Newsom, Joanna - Jackrabbits Lyrics

I was tired of being drunk
My face cracked like a joke
So I swung through here like a brace of jackrabbits
With their necks all broke
I stumbled at the door with my boot
And I knocked against the jam
And I scrabbled at your chest like a mute
With my fists of ham

Trying to tell you that I am
Telling you I can
I can love you again
Love you again

I'm squinting towards the east
My faith makes me a dope
But you can take my hand in the darkness, darling
Like a length of rope
I shaped up overnight, you know
The day after she died
When I saw my heart, and I tell you, darling
It was open wide

What with telling you I am
Telling I can
I can love you again
Love you again

It can have no bounds, you know
It can have no end
But you can take my hand in the darkness, darling
When you need a friend
And it can change in shape and form
But never change in size
Well, the water, it runs deep, my darling
Where it don't run wide
The feather of a hawk was bound
Bound around my neck
A poultice made of fig, the eager little vultures pecked
And the verse I read in jest
And Matthew spoke to me
Said, "There's a flame that moves like a low-down pest
And says, 'You will be free'"

Only tell me that I can
Tell me that I can
I can love you again
Love you again

Love you again, love you again
Love you again, love you again
Love you again, love you again
Love you again, love you again
Love you again, love you

As time passes, I feel more and more capable of appreciating Joanna's music. How rich her imagination is, how perceptive she is of the silent beauty of this world.

This music and talent is a rare butterfly in this garden called life...so many colors...textures within the melody..unforgiving yet yearning to be known...she is a wonder.😍

  4. Myles Green

This song makes me cry and I'm not even sure why I'm sad.

  7. Paul Cassidy

Man this song is an absolute killer. Like all of Joanna's best in the way it opens you up and teaches you something small and new.

    love it.

  15. Jon Jcc

This is wonderful to me, its like a lingering cherry rose aroma rising after a downpour outside my bedroom window.

  16. steve son

this is the sound of my heart cracking

  17. Therine Brokenbones

I`d have loved it more if she would have kept it soft until the end. The last part kinda ruined it for me. But I still think is a very beautiful song

    Elan Frenkel

I also think she over does some of her songs ( I am a big fan of her work). I actually don't mind the end on this one that much. But I find the end of Have One on Me corny, for example.

    The Yellow King

Last part is the best, hauntingly beautiful. It all leads to that part :)

  18. sorcervs

isnt it great to shout along with these lyrics

  19. Egor Ananev

stunning up until 4:26 and then some

  20. tahja215

I agree.. this is perfect. Almost impossible to listen to just once. Nardwuar's radio show introduced me to this beautiful soul.

  21. LewisBogue

Fucking love to hear passion for music like that.

  22. tommy64901

I love you in the best way. You'll never know. Its unapologetic, its desecration, I love you, I can't be honest with the style of my words, I wish I knew how to say what I thought of you, the world is so small your a bettle that eats ants and whasps and thats a simple way to say i don't care i love you anyway so... continue

  23. dogboydog

Such a gorgeous song. I love the chord change as she repeats "love you again." It sounds out of place, but also perfect. Like a huge exclamation point, propelling the phrase into this almost frightening mix of desperation and..absurdity? just chilling and excellent

  24. Tallbike

    Who did the drawing?
this song is great as well

  25. arcknet

    sensacional

  26. Marcela Aguilar

Is it possible to start crying within the first two seconds of a song? I can't even begin to explain how magical her music is to me.

  27. Pieter Van Oosten

Sweet sweet Joanna, please come to Holland?

  28. allyosheaheretostay
