The odyssey; it's a reference to the sirens odysseus must sail around.

He tied himself to the wheel of the boat because he needed his hearing to watch out for a trap that can doom his men, but the sirens also existed on the other side of the strait to lure men in. So his men not needing to hear, stuffed their ears with bees wax to block out the noise.

What I said is not 100% accurate, but it is something to that tune.

What I meant by asking 'what is the story and meaning behind the song' is like what's the alegory ... like is it about Tuomas relationship with somebody or is is about music industry ... who knows. I love this song. For many reasons. My little boy used to fall asleep to this one and a few others by Nightwish. He can't get enough of them sometimes. He'd listen to all of them if I'd let him but he's only ten and not ready yet for some. But he knows that one day (soon actually, I think 12 is OK) he'll get to. I even promised him I'd buy him his own copies and at that point it's up to him what he listens to. That's not to say that I won't check in and know what he's got but because I feel a parent should keep tabs on their kid but only up to a point. It's a fine line at times but I don't want to smother his creativity, love of music and art just as I want him to be free to be his own person. You can't edit life it just happens and when he looks back I don't want him to feel like I've ever taken that from him. Music is one of the great loves of my life I'm pretty eclectic so I tend to love almost everything. He does like Nightwish but he's into Classical as well as Rock and some of the heavy stuff too. One of his favorites is Roots by Supultra and he only heard that once when he was at a friends house. His friends dad and his friends were over and they were playing it themselves or...trying to. I was floored but in only a surprised way it's fine if he likes it. All the young people out there just embrace music where you find it and love it. There is freedom in song and beat!

She IS the siren. As she will always be, There's never been a so catchy, hypnotising, strong and beautiful voice such as hers.

@lizzy Q Nightwish didn't even intend to be metal, they intended to be acoustic. Which is exactly what they'd be had they not hired Tarja.


Surely that classifies her as a METAL singer? Also; what the fuck do NW need a metal singer for when they have Marco? .........just sayin......

@Schwen omg thank you, Floor sounds soop similar to other rock, pop and contemporary singers, she has to manufacture flair in her voice by screeching and yelling. She doesn't have that naturally magical timbre to her voice that Tarja has at all times. Floors a good singer but line her up with a dozen other female rock singers and she sounds not too special, maybe even *overrated*

Tarja is unique and alluring and Tuomas wrote his best stuff when she was there. That is why they became what they are today, otherwise, they would be another third rate metal act out there or acoustic band playing once a month. You cannot beat Tarja vocals with Tuomas songs. They could not be beaten, together.
