Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Nature Boy Lyrics
I was just a boy when I sat down
To watch the news on TV
I saw some ordinary slaughter
I saw some routine atrocity
My father said, don't look away
He said, that in the end it is beauty
That is going to save the world, now
And she moves among the sparrows
And she floats upon the breeze
She moves among the flowers
She moves something deep inside of me
I was walking around the flower show like a leper
Coming down with some kind of nervous hysteria
Up against the pink and purple wisteria
You said, hey, nature boy, are you looking at me
With some unrighteous intention?
My knees went weak,
I couldn't speak, I was having thoughts
That were not in my best interests to mention
And she moves among the flowers
And she floats upon the smoke
She moves among the shadows
She moves me with just one little look
You took me back to your place
And dressed me up in a deep sea diver's suit
You played the patriot, you raised the flag
And I stood at full salute
Later on we smoked a pipe that struck me dumb
And made it impossible to speak
As you closed in, in slow motion,
Quoting Sappho, in the original Greek
She moves among the shadows
She floats upon the breeze
She moves among the candles
And we moved through the days
and through the years
Years passed by, we were walking by the sea
Half delirious
You smiled at me and said, Babe
I think this thing is getting kind of serious
You pointed at something and said
Have you ever seen such a beautiful thing?
It was then that I broke down
It was then that you lifted me up again
She moves among the sparrows
And she walks across the sea
She moves among the flowers
And she moves something deep inside of me
She moves among the sparrows
And she floats upon the breeze
She moves among the flowers
And she moves right up close to me

I love Nick and the Bad seeds not least because of their hilarious sense of humour. The mischievous glances that Thomas Wydler (the drummer) throws at the camera :-D
Downvoted because it omitted the last beautiful lyric

Am I the first to say this is one great song????
Wow, what a beautiful song. I've just heard it for the first time on Radio Rijeka (Croatia).
I was just a boy when I sat down to watch some shit on TV; I was maybe 14, saw this video, this charming man in tight brown suit dancing among yellow flowers blosoming, and it changed my point of view, my perspective, way, life... Everything. One of those moments that last for life, but only for few minutes, which makes life turning in a single beautiful moment. Thank you for that.
Amazinh nic
The way he bounced back from the atrocity that was Nocturama was astonishing
Weird seeing nick between his iconic hair styles. Easy to forget this happened for a while till he got his hair now. Either way, nick has always had a striking and intriguing presence on stage, in photos, in videos and everything else. No other guy like him. Such a wonderful band.
Sigh, my dad thinks he can’t sing
This song + magic mushrooms + a walk through the forest or by the ocean would be a 10/10 experience
What hasn't been said, I love my dad and mom. She made me weak. Sometimes everything is 1-1 , other times it's 2×3, but it all works out in the end.
I play it loud - i dance around the kitchen by myself - it inspires me - is that not what music is for - thank you Nick Cave
one of his best, without a doubt
he looks like Saul Goodman here lol
so cool
everything this aussie does is awesum
Stumbling across this song at the end of a rabbit hole = winning
It is not just a female figure who closes in, in slow motion, quoting Sappho, in the original Greek – it is all about Sappho's poetry (see my article ‘Aeneas nu. De oudheid in de popmuziek’, Lampas 46.4, 2013, 382-399)...
It is actually, I think, about an encounter with Aphrodite herself ('In the end it is beauty that is going to save the world, now')...
@Michel Buijs zzzz who cares what you think?
Anyone else scrolling through the comments section can agree on one thing...
Goddamnit, Sonni
I was saying things that were not in my best interest to mention.
I bought my degree in Greek archaic art from Melbourne University....nice.

Who else could wear a brown suit and look uber cool.
I think everyone looks cool in brown suit
Is that Warren on the es335 I see there?
Jamie Holmes Yes, he is!
It's weird to see him not play a children's guitar. Lol
He looks like Jacksfilms
My Lord..i love this song so much!!
Anche io la trovo molto bella !
Sandro Petrozzi grazie!!🌸
perfect
To me, this song is just brilliant.
I don’t know so much about Nick Cave yet, but to be able to make such a song he must be a composers and musical savant.
Also like:
Nature boy, Stagger Lee, Henry Lee, Fifteen Feet Of Pure White pure Snow, Do you love me, Jubilee Street, The weeping song and Where the wild Roses Grow.
My Favorite is "Breathless" So Good man! Best Song of Nick ... Must Listen!
"He must be some kind of composer"
If you haven't already done so, you should listen to the soundtrack to "The Proposition" and "the assassination of Jesse james..."
Nick cave worked on both of those. They are my two personal favorites of his.
You also may like Cockney Rebel by Steve Harley.
Try red right hand
the last verse is left off of the video tho :(
per Francesco
fantasticooooo!!! hahahahahah
Nick went out of the cave to make a great melody song ...
Wisteria 😍
...pink and purple Wisteria at that. pops only wisty ref???
beautiful
i love the 'green eyes, black hair reference to the boatmans call
Which is, if I'm not mistaken, a reference to PJ Harvey when they were together?
His wife has green eyes, black hair, and likes to garden. It could be about her I think.

Noo he is beautiful like a boy... ;-))

"Nature Boy"
Great..great love song ...but tongue in cheek...seems coquettishly casual but you must read deeper!!
FrostedFen thats why its fucking brilliant
great lyrics ; )
Kick-ass song! But, sad today ... RIP Arthur Cave.
@Stacy Lomman yw ! I cried when I saw them on the sofa towards the end. so sad.
A composer's and musical savant? Savant? Do you know the meaning of the word? Exactly what, about this song indicates he is a savant? I'm shaking my head at your description. It's just a song. It's okay but definitely not genius level, oror the whole world would be bowing before him. What, not even a Grammy nomination for his genius?
@Sonni Quick who are you even addressing this to? What description? I merely said this was a kick-ass song. You're clearly a weird, bitter individual as I see you posting negative comments all over the place, for no reason. And btw, Milli Vanilli won a Grammy so it's obviously not a recognition of genius! Go troll somewhere else, loser.
+Stacy Lomman my comment wasn't supposed to post under you, so my apologies for that. But - I suppose the definition for tell is anyone who doesn't agree with everyone? I've been taking crap for a post I made a couple years ago. As someone who teaches music I think I have a pretty good idea of what is simply ok and what is kick ass. But apparently there are a lot of infantile people who call people stupid names for disagreeing. It's okay for people to have different tastes in music and I'm sure there is music you don't like as well. But I have given back to each one who has left a stupid remark to me. I've gone back and listening to a lot of his stuff just to try and figure out his appeal. To me there is nothing that puts him is the wow category. I'd never pay to see him and I'd never but his music. Apparently saying this is a gave offense. And when I read a comment like "He's turning in Neil Diamond" it's not only an insult to Neil Diamond, it's laughable. Like him all you want. Moon over him. Think he's a music god if you want. I've asked many people if they've ever heard of him because of the worship everyone here has. I haven't found one person who has heard of him or his music so his niche is small. Like him if you want, but if people are going to insult me because I don't, I'm going to answer back. It gives me a good laugh.
Were you one of those 2 people who taught music AND attended Trump University? now that's what I call a savant.
Ja, ja. Das icht gut.
missing the last verses....... :(
Not the whole song.... last verse was cut out. :-/
Strangely cool as usual...
As pants a video as it is, still a top 3 NCAB track!
Great Artist,perfect song.
Agreed, Foxtrot Hotel. Anyone who has been a fan of Nick Cave for more than a minute knows that he loves to mix it up. While he often leans toward the morose, there is no one staid "Nick Cave sound". (I'm talkin' bout "Witness Song" or "Hard on for Love"; pretty catchy, Nick.)
"its beauty that's going to save the world now!"
This line may save the world and humanity
love love this song!
love love this song!
so warren actually has a face! where the f**k are mick, thomas, martyn and blixa?
Hahaha Warren Ellis looks so cool with sun glasses and his guitar! lml
Love it so:)
Reminds me of The National.
100% agree. And I was a Neubauten fan before I got into Nick Cave.
Ekkert nema dásemd.........................
I would love to hear him do a version of the proper Nature Boy. It's about him and boys like him. Perfect.
This song to me at this moment in time...is what Jim H. would of sang to me had we got married...its a little like "i wanna be Kate" by Ben Folds Five (for me not in verse)....yup thats right I am Kate.......and I like to be among the flowers....this song is alot like the 80's type tunes.... but you still have Nicks voice and lyrics.....for me...I enjoy the catchy tune...its a little like a cheesy love song....
It's funny that these are the members of Grinderman it's like a premonition!
Check out birthday party
I wish it was a more literal video like a 70s Flick Colby dance routine...
Check out birthday party
Why can't we see some of the videos on this channel in the U.S.? :(
I cannot wait to see them live!!!
All the fucking band is great! And I love this song.
Soooo glad this wasn't a Nat King Cole cover
It's a love letter to the mother of his children, Susie Bick, the model.
I love Nick Cave, he writes songs about girls with green eyes and black hair. :)
@NoDataNoFuture
That was Nick back in 2004. If you think he's grown out of it, check out his latest project, Grinderman. Pure energy.
Nick Cave is THE most awesome fellow. :)
@lottoguy54 "Nature boy" is a song blah blah, what you say, all correct, but this is not a version of that song.
Nature Boy" is a song by eden ahbez, published in 1947. The song tells a fantasy of a "strange enchanted boy... who wandered very far" only to learn that "the greatest thing... was just to love and be loved in return". Nat King Cole's 1948 recording of the song was a major hit and "Nature Boy" has since become a pop and jazz standard, with dozens of major artists interpreting the song. This is a great version!!!!!!
@LulaAndLuna
Ah I know, he just totally looks like a younger Howard Marks in this video.
Foxtrot Hotel I was thinking Neil Diamond.
@RootsinBrooklyn
ALL OF TIME
What a tops song! Good work to everyone, pats on backs all around :)
just 46000 views...shows how stupid the world is...
@trollfinger Jim Sclavunos :0)
what a song!!!! is perfect!!!!
Don't like this ..? Then suck my socks.
I could listen to this fella reading the phone book.
Even a bible
Brilliant!
fuckin' selena gomez..
Outstanding band had a chat with him in glasgow nice guy.
Well, duh! I like him! And the other 3 guys too!
But what is this "Thicker lookin hair" crap that I hear first?
Booo at single person who disliked, cmon lol.
A beautiful Brilliant song.
seems Nick's been possessed by Neil Diamond? almost seems deliberate tho', like an inside joke or something.
This is fucking awful. Hackneyed chord progressions and shit poetry. It's all so easy.
No dislikes. Because it's un-dislikeable. :)
This is my favourite song of all time.
I know some Nick Cave fans who dislike this song, I don't understand their opinion of "it doesn't sound like Nick Cave" But it does, because it is
I just came to my pc to search the word 'disimagined' as I suspected it's a Nick Cave made up word (as I'm reading The Death of Bunny Monroe). But I make up words too so it's ok. Top tune this.
It looks like Howard Marks playing drums.
I love Nick Cave; This has a very David Bowie/Beatles feel to it. I love it, and his vocals here.
