Newsies Original Broadway Cast - That's Rich Lyrics
[Larkin:]
I'm doing alright for myself folks
I'm healthy, I'm wealthy, I'm wise
My investments and such
Have all gone up so much
Starts to rise
I've got men, I've got money
And yet
The thing I want most
I can't get
Uh, that feels good
I like that
I live in a mansion on Long Island sound
But you telling me you don't want me around
Now, honey, that's rich
Some guys give me vermans
Chincilla and mink
And some give me diamonds
As big as a sink
But you wouldn't give me so
Much as a wink
Now, baby, that's rich
I get brandy from Andy
And candy from Scott
Oh, and Frank and Eduardo
Chipped in for a yacht
I get stares from the fellas
And prayers from the pope
But I ran out my luck
Getting stuck on some dope!
Hey baby, I was just talking about you
Now, listen, sport
This life's too short
To waste it on you
It may be rough
But soon enough
I'll learn to make do
With the mansion, the oil well
The diamonds, the yacht
With Andy, Eduardo
The pontiff and Scott
And Frank. Oooooo!
And my bank!
So spill no tears for me
'Cause there's one thing you ain't
That I'll always be
And honey
Yeah, that's right
That's rich! That's rich!
That's rich! That's rich!

Ok. I'll see myself out.
a very good mainstream belting song if you’re a mezzo alto! also medda can get it on many levels
The "ladies and gentlemen" gave me Chicago flashbacks
He's gay
"I was once the lady friend of Stanford White..."
dunno why, but this Ragtime song goes through my head for some parts of this song
someone tell me I'm not alone
I saw this play and it was absolutely shit
Can we just agree that Medda is one of the greatest characters ever and deserves more credit? Also this whole song is basically, FIGHT ME HATERS.
She definitely owns AirPods
I remember first time listening to this soundtrack I hated it I only liked one song from it few months later I come back and listen to it (because I have to for the school musical this year) and I’m in love with it now
I wish I was rich

I am auditioning for Newsies and I would like to be Medda Larkin. Is is smart to audition with this song so I can show the director how good of a character i will be
How did it go? Did you end up doing this song? In my experience I've always heard and felt that you should never use a song from the show for which you are auditioning but it depends on the casting directors. I always find it best to use a song from a different show but that has a similar sound or tone. I hope everything worked out for you!
@Cassidy Dingman yeah, my drama director never wants to hear anyone who auditions sing a song from the actual musical they're auditioning for
@Katherine Howes That's odd, my directors always want to hear songs from the musical we're auditioning for lol
Kitkatqueenly13 yea it’s a great part to do for this show and any audition
Did you get the part?
This reminds me of "when you're good to mama" from chicago lol its good though
Medda Larken is just a New York Mama
I knew I wasn't the only one
same!!!!!
I'm doing alright for myself,

Okay there’s a song that has this exact beat, is this from sussical?
Drew L well seeing as it's a simple 4/4, there's lots of songs with it. Do you mean rhythm?
Drew L yeah you’re right it does sound really close to mayzies song I think. It was either mayzie or sour kangaroo
is this the sour kangaroo?
Nope, but they do sound similar
WHO IS SHEEEEEEE
So the oil itself was so close to the surface that it could be reached by pulling up a weed. And they built a house on top of it.
On a scale of bad ideas from 1 to 10, I'd say that's an 8. A 9 for stupidity, because you'd think contractors would actually do a decent enough inspection of the sub-surface earth to realize that there's a bunch of freaking OIL down there. I know it's the 1800s in the musical, but just sticking a rod in the ground in a grid pattern across the property would probably find the oil.
Baby that's rich! Metaphor! Ha! 1800s? More like 1950-60s baby. Sorry
Some Crazed Nerd Actually in the musical they talk about post World War II and such. It’s just based off the strike and it’s more like the early 1940s so yeah...
Ana Giselle Lopez Uhh, no? Pulitzer? He died in 1911???
Oh my god people the musical literally takes place in 1899!
I first watched this musical in my theatre class and now I'm obsessed 😂
I am doing alright alright for jyslef folks DO WE CARE JKJKJKJK
Newsies is my favorite musical!
When she sings "that's rich" it reminds me of when Corny Collins sings "that's me" in Hairspray. The only thing better than hairsprayyyyy thaaaats meeeeeee
Astro Wiz you post on a lot of these
I heard 'Ladies and Gentlemen' and thought of Hamilton goddammit
Rachel C I love Hamilton but some of it is so historically accurate and the fandom makes it worse. Our historical army isn’t strong enough
Im not trying to be rude or pick a fight or anything, Im genuinely confused, why is it that (especially when it comes to theatre) its not okay to compare two shows? I mean..I don't think theres anything wrong with looking at the similarities in songs, lyrics or plots. You shouldn't hate a show simply because its not a different show, but theres nothing wrong with looking at similarities.
yes! i am a hammy fan
@Fandom Music Videos :3 THANK YOU! I thought i was the only one, just because some people take it too far, it doesn't mean we can't look for similarities
I'm doing alright for myself,

Priya Rakkar lol
You are doing a great service to this country
I love this musical
not trolling just trying to understand. what is the point of this song? I get her character being important but this song? not so much.
Estefanía Fariñas She's just performing in her theatre. I'm pretty sure it was just to show her off, give some time to set up her relationship with Jack beforehand, and honestly. Not complaining. This song is amazing.
This takes place when Jack, Davey and Les sneak into Miss Medda's theatre so it's just here for mindless entertainment I guess.
It’s important because it’s a B O P
Not necessarily essential to the PLOT (although the show is being reviewed by the female lead), but it establishes some character stuff. Medda is just a little vampy, and this song could represent an exaggerated picture of what she imagines life might have held for her if she'd had those opportunities. Theatre is an "escape" for many of the characters in Newsies, from hiding out from the cops to painting set pieces of far-off lands (Santa Fe) to imagining oneself as glamorous and wealthy.
Also, by putting in this big flashy vaudeville number, the audience (like the characters) gets a bit of a break from the drudgery and sadness of life on the streets, too. I think it was an important addition for all of those reasons. I'm playing Medda in a summer production of Newsies this year so I've been thinking about these things. :)
"Whatever I touch starts to rise!"
(Is that- Wasthatadickjoke?)
Precisely my thoughts
Cronus Ampora ;)
why would u name urself after the worst homestuck character
lmfao😂i’m playing medda in my theatre’s summer production!
Cronus Ampora OMG she’s pennywise! You’ll float too!
My dad did a show with one of the ladies who played medda
i've never listened to this musical before, but I swear to god I've heard this song before-
the tune is just so familiar what the heck
It kinda gives me a "When you're good to mamma" feel.
Language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Celia Hagey baby it’s cold outside?
Deja Vu?
It kinda sounds like Baby it’s cold outside
So underrated
gallowsCalibrator not true, it's overrated
This lady seems to have a nice voice!
"There's one thing you a'int that I'll always be." Hmm...sounds a lot like the Malfoy family. We all saw how well that ended up for them.
Hey fellow Potter trash
Hello fellow phandom
The fandom is everywhere
*mutters disdainfully* Potter....
This reminds me so much of "my lovey dovey baby"😊
Sounds a bit like all that jazz <3
thank you for saying that!!!!! omg i love u
Hahahaha I'm glad you agree :D
Mischief Managed ya like jazz
so true
Stormfullbustxr 2 Yeah but I definitely like Jazz band jazz better. ;)
I love this so much!
Some parts and bars are really similar to Baby It's Cold Outside. But no matter, it's still brilliant!
Ria Rosman so true!! it's towards the beginning but it's still good!!
r r that's what I was saying
Fir the ones wondering this particular song is just in thw broadway musical
its good song☺️ remind me of songs from clasic musicals though☺️
This song isn't in the movie .... ?
I think it is, actually, but it sounds much different
+JessePajamas Oh yeah, it isn't! I was thinking of the song from the movie, "My Lovey-Dovey Baby." Oops! 😌
For the Broadway version, they added more songs because it's a musical
The Broadway versions of the songs are so much better than the movie versions
But this song isn't even in the movie. Soooooo
These are better quality, but both are really good
Riley Cornwell I agree better quality but both are just as good
Hadleigh Pierce I know
Hadleigh Pierce Yes I agree!
Who wouldnt be I love all the songs
