Nilsson, Harry - You're Breakin' My Heart Lyrics

You're breakin' my heart
You're tearing it apart
So fuck you

All I want to do is have a good time now I'm blue
You won't boogaloo,
Run down to Tramps, have a dance or two, ooohhh
You're breakin' my heart,
You're tearing it apart
But fuck you

You're breakin' my heart
You're tearing it apart, boo-hoo

You stepped on my ass
You're breakin' my glasses too
You won't drive my car, might be a star

I've had enough of you
I'm goin' insane
There's no one to blame
So fuck you

You can't have your way
There's nothing left to say
There's nothing left to do, ooooohhh
You're breakin' my heart
You're tearing it apart
So fuck you

You gotta have your way
There's nothing left to say
There's nothing left to do, ooooowww
You're breakin' my heart
You're tearing it apart
But I love you

To my boss....we teach at a school for young children, they rock. You do not.You somehow always put the little brown and black beautiful, wise, loving children last and you first. At least your big fat white ego. No, I have no love for you. So fuck right on off. OK, I feel better! Love you sweet kiddos! Ignore the moron in the office. You will meet a lot of stupid white men in your life time. Just sayin'. Now go and grow and prosper. Bless my babies. Fuck my boss. NOT literally.

  28. D.... C....

I was 9 years old when this came out. First time I'd ever heard the now common F-Bomb in a song. Couldn't get enough of it....

  29. l.... w....

    Genious...

  30. k.... ....

It’s hard to convey how scandalous, yet hilarious, this song was when it was released. Kids today here the “F” word in virtually every hip-hop song they hear now.

  31. m.... g....

Harry dedicated this song to his first wife who was divorcing him....Great lyrics!!!

  32. F.... B....

GREAT editing job, not that i know anything special about editing are anything like that, but I have seen cuts from 'Did Somebody Drop His Mouse?' a whole heck of a lot of times.

Great video. Have never seen it till just now. I love when I find a new Nilsson goody.

  44. s.... ....

Harry still rules from being the grave.

  45. D.... ....

When your friend gets out the Bass Saxophone it means business.

  46. m.... ....

I worked in the record department in Grants. I played this album all of the time. They never caught on. The guys in automotive requested this song often . Ha ha ha

    m.... ....

What city was your Grant's in? I bought records at Grant's in Yonkers, NY.

  47. K.... C....

    The ULTIMATE "breakup" song! 😀

  48. J.... S....

Brilliant song and a great video of a song writing legend.

  49. V.... D....

This is the first song of Harry's that I ever heard, in about 1980....and boy. was I ever hooked!! I listened to, and bought a lot of his albums. Still have "em, too.

  50. D.... B....

Better sound quality than some versions on Youtube, well done

  51. J.... B....

I spent many years in radio and I tried repeatedly to edit this song so I could play it on the radio (notwithstanding the bad language, it really is a great tune). My best attempt was when I took the "woo hoo" from the second verse and replicated it, replacing the FY's, but it just never worked. Nillson was one of my favorite artists but I didn't get to play much of his work on the radio because he didn't have that many hit records, and I worked primarily in Top 40 radio.

  52. s.... ....

My 7 th grade I'm a big boy album

  53. B.... N....

Love this! Years ago my wife had a run in with our landlords. I came home, she had the front widows wide open, this song blasting from our apartment.

  54. b.... ....

I was perhaps 14 when this LP came out. One of his best, most heartfelt songs - EVER!

  55. C.... ....

This album marked the beginning of the decline of Nilsson.

  56. J.... K....

    Harry was the best .
    we'll miss u.

  57. D.... P....

Perhaps the best song ever recorded

  58. A.... A....

Anybody come here after watching Private School?

  59. i.... ....

who came here from adventure time?

  60. E.... ....

Dunno who the guy is at 0:19 but he looks like a young Peter Frampton. And holy shit, here I find that Frampton played on several Nilsson songs. That's got to be him.

  61. B.... ....

Man they said bad words in songs back then too?

  62. M.... B....

Leave it to Harry to tell it like it is! This song feels so good to sing out as loudly as possible lol!

  63. G.... T....

great...I remember way back in the day playing loud so my mom could hear it...she used to get so pissed!!!!

  64. J.... M....

Thanks Harry and Fuck you back! :-)

  65. A.... C....

When I was a little kid, my mom bought this album on 8-track. Remember those? Remember how you could skip from one track to another and you could nail it down - when it gets right HERE on track 2, I can skip to track 3 and hear my favorite song! So, my mom liked (and bought the tape for) Joy and Remember Christmas and a couple of other songs, so I'm not sure she ever heard the entire album. So one summer day, she sets up the stereo with the speakers in the windows to blast music out to the yard where she's working in the garden, and puts in Son of Schmillson to play. As she worked her way up and down the rows of the garden, she was usually far enough away that she couldn't really hear the words to most of the music, but would happily sing along when the favorites played. The tape had played through a couple of times and we kids (who were probably 6, 7 and 9) were closer to the house, absolutely SHOCKED that our very Baptist momma would play such DIRTY MUSIC!! Mother happened to be a bit closer to the house when You're Breaking My Heart started play (AGAIN!!) and mother heard the words for the first time. It hit her like a brick wall 😳and she jumped straight up to her feet, came tearing through the garden and into the house, screaming "STOP LISTENING!! STOP LISTENING!!" We about wet our pants as she flew into the house and ripped the tape out of the stereo. She came back outside, just furious at us for not telling her about the dirty words, and most likely at herself for not knowing what she was allowing her innocent little children to hear. We were literally rolling on the ground laughing at her reaction to the whole thing. It's one of the funniest things to ever happen in my family, and one of my favorite childhood memories. Good times. Innocence: GONE!! 😂🤣😂🤣

    A.... C....

LOL!!! Oh wow, what a trip out!! :-)

    A.... C....

I remember those days. We were so lucky to grow up at a time of pure innocence. We used to put the 8-track in the car & place a matchbook underneath so it wouldn't sound warped!

    A.... C....

This is a humble but truly lovely piece of writing.

  66. F.... G....

Classic. With Richard Starkey on drums too!

    F.... G....

Fainting Goats Productions and George Harrison on slide guitar!

    F.... G....

Looked like Klaus Vorman on bass

    F.... G....

Fainting Goats Productions Bobby Keys on sax.

  67. E.... R....

George Harrison plays slide on this.

    E.... R....

    And Ringo on drums

  68. P.... D....

While stationed in Korea 73-74 the Lt's at Camp Page in ChunChon piped this into the Officer's Club during a formal affair caught hell for it but great prank!

    P.... D....

Thank you for your service, Pat Davis.

  69. A.... L....

I'll miss this guy 4ever. Yeah, I remember this song ----------------- BACK IN THE 70s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. D.... L....

you did great man it is FAB!!

  74. M.... S....

    very good work

  75. L.... M....

I remember listening to stations from everywhere at about age 10 and on, so from 1960 on. I had this tiny radio that didn't even have transistors, but had alligator clips that you could put on the radiator. I heard it all from western Mass. This was the first time I ever heard the F bomb! I love Nilsson. Thanks for doing such a good editing job.

    L.... M....

Lorraine Matthews crystal set. used the transmitted signal to power it.

  76. m.... ....

The first time I heard this song was on the radio. It was CJOM, a Canadian radio where they had no FCC.

    m.... ....

I had to go to the States to hear this on some no-FCC FM radio station on the East Coast. I also remember CJOM. But hell, we didn't even have electricity hardly anywhere where I was from. And listening to this made me hanker for Fred Neil's version of his song covered by Nilsson, 'Everybody's Talking at Me.' Fred was a friend and what a voice.

    m.... ....

Lorraine Matthews The FCC. controls the airwaves in the US. That is a Canadian radio call sign.

    m.... ....

I heard it on an Indianapolis FM (WNAP for Indiana people) at about 3 AM. The DJ didn't get a chance to play the entire song... I know he thought he was being cool and risqué, and he didn't think any of the bosses were listening, but after about a minute of it, the music stopped and after a couple of seconds of dead air, he started another song. He didn't say anything for a long time so I thought he got fired but eventually he started talking again, never mentioning Harry Nillson. I can just picture him jamming on this song when the hotline rings and it's the program director chewing him out and telling him to get this song off the air immediately!

    m.... ....

CJOM was widely available across the river in Detroit. It showed up in the golden age of Detroit FM c.1972. It was where I first heard "The Adventures Of The Stoned Ranger and His Faithful Indian Companion Toronto".

  77. S.... C....

Hey, nice job putting this together!! Thanks for sharing!

  78. P.... ....

    S.... *....

    You don't love your wife?

  86. J.... K....

Sharing in tribute to all the music and acting legends lost in the last several days. Sums up my feelings damn well.

  87. F.... F....

Just saw Harry's biography. What an incredibly talented, but tortured soul. So many artists are like that. I only wish Harry had loved himself enough. It's sad and tragic the way his career down-spiraled. He deserved better. This song epitomizes one of the reasons why I love him. He was so unique and did his own thing (just like his pal, John Lennon). RIP, Harry. You are missed.

    F.... F....

Yea, that documentary is very good. Of course, it leaves out quite a bit.

  88. D.... L....

Were it not for his lyricism, I'd still be sitting in an insane asylum somewhere with my thumb in my ass, wondering about the exact machinations of the lime and the coconut.

    D.... L....

    Coconut

    D.... L....

I still wonder about how the line runs up the back of those stockings...

    D.... L....

    Outstanding effort lad 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  89. j.... a....

    Nicely done !!

  90. T.... H....

The same time this was out, Nilsson wrote and performed the Courtship of Eddie's Father theme...Talk about 2 ends of the Spectrum!

    T.... H....

He also acted in an episode of "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir."

    T.... H....

"People, let me tell ya bout my best friend..." Yep.

    T.... H....

    He is very talented.

  91. s.... ....

This is pretty cool.  Ive had this song stuck in my head for 40 yrs.  HN was a genius of crossing genre barriers.  I liked his "Joy (to the world)" too.  As for this song, I could see Sam Kinison doing this song in his days.   But then again, it wouldn't have had that Harry pizazz.

  92. m.... ....

Outstanding job on this. If it wasn`t an official video to begin with it should be called one now. Thanks for posting.

  93. D.... R....

You're breakin' my glasses too! Miss ya Harry

  94. r.... ....

Sometimes I just wish Harry would of really said what was on his mind :) Won't find a more honest song writer... vid is excellent..looks very contemporary and the recording done at Trident holds up remarkably well.

    r.... ....

raindogred that's Right harry nilsson an unpredicted Genius

  95. B.... D....

Cee-Lo's got nothing on Harry.  The original bad boy of Rock'nRoll!

  96. R.... .....

I'm amazed there was a video for this! Would there have been any way to broadcast it, because of the language?

    R.... .....

There was never a video for this track at the time - it's something I've put together using footage from "Did Somebody Drop His Mouse?" which is an officially unreleased documentary about the making of the "Son Of Schmilsson" album (it's on my channel, do please have a look). I think this song was released as a B Side but obviously didn't get much airplay! Not in it's original form, anyway - lots of bad radio edits were put together at the time which omitted the F word.

Harry tells a funny story in one interview where he met a record store owner who had actually been to prison for playing the song in his store and had refused to stop playing it. As with lots of Harry stories you have to take them with a pinch of salt....

    R.... .....

+William Babishoff They did! I lived there. Dr. Demento played it I think. Still have a KMET button that reads, "Aw, shut up!" haha!

    R.... .....

+Harry Nilsson Archive  You did an outstanding job of editing this together.  Looks very professional and accurate yo the era.  This is one of the few LPs I had to buy a second copy of because I wore the original just about through the vinyl.  Thanks for posting.

  97. G.... L....

    Great job!
    It's a hit!

    G.... L....

    Thank you!
