddy singing it! It is a classic by her many have forgotten she did at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Most only know Nina for "To Be Young, Gifted, and Black. and "I Put A Spell On You". She was recording music way back in the 1960's...my Daddy wore this Album out, that whenever I was a child playing it on the record player, it was always sounded loud with pops, crakles, etc! A timeless classic, done in the style that only Nina could produce!

  22. S.... 2....

Yes, it is availiable on CD! It's part of the "Collectibles" Classics series....2 Albums on one CD. And it is clean!
