Dark lyrics , yet it reminds me of Montana .

Not quite dark. It's more like sad: 'sweet & sour', like reminiscing the childhood woods - you can go there now, but something of the magic is gone - that could be the witches etc, mentioned. I also imagined witches and trolls, indians etc. into woods as a kid, and some woods were scary, dangerous, some were friendly :) . Tuomas writes a lot of the childhood memeries.

I remember the first time i heard this song several years ago, it was the instrumental version, but i was enraptured and fell in love instantly! Had to listen to it several times again. No song had ever hooked me like that before or since. I didnt even know there was a version with lyrics till last year, and now that i know them i feel even more in love with it then i did originally. I used to want the instrumental to be played at my wedding, lol. Anyways thanks for this video, its wonderful 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Is there a deeper meaning in the sentence "the first snow fell twice"? I mean, it is impossible that the FIRST snow fell twice, the second incident cannot be the first. Therefore, snow must denote something deeper, mustn't it? The time when we experienced it in our childhood and the moment we remember while watching the landscape? Maybe the endless cycle of birth and death? Another verse seems to indicate that ("grave of my cradle [could indicate childhood memories] place of my grave").

I love how Nightwish touches on topics like childhood romanticism and the wistfulness that is instilled by nature's beauty.

Edit: Another verse makes me wonder about meaning too [quoting from my fragmentary memory here]: At dawn the night tells its story. What does that mean? Is dawn the ever progressing edge of our memories, the moment when we interpret and romanticise the past that lies in the darkness of memory? We only understand/ feel the beauty in hindsight maybe...

- Yeah, I think it's related when you wake up and remember your dream. Or sometimes when waking up you realize the answer to something you pondered last evening. Our head sometimes solves the puzzle when we sleep.

I think it's about remembering, the snow may have only fallen once but in your memory it will fall again, making twice

What comes to the twice falling snow, my hunch is the other falling is like feeling blue. Maybe first sad ending, like the end of your first teenage romance. Not sure, just guessing.

In Finnish the snow falling over something is a metaphor of something sad - snow is cold, and covers tracks, when it snows heavily.

I love the original form nightwish but this Version with lyrics is gorgeus! I love it!

I once read quite sceptic comment of Erämään viimeinen that you can hear from the song that someone is sleeping with someone. Aaand... well, don't get me wrong, I like Jonsu and her band Indica, but her voice just is not good enough for Nightwish and to this song. Back in the days there was a rumour that Tuomas and Jonsu had something going on.

Tuomas is a kind of guy who asks people he knows to join his projects. Marko Hietala was the first "stranger" in nightwish. He knew everyone else from school or previous bands etc. In times and life of everyone performing on that album is a friend or Johanna Kurkela. Either he just knows Jonsu or there was something more but that's how people end up in his musical projects.

Finish sounds like elvish,  I'm afraid galadriel  came out from monitor in my room =))

Finnish was one of Tolkien's models, when he finished his Elven languages. Especially Quenya, which would be heard from Galadriel, at times.

But what we hear more in the films is called Sindarin, another Elven language based more on Welsh.

I wish there was an English vocal version.

There is an instrumental version called by an English title on the album - "Last of the Wild". Slightly different music but essentially the same song. I don't think there is a version with English vocals.

What is that - 'our vowels'? Who's that 'we' of the 'our'?
In Finnish you can combine almost all almost, doubling means the vowel is long - like in German, or English meet, food (though the value is nt the same as in Finnish we would spell those 'miit, fuud').
Just like consonants doubled mean they are long. Like in Swedish, if that's your language.

@Pvt Parts Well, every year there are periods when there are big fires everywhere because of the dry climate. Our president did not make a big deal about it until everyone started sharing #prayForAmazonia. There´s also a political issue going on where around 35% of brazilians are not happy with our current president, but we have to be careful, because we dont really know if these big fires are considered "normal" on these periods or its these people who are unhappy with the actual government making a big deal out of it to attack the goverment. Either way, when these big fires happen our president has to act quickly and mitigate whats going on, and not do what he did, where he basically ignored it. Thats my view

Liz, while that may be true in same cases. I dare say no one has ever heard pure danish and gone: "Yeah that sounds like a splendid language."

Hell the language is described by foreigners as people choking whilst talking. Well you try to pronounce words and sentences were it takes longer to breath than actually say the word in one go.

I am about to release my piano version of this song (the instrumental version anyway). I always loved the version with vocals but I've never actually seen the translated lyrics. Since I've visited Finland twice and seen how amazingly beautiful it is, I can absolutely relate to the lyrics. Very powerful song and definitely brings the emotions.

@Esses negros maravilhosos I teach you a bit: "No niin" means pretty much anything. When the bus arrives, you can say "no niin". If you happen to break something, you can say "no niin". When you make a discovery you say "no niin"... It applies to any situation, just change the tone of your voice according to the mood. Now you can handle any situation in finnish!

"No niin" is a filler word and used in many situations where is pretty obvius what you mean by it.

For example, three most common situations "no niin" is used are: when you're waiting something to happen and you want it to happen already OR Something just happened (finally) OR when somebody agrees with what you said.

Pretty unnecessary word or two word combination and basically mean just "well".

I learned that Finnish and Magyar have the same origin. I am now learning Magyar and find that the pronounciation is quite similar to Finnish! Is that right?(I don't know Finnish)
