Nickel Creek - Helena Lyrics
Helena, don't walk away
Before you give me back my heart
If it were mine, it would be yours to take
I'm sorry I let down my guard, oh Helena
I should have seen
While I was playing for fun
You were playing for keeps
You win, I lose, is there some way
You can leave me in your debt
So my girl and I can live to die another day
On that day I won't forget you, Helena
You look so sweet waiting for me
Don't waste your pretty sympathy
She's gonna be just fine
And Helena, so will we
So will everything in time, mmm
Helena, don't walk away
Did you hear one word I said
Oh well, I never really liked her anyway
And I forgot her, I'll forget you, Helena
You're not that sweet
And neither is she
Go ahead and tell her anything you want,
'cause, Helena, guys like me never sleep alone at night
I don't need your sympathy
'cause I'll always be just fine
Yeah, I'll always be just fine
Yeah, I'll always be just fine
La la la, la la la, la la la

Nickel Creek Helena Comments
i love this song, but Dude, you look high AF! I cant sing that good high, though, so Props
This is 2019 not 1920. You f****** a****** how dare you say something like we don't have to hide in the shadows anymore we outnumber the straights anyway and one day I hope I meet you cuz I'd love to Cave your f**** skull in. Get your Sky ferry to stay up between me and you eating good and pretty
they've got, to my knowledge, four original albums and best of that has a few new numbers. There is seriously not a single bad song on any of them. That's just so extremely rare for every single song to be, at a minimum, 'good'.
Gods and hells, I love these guys. Their music just touches me to the bone.
It's so great how they've become more than they were in their time away from NC. Even though it's live there is so much more depth there
I remember helena from mcr
I love this kinda stuff...
this is like the fifth song with my name why tho
My fav nickel creek song
I like some of their earlier stuff when it sounded like real music, to me. This song is annoying to me. Love the mandolin, I play one. But the way it was banging on it constantly was very aggravating. This is my opinion. In my book Chris can really play a mandolin in bluegrass style but as for the rest , I don't like it. Again, my opinion.
yea his stuff is out there. I can't handle to much of it. but he still is the best mandolin player in the word. he deserves the MacArthur genius grant he got
I wish they would release the instrumental version. It sounds awesome.
This band can generate quite the 'wall of sound' from 3 people. Try looking away from the screen & just listening...they really know their craft!
I thought the trio looked a little more 'contemporary'. Back together?!
This is the first I'd heard! Wonderful!!!!
acoustic version. hahaha When do they not play acoustic?
+voilaviolamh Does seem weird to see "acoustic version" on a Nickel Creek song but Helena is one of the few where there are actually some electric guitars in the background on the recording. So, technically they're correct but it is a little unnecessary you're right.
Extremely mature song. Love it
So when did Nickel Creek get back together
Someone knows the name of the musical instrument on the middle? (the one that the singer is playing)
I believe that's a mandolin. :)
Hmmm, it looks like it! Thank you!
That is a 1923 Gibson Lloyd Loar Mandolin. It cost Chris most likely somewhere around 200,000 dollars.
My name is Helena
Isn't it Helena Merrick?
haha sean and chris' faces at 0:43
Sharooz, you're an idiot. Chris Thiele is a spectacular musician with a very good voice. It's obvious you haven't a clue about what a great group Nickel Creek is.
The way this song builds is absolutely beautiful.
This song is so amazing and so haunting
I wanted to see them SO bad this week when they came to Savannah, but even after several bouts of begging for time off, I had to work. :/
The snippet of the original song Chris plays at the beginning sounds so familiar. Did it wind up on an album or side project or something? Does it have a name?
Talent is being able to pull that off without having played the song in 7 years. I think I'll always be in awe of these guys!
holy crap that was awesome
OH...Hell, I've loved this song from the first time I heard it...Saw you'all in Tahoe.....AMAZING!!!! AND, don't know if you're back together ...of just for a bit, but, couldn't be happier. Thanks so much for ALL of your beautiful music.
Patrick
Robert Pattinson + Jude Law + a mandolin = Chris Thile...anybody?
dont know about the Taylor Lautner part but im gonna have to agree with you on Jude Law :D
@Berra Saral to each their own :O)
@Berra Saral I had the wrong tween heart-throb....I fixed it
lol, most deff!
Rob Pattinson + Ed Sheeran = Chris Thile.
Oh WOW I always wanted to know how that song came about. It's so dang dark!
Awesome. So happy to see Nickel Creek reunited and so, so pleased for Sara and Sean, who are just the nicest most interesting people! You guys rock.
The middle guy really should stick to playing and not singing
Melts my heart. Perfect timing guys, you always know what's right
uhhhh that was so good! Welcome Back...we missed you.
One of my favorite Nickel Creek songs and perhaps one of the better songs written in the past 15 years. It was performed excellently. Wish there would have been a bass, as I believe the defining moment of the song is coming out of the instrumental in which the bass throws down an epic Db.
Yes, and the drums at the end on the song on the cd were great too.
My favorite song!!!! It's really interesting to hear how it all came together. Also, love the new album!! <3
i love this! i would be so stoked if ya checked out my covers on my channel!
so much brown and tight jeans but good music
Nerding out over this right now.
This is amazing! For an impromptu performance, it was spectacular! Thank you.
aah my favorite song
My earphones don't do this justice
One of my favorites!! Can't wait to see you guys at the Tabernacle in a couple weeks!
Nice! How can she play the violin in that jacket?
Very well
It's actually a fiddle
@Idiotic Tendency That's really picking nits - there's very little difference.
Currently, I don't know of a better violinist. I don't know of a better guitarist. I don't know of a better mandolinist. The fact that they are all in the same band is a music listener's heaven. It doesn't hurt that they all harmonize well together. If you haven't picked up a Nickel Creek album yet, you've been cheating yourself.
so cool
THILE IS THE MAN!
Great album!! Such talent, 3 people meant to play together! So glad to see you back in biz
Awesome! I'm am a huge fan, and very glad to see you guys are going on tour once more!
Was that dissonant thing in the end on purpose? Loved it either way. Hi Dea!!!! Zup?
yep! they play with dissonance and tensions a lot in their work.
Saw you (years ago) at Wolf Trap in a show that featured Ralph Stanley, who sang "Oh, Death" a cappella with a single spotlight on him in the middle of the stage. At that show, you did a really great, tight set from the right hand side of the stage. Would LOVE to get to one of your shows this go around, but most are quite a trip from Frederick, MD. Please have your management/agent check out the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick to see if that's a good opportunity for you.
Wow this is really fantastic music! Really didn't expect much but this is great!
I'm not familiar with Nickel Creek...are they good? Would any of you recommend some of their songs to me?
Most of them (my favorite is "Lighthouse's Tale"), and then Punch Brothers (Thile's other band).
ah okay thank you!
Just buy the new Dotted Line CD, it is GREAT!
One of my favorite trios ever. Thier voices blend so well and Chris Thile is an astounding musician. His musicality blows my mind.
so glad they're back!
For anyone interested, we have a new album out now and an upcoming spring/summer tour, details at http://nickelcreek.com. Thanks everyone!
This song is amazing, I felt so warm and comforting. Since I started to play the guitar back in 2004, I don't just listen to music but I feel it. I felt warmth and comforting from this song.
Love it! See you in Cary, NC!
Been a fan of ya'll since you came to NYC for the 9-11 show at The Garden.
I just saw you in Boone, NC on 7/14! Phenomenal show! Blown away!
i am, how do you say, mega interested. so excited for more music from you three!!!
Jimmy (and company), thanks for sharing this!!
I had no idea they were back together!!!
that was GREAT!
I never thought I'd see them back together... *sniff*... these darned onions....
I never thought I'd see them back together... Makes me so happy!
Love them! I have been listening to this band since I was a pre-teen. So glad they got back together! Their music takes me back to all the camping trips my family would go on. My dad always played Nickle Creek on the car trip to where ever we where going. I play it around the house for my young daughter now. :-)
So freaking amazing. I love how they achieve such a full sound with only 3 acoustic instruments.
I absolutely love these 'Tonight Show Music Room' acoustic performances! It would be great if you did more 'behind the scenes' and 'during the break' stuff as well.
You really wouldn't know from this that he is one of the best mandolin players in the world. They should get him to do a classical performance.
So amazing.
Amazing. I became a fan right after they broke up and never thought I'd see them play together. And as great as all of Chris's other projects have been, nothing's been as intense as the music these three make together. Just perfect.
Is it called Dotted Line?
Yes, that's the one!
I was so fortunate to meet them in 1996 when they were still home school high school students touring the country playing at high schools. Chris Thile is the reason I recently bought a mandolin and I'm loving the process of learning to play!
@Jeremiah Bjorgaard
Chris THILE!
@Brian Wene oops?>
I love these backstage performances, keep em comin.
That's great! We'll try to do more of 'em!
@The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Narrator: And they never did.
My siblings and I have seen them a few times in concert and were "getting prepared" for the reunion tour and happened upon this song. It was always one of our favorites and we were just saying how we wished they'd play it live sometime. WISH CAME TRUE!! Nickel Creek is the BEST!
0/11 not nickleback
Nickleback, huh? Never heard of them.
@Jenn DeMent good person
@Jenn DeMent
Lucky.
Omg my favorite band is back!
My name is Helena!
Sorry that jerk broke your heart! lol
Chris thiel is the greatest mandolin player in the world! if anyone like blue grass ever a little bit, go check out his stuff!
@DANIEL KERRIGAN I don't recall seeing Sierra Hull's name on the McArthur Grant list...
The guitarist looks like Sean Astin from his hobbit days
Check out 'In the house of Tom Bombadil' by Nickel Creek!
Poushal I totally didn't remember that they had this one, though it's disappointing they didn't write lyrics for it when there's sooooo much singing and description in that part of TFoTR
Hmmmm I'm here
Love this song too
I'm glad Nickel Creek got back together. I remember seeing them at the NorVa twice.
Waiting for you guys to come on the show tonight. I CAN NOT TELL YOU how stoked I am that there is a new Nickel Creek album!!!
Outstanding version of one of my all time favorite songs.
Never heard of them, but I can dig it!!
The violin is always such an awesome bonus!!!
Awesome!
Very nice mandolin!
WAIT I LOVE NICKEL CREEK
YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE. Have you ever heard of Trampled By Turtles?
@Rosebite12 Trampled By Turtles is awesome!
@Michael Natrin I'm from Duluth and I got to see them play their 10th anniversary show. The mayor gave them the key to the city and declared April 11th 'Trampled By Turtles Day'
