Nik Kershaw - Faces Lyrics

They found me lost in space, nowhere to go
With the stakes so high and my resistance so low
They said "follow us, follow us today
We are the truth, we are the way"

"Young man" they said "your search is through"
You can trust in us, and we'll look after you
We will be your body we will be your mind
And we've a face of each and every kind
Yes we've a face of each and every kind"

[Chorus]
"One for us and one for you
One for old and one for new
One for rich and one for poor
One for peace and one for war
One for peace and one for war"

"There's no need for you to hear or see
We'll do your thinking for you, if you'll agree
So close your eyes and let yourself unwind
And we can leave the real world behind"

For a moment, I was taken in
They were in my body they were under my skin
Until I head a voice crying "Set me free"
And I realized that it was me
Yes I realized that it was me

Just when you really think you're going places
They come inside of you with their many faces

[Chorus]

  1. A.... O....

I accidentally read 2:40 as the wrong thing and now I cannot unsee/unhear that ever again.

*Thanks for posting my favorite NK song!*
Howard Jones (to whom Nik is compared with in the 80s)
released a song a year after this called "Why Look for the Key"
that had similar subject matter. But "Faces" is still the best!

  3. c.... ....

    illuminati or religion?

Nik Kershaw is a ledgend. He has no idea how to be mediocre, everything he composes and plays on is top notch.

  5. R.... ....

They cum inside of you with their many faces

  6. T.... ....

This is one of his best songs!

  7. W.... S....

Intelligent lyricist, often cynical in his songs, but like him all the same

  8. L.... M....

Simply beautiful... thank you Nik :0)

  9. t.... ....

Always have thought this the *creepiest* song Nik ever did. At least out of the ones I've heard.

  10. A.... E....

    I miss Alex.

he is a very inspirational and really talented musician;but the shame is that so many people have never heard of him,or any of his songs..

The song is about being a lonely person trying to find his place in the world and being offered promises by a group who offer a sense of belonging and identity. This group want you to join them and show one face when they want you to join ( the nice face) but then you find they have many faces and are ultimately two faced. and they want to take over your thinking and your life. The person in the song was sold and but realised he was compromising and heard a voice crying "set me free".  by channel Pinky Baloo.

I wanted to tell that person that this description is EXCELLENT. But I find I cannot communicate or thumbs up or anything else. So I did this.

    t.... ....

the illuminati and secret societies yes. Liars and decievers, they may already have taken him btw....

It's a critique of polytheism. Religions that have different gods for every different occasion and emotion like Hinduism. These are the different 'faces'. Gods of war, and gods of peace.

@PrincessKetty i got it off a facebook fan page :)

I like that pic of Nik, never saw before.

@VittellaY This song is about religion. This is from one of Nik's interview:

George Kent asks: "The song 'Faces' has always intrigued me. Is it about drugs or even religion?"

Nik Kershaw: "I can't remember...but seriously, it's very difficult going back on old songs and trying to remember what you were thinking about when you wrote them...but I seem to remember it was about religion and the hypocrisy of some organised religions."

    P.... ....

    Or politics?

  18. R.... ....

@VittellaY as far as i understood it, the song is about the different people that one meets in the world, some good, some bad, some use their face as a mask to hisde the reality . hope i helped :)
