beats good, guitars epic but that voice gets me every time im starting to jam out to her music. its the opera tone of it, for me it doesn't fit. and yes im new to her and on the lookout for good rock/metal songs.

@criticdudewthtude Look for more Nightwish songs - or even songs by Epica. They tend to be more cohesive with the vocals and music. If you're so staunch on no-opera, listen to Nightwish songs from "Dark Passion Play" (2007) and "Imaginaerum" (2011). Their newest album. just released in Europe last Friday (set to be released in the UK and rest of the world Monday and Tuesday, respectively), "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" has some operatic vocals, but mostly non-operatic vocals.

@AmyandKellyRock opera isn't bad just not for me, also checking out some of your suggestions and not bad so far. side note i do like how the operatic vocal is used to enhance the song but isn't the main vocal in EPICA - Victims of Contingency

Omg, I love that song! Yeah, the female vocalist (Simone Simons) can actually utilise operatic technique and contemporary technique - it just depends on the track. Like "Unchain Utopia" is almost entirely operatic, but "Never Enough" utilises more contemporary vocals. Also, even though they disbanded a long time ago (in 2009), try After Forever - their female vocalist (Floor Jansen) could do the same thing. Now, Ms. Jansen fronts her own band (since 2010), called ReVamp and has added screaming and growling to her vocal repertoire (ReVamp may be more to your tastes than After Forever). 

Now you know what it's like to hear an operatic soprano singing heavy metal.
