Neko Case - Nearly Midnight, Honolulu Lyrics

Hey, little kid that I saw at the bus stop one day
It was nearly midnight in Honolulu (Lulu)
We were waiting for the shuttle to take us to the aeroplane
When your mother said, your mother said
Like I couldn't hear her, she said,
"Get the fuck away from me!
Why don't you ever shut up?
Get the fuck away from me!"
Oh, oh

Well, I just want to say that it happened
'Cause one day when you ask yourself,
"Did it really happen?"
You won't believe it, but yes, it did
And I'm sorry
And I'm sorry
'Cause it happens everyday

They won't believe you
When you tell them
They won't believe you
When you say, "My mother, she did not love me.
My mother, she did not love me"

No (no) [x8]

Some days you feel like a cartoon
And people will rush to make excuses for you
You'll hear yourself complain
But don't you ever shut up please
Kid, have your say
'Cause I still love you
Even if I don't see you again

Why why it remains me so much to my Mother

  4. e.... ....

I'm lucky enough to not be able to relate to this, but it's weird, this song is most likely to get me to tear up reliably. It's astonishingly raw.

  5. C.... W....

This is the song I listen to when I feel I'm the only one whose parent's aren't and never were.

I'm guessing you're the type of person who doesn't understand what 'Fitter, Happier' is doing in the middle of OK Computer as well.

You're reviewing this song through your comment like It's a short film or some sort of artsy fartsy piece, It's a freakin song! and an emotionally good one at that. You posted she has a "Decent voice though" which ( to me at least ) suggests you're not familiar with or just discovering the music of Neko Case. This makes your post even more ignorant considering you wouldn't be aware of what she's capable of as an artist. So, on that note..... why don't you ever shut up? Get the fuck away from me!

Neko commented on NPR that this song came from an actual event in Honolulu, and she had just lost her grandmother and both parents recently and that her parents never rally wanted kids.

Moving. Incredibly moving. Beautiful, Neko. The lyrics about a specific and singular event are so direct, yet they speak to something much larger than two sentences heard at a bus stop. Pure poetry. The a capella arrangement brings an unflinching intimacy that cuts like a knife. Gorgeous voice too.
