Newsies Original Broadway Cast - I Never Planned On You / Don't Come A-Knocking Lyrics
[Jack:]
Well, hello again
[Katherine:]
Please go away. I'm working
[Jack:]
A smart girl, eh? Beautiful. Smart. Independent
I got no use for moonlight
Or sappy poetry
Love at first sight's for suckers
At least it used to be
Look, girls are nice, once or twice
Till I find someone new
But I never planned on someone like you
I got no use for moonlight
Or sappy poetry
Love at first sight's for suckers
At least it used to be
[Bowery Beauties:]
(Don't come a-knocking on my door
You aren't welcome here no more
I should have known you
Stunk like yesterday's trash
The night you stole my heart
Plus forty dollars in cash
Turns out my beau is just some bum
Turns out that love ain't blind, its dumb
You never told the truth or
Worked a day in your life
In fact, you're so revoltin'
I feel bad for your wife
I won't be shaving your back
Anymore, no señor
Don't come a-knocking
On my door!
Don't come a-knocking
On my door!
Don't come a-knocking
On my door!)
[Katherine:]
What are you doing?
[Jack:]
Quiet down. There's a show going on
[Katherine:]
You are the most impossible boy...
[Jack:]
Shh...
[Katherine:]
Ever
[Jack:]
No, I never planned on someone like you

Newsies Original Broadway Cast I Never Planned On You / Don't Come A-Knocking Comments
Katherine and Jack emit major Gamora and Peter energy.
He said "smart" like he was from Boston xD "smaht". I'm pretty sure a New Yorker would say it more like... "smawt"
I am 50% of all of the views on this video
I have to replace her with Davey or else I get soooo mad
i wish boys were like this these days
I love this so much (one of the prettiest Menken melodies) and am so disappointed that it isn't a whole song by itself instead of being combined with Don't Come Knocking.
The only good music from Disney. Change my mind
“Love at first sight for suckers at least it used to be”
It still is...
Go get her Jack!
“girls are nice, once or twice (hehe)”
Imagine if Winn sang this to Kara 😂
Honestly, this just made me smile.
I love jack in this song. I wish boys could be like this today.
Jack Kelly is the reason why I have such high expectations in men
I just realized the orchestra in 0:19 sounds just like the beginning of I’m Not That Girl from “Wicked”!
Oh how I wish this song was longer..
As the show started, Jack climbed the ladder into the second-flor box to see if he could find a seat and saw the girl from before, earlier that morning, the one with the ginger curls and beautiful smile, whom he’d tried to flirt with and had brushed him off. She was sitting on a stool leaning over the railing with a notepad and pen in her hands.
He grinned slyly. “Hello again.”
She started to see him, so focused had she been on her writing. “This is a private box.”
He couldn’t tell if she recognized him. Gesturing toward the door, he asked teasingly, “Want I should lock the door?” She didn’t even crack a smile. Moving closer, he gave her an open grin. “Twice in one day. Think it’s fate?”
She turned away dismissively, looking back down at her notepad. She remembered him. “Go away. I’m working.”
“Oh, a workin’ girl, huh?” He leaned closer, trying to get her to look at him. “Doin’ what?”
She obliged with a mocking raise of her eyebrows. “Reviewing the show for the New York Sun.”
At last, some common ground. “Hey, I work for the World!” he said eagerly.
She gave a mocking gasp. “Someone out there someone cares! Go tell them.” She fluttered a hand out aimlessly to the distance then closed herself again, concentrating on her notepad.
Jack shook his head with a teasing smile and glanced casually over the railing. “The view’s better here.”
“Please go. I am not in the habit of speaking to strangers,” the young woman requested, refusing to look up.
Jack raised his eyebrows sideways at her. “Then you’re gonna make a lousy reporter.” Proud of his wit, he shot her a ridiculous grin. “The name’s Jack Kelly.” Just in case she hadn’t heard of him.
She glared at him. “Is that what it says on your rap sheet?”
“Ooo, a smart girl,” he remarked, impressed. “I admire smart girls. Beautiful. Smart.” He smiled. “Independent.”
The girl’s voice rose in frustration. “Do you mind?!”
One of the men in the box below them reached up with his cane and banged it on their box angrily. “Hey, quiet down, would ya?”
Miss Medda noticed and huffed up at Jack from below, pointing a stubby finger at him. “You got in for free; at least pay attention!”
Jack leaned over the railing and hissed an apology, keeping his voice low. “Sorry, Medda.”
Medda shook her head in exasperation but smiled at him, then walked away.
The reporter girl had returned to writing on her notepad. Jack eyed her for a long moment, rejected but unable to take his eyes off her, then was struck by an idea. He settled himself on another stool and took a piece of newsprint and a pencil from his pocket. As he started drawing a portrait of her, he began to sing also, all the while sketching, erasing, and smiling as he tried to capture the perfect picture of the girl it seemed he’d unexpectedly fallen for.
“I got no use for moonlight
Or sappy poetry
Love at first sight’s for suckers
At least it used to be
Look, girls are nice
Once or twice
Till I find someone new
But I never planned on someone like you.
“I got no use for moonlight
Or sappy poetry
Love at first sight’s for suckers
At least it used to be.”
“What are you doing?” the young woman hissed furiously, finally noticing what he was doing and trying to get a look at the drawing.
Jack quickly clamped the paper against his chest and put a finger to his lips, forcefully hushing her. “Quiet down! There’s a show going on!”
Her frustration at him boiled over. “You are the most impossible boy—”
“Shhhhhh,” he hissed fiercely.
“Ever,” she whispered. Deeply infuriated, she went back to writing.
As Jack finished the drawing, he sang one more line.
“No, I never planned on
No one like you.”
He glanced at the reporter girl, saw she was entirely fixated on her writing, and quietly rose, setting the drawing on his stool, then made his way to the door.
She glanced over and noticed he was leaving, which seemed to surprise her. With a smile, he tipped his cap to her then continued down the ladder. She got up and walked over, but the drawing he’d left caught her eye. She stopped and stared at it, her mouth open, then slowly, a smile spread over her face to mirror the one on the paper.
Ok but imagine Dean singing this about Cas as he reminisces about the night they first met in the barn. Also I really love Newsies it’s my favorite musical
I was just in the pit band for this show on trombone. The entire pit had a burning hatred for this song, not because it's bad, but because the entrances were so strange! Every rehearsal we went "oh no not 6A again". I actually loved watching the number happen. I didn't play for about 85% of it. However, when I played, it was rough.
Well, hello again
Please go away
I'm working
A smart girl, eh?
Beautiful, smart, independent
I got no use for moonlight
Or sappy poetry
Love at first sight's for suckers
At least it used to be
Look, girls are nice, once or twice
Till I find someone new
But I never planned on someone like you
Don't come a-knocking on my door (I got no use for moonlight)
You aren't welcome here no more
I should have known you stunk like yesterday's trash (Or sappy poetry)
The night you stole my heart plus forty dollars in cash
Turns out my beau is just some bum (Love at first sight's for suckers)
Turns out that 'love ain't blind' it's dumb
You never told the truth or worked a day in your life (At least it used to be)
In fact, you're so revoltin', I feel bad for your wife (What are you doing?)
I won't be shaving your back anymore, no señor (Quiet down, there's a show going on)
Don't come a-knocking on my door! (You are the most impossible boy) (Shh!)
Don't come a-knocking on my door! (Ever)
Don't come a-knocking on my door! (No, I never planned on someone like you)
O0:48 I love his voice!!!!
Can I have a Jack Kelley? Please?
I don’t even know why but I love the way he says “independent”
Oh my God!!!!!!! He has such a beautiful voice. I wish I had his voice! = )
Don't come a-knocking on my door
You aren't welcome here no more
I should have known you
Stunk like yesterday's trash
The night you stole my heart
Plus forty dollars in cash
Turns out my beau is just some bum
Turns out that love ain't blind, its dumb

In fact, you're so revoltin'
I feel bad for your wife
I won't be shaving your back
Anymore, no señor
Don't come a-knocking
On my door!
Don't come a-knocking
On my door!
Don't come a-knocking
On my door!
“In fact your so revolving, I feel bad for your wife!” Actually my life! 😂😂😂

Jeremy Jordan only played Jack Kelly on Broadway for about 5 months. Corey Cott took over in September 5th 2012, he's not on the cast recording though. Cast recording is only the original Broadway cast, there is no other official soundtrack with the replacements
I think Jeremy Jordan's voice is completely perfect for Jack Kelly honestly. No one really comes close in my opinion. I like Corey's voice, but to me, Jeremy really captures Jack's essence. and his new york accent is the best by far
I loved Jeremy in Joyful Noise
But Jeremy Jordan was in the super original cast. Papermill Playhouse wrote it and started it. Jeremy Jordan was their Jack.
I haven't found anyone who's better so far.
Wow... how could people not want Jeremy to be on any recording 👀
I would listen to him sing anything.....
I seriously thought that the song "What Will Become of the Boy?" would be a part of the stage musical...What happened, fer SHURR?
Where's newsies now
They're in ALL THESE PLACES http://newsiesthemusical.com/ticket
Newsies is coming to the Philippines this July 2017
DANG IT THE ONE TIME IM NOT IN THE PHILIPPINES
I miss newsies on broadway. I would ask my momma to get tickets to see the show.
That's jack Kelly. He's my hero
I saw Newsies tonight in Chicago! It was fantastic
This is Jeremy Jordan. They kept the soundtrack the same when he left. I wish Newsies was still on Broadway. I never got to go.;(
Faith it on Netflix now
Celena Nowak yeah, but it’s not the same as seeing it live. Everything is happening live, while on netflix, you can pause it whenever you want. Plus you don’t get your own playbill :/
Tree Yeah, but Netflix’s version has a replay button. The live version doesn’t.
Believe me, I just saw this musical today live
Now Netflix doesn’t have it *sobs*
@Jocelyn Bogart https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LqtY8FQY5jVbLl1BgcAG6-1_Ee50cMk3/view
Is Jeremy Jordan still on newsies on broadway
Joey slayed! I met him at the stage door, and he was the sweetest. They were all super sweet lol
ugh all too true! I've seen it three times now on its tour but I have to say- Danny boy and Steph were my fave Jack and Katherine so far. (Also don't even get me started on the rest of the cast, they're all so dang talented)
@Rebecca Von Bruchhaeuser I know! I got all of their autographs on the Newsies picture booklet thingy, and i framed it and hung it up.
@thekeeper2500 Thats a smart idea to frame it. I'm still waiting until I get to hang mine lol... I guess i still have to wait to redecorate my room for my broadway theme when I move. I also got a Jack Kelley ornament signed by Dan and I hang it on our christmas tree every year. I just wish I could get my hands on a Nederlander OG playbill...
( psst if anyone is interested there are rumors circulating that the obc, for the most part is coming together to film a livestream of the stage production, so any of you Jeremy and Kara fans keep your eyes peeled for that)
(I also realized I replied to this thread very late and yes, I did realize Jeremy wouldn't be in the tour and the tour doesn't count as 'broadway' however, the tour is cheaper and closer to home than seeing it in NY would have been. Thanks for being nice about correcting me though, I should have been more specific ;))
Is Jeremy Jordan still on broadway?
@Hadleigh Pierce are you mad??? or is that oh that's you
@britney may I'm not mad haha don't worry!
@Hadleigh Pierce
Oh ok. If you want to find out more about the strike we have a website and an instagram http://fansiestrike2015.wix.com/httpfansiestrike ,fansie_strike.

@britney may okay
Glad you're enjoying them!
Hey your profile picture is the logo of the Dutch musical awards. Are you Dutch?
Thank you! I thought it was him but I wasn't sure.
Yes! He opened Newsies on Broadway and Corey Cott took over when he left the show for Smash.
Is this Jeremy Jordan?
Yes and he's a GOD!!!
