Nicks, Stevie - Street Angel Lyrics

I've been walking under rainbows... too long to tell
You keep walking down mean streets...
My street angel
I try to bring you in... out of the cold
But street angels live on the street...
And they always will

Street angels aren't like anyone you know
They do what they want... and they go where they go
They may tell you
That you hold the world in your hands
But they always give it back...
(They always give it back)

[Chorus:]
No amount of crying... changes your mind
No amount of praying... brings you inside
I know that you love me...
And that you always will
You just stand outside and call to me...
My sweet street angel

A Charles Dickens character,
With your top hat and your scarf
When you pull me through the rainbow...
I thought you'd stop
But you didn't... you turned around...
You went back to the children... and your music...
And the people that you love

I can't help but wonder if...
Every once in a while... you remember the girl
When you were a homeless angel...
That drove you wild
Strange and elusive...

[Chorus:]
No amount of crying... changes your mind
No amount of praying... brings you inside
I know that you love me... and that you always will
You just stand outside and call to me...
My sweet street angel

[Solo]

So I ended it all... for the both of us
I fell down the stairs... a broken rag doll
But you never knew... you just thought I went away
With nothing more to hope for...
But you don't hear voices anymore
No... my sweet street angel

What was the big hit on "Street Angel"? Did the album even have a hit on it?

I know its a super late reply, but the lead song for street angel was blue denim. That being said, street angel was the album that was recieved the worst. Horribly underrated.

This album is often considered as her less good but it's still very good

Actually, Street Angel is about just not caring anymore when she was addicted to Klonopin (a tranquilizer used for anxiety and depression). Here's what she says about Street Angel.

Because for eight years before - and it always comes back to this, which I'm sorry about - but it comes back to the [anti-anxiety medication] Klonopin. And that was Street Angel - the little street urchin on Klonopin. And it was a sad record. Writers do not thrive on drugs like Klonopin and Prozac. It takes your soul; it takes your creativity; it takes your love of running home at night and getting out a typewriter or getting out your paper and pencil and writing something that you love. It takes that away. You don't care anymore. So Street Angel was all about just not caring. And that's horrible to me. One of the few things that I've never not done in my life is not care. And I didn't care for a long time. The lows for me were probably the last years of cocaine in the 1980s, and the last four years of the Klonopin.

Stevie's raw honesty has probably saved more life's than she could ever know. She is a woman of strength and bravery to tell her story. She will always be the poet of my heart.

Street Angel is one of my favourite songs from the Street Angel album along with Love Is Like A River and Rose Garden. This song is about homeless children living on the streets, it gives a very powerful message. It doesn't work listening to this song on an iPod you need to listen to it on the CD on a good quality Hi Fi to feel it's full effect.

This is my mom's song to me
