Neko Case - Blacklisted Lyrics

Fast train
Where do your passengers wait
What's at the heart of your engine's rage

To what smooth place at the end of the line
With crackling fires and quiet plains
Do the trees bend down
Fold their limbs round you
Welcome home faithful one
We forgive you

Slow down fast train
Slow down fast train
Take me with you

  3. R.... K....

I liked this song before youtube

  4. f.... p....

I hate to diminish the strength of the lyrics, and their subject matter, but the first time I heard this song was on a mixed tape, driving at 3am out in the desert. Every time I hear it, makes me want to grab whatever I can grab in both hands, throw it in the back seat, and just pick a direction, not even call the job, or the landlord. just go.

  5. T.... P....

    Its just so beautiful!

  6. M.... H....

This song reminds me of Ted Bundy. 16 or 17 when he escaped jail, I was thumbing rides around Denver, thinking nothing bad would happen to me. I'm damn lucky nothing ever did.

  7. B.... ....

I heard that the title comes from a type of plant (some kind of hawthorne iirc?) that grows in Washington, but personally the first thing that came to my mind was red police lights and sirens.

  8. X.... ....

you guys ever wonder what heaven's soundtrack sounds like?? probably this and all over and over and over and over and over. i'm gonna die now. hahahahhaha. sWear she's gonna kill me. but don't guys truly. no kidding it's yum yum in heaven

  9. W.... ....

Deep red bells are the flowers that grew along the Green River.

  10. W.... ....

RIP all the billions of babies murdered by women since the 1960s. You sour bitches killed more human beings in 40 years than men did in a million!

  11. C.... H....

Came here from Lauren O'Connell's amazing cover of this great song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2opl2JtdDYw

A truly great song and a great singer.

  15. R.... W....

Please, could someone make karaoke tracks for Neko's songs? She has exactly my voice range and I so want to sing these. I kill 'em a'capella  - these songs are just so good.

  16. P.... C....

Juuust found out that deep red bells could be taken for testicles. Deep as i had been done = balls deep

  17. b.... m....

I love -everything- about this song!!!

    b.... m....

EVERYTHING!! Blacklisted was one of my favorite albums too!

  18. j.... s....

first saw her on Austin City limits a few years ago. just listened to deep red bells for to the first time today. wow. thanks to all that posted of the genius of this song. was hooked by wish I was the moon and calling cards. someone said her line about the engine oil tasting like being poor and popsicles in summer was an understand of the victims. I don't know that she can write that and connect with us so intimately, if that wasn't her life. listen to star witness and the sidewalk skins my knees there's glass in the thermos and blood on my jeans. that isn't empathizing. she lived that. rambling, my bad. love this human

  19. T.... F....

    nail video

  20. F.... G....

I remember the first time I heard this song it really struck me. Then I looked up what it was about and the next time I listened to it I got the shivers. I still get goosebumps when she sings "Where does this mean world cast it's cold eye? Who's left to suffer long without you?".

  21. C.... S....

"When speckled fawns graze 'round your bones
Who took the time to fold your clothes
And shook the valley of the shadow?"
I actually grew up in Seattle around the time when the Green River killer was at large...didnt know Neko but yeah haha..i know i know "everyone says that online"...but i actually lived the nightmare that was Seattle in the early 80s..none of us knew he was only targeting prostitutes because they never flat out came out and said it...so my girlfriends and i would always check on each other afterschool and if we went out we had various way to signal danger and keep in contact while at a bar or something (though we did not own cell phones)......it went on around 24 months...and it was truly terrifying being female...The most frightening part about him was he was an average looking soccer dad....he really was ....he didnt look like a monster AT ALL...I remember in one of his confession tapes....he said he was doing the police a favor by killing all those women because the majority were sex workers.......a true monster ...and not even a fascinating one...not smart...just typical yet unexpected

    C.... S....

very 'ted bundy' and chilling... i fear we are seeing a rise of violence against women by psycho- and sociopathic 'incels'

  22. C.... H....

I've always said, Neko's songs are on par with Lennon/McCartney. This is one of my proofs.

    C.... H....

Highly recommended is the Bronx genius Laura Nyro, the most influential female musician of the last 50 years. Inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame 2012. Too many songs to recommend, but she can do anything from pop (Sweet Blindness, 1968) to some of the darkest songs you will ever hear 'Gibsom Street' (1969), 'Been on a Train' (1970). She wrote the iconic Wedding Bell Blues, And When I Die, Stoney End, all released 1966/67. Nyro was a prodigy who wrote many of her best songs while in her teens.

    C.... H....

And now I've spent the last two hours listening to the incomparable Laura Nyro. Not a bad way to spend an evening. So, thanks for that. :-)

  23. p.... b....

Her best song. Chilling and perfect.

  24. Z.... H....

    love, love...the descriptions...

  25. C.... H....

If you've ever been to this part of Washington State, the wild ferns grow with their curled shoots. This is a very chilling visual the lyrics give about them growing around the bones.

    C.... H....

Christina Hill The image of the killer folding her clothes in the next line always gives me a shiver...

    C.... H....

I lived there and I concur.

  26. S.... A....

I haven't heard of a song that compares to the musical masterpiece of this song.

  27. k.... ....

    songwriting at its best

    k.... ....

koenigs deep as i had been done. Balls deep

  28. E.... A....

    Shivers

  29. M.... H....

I don't know how i missed this group for 14 years. Fantastic song and lyrics.

The dichotomy of the song being mostly upbeat and the words being serious and sad is a good fit.

God bless all the missing who were never cared enough about to be found.

    M.... H....

I just started checking this artist out, and I first heard of her ~4 years ago.

  30. c.... ....

remembering the girls and women disappeared on The Highway of Tears in BC, Canada. fix this shit Canada.

    c.... ....

It's about the Green River killer

    c.... ....

I understand; it simply reminded me of the Highway of Tears. That ok?

  31. s.... ....

    s.... ....

    +sidDkid87 it does

    s.... ....

+aimeegreen mine too - must be contagious :/

    s.... ....

    I like Katy Perry too

  32. r.... ....

I didn't know this song I love is about murdering girls.  Wow.

    r.... ....

@realtime38 It's about Gary Ridgway. He was a serial murderer near Tacoma (where she grew up) I think around the time when she was a young adult or teen. He's a horrible man but it's fascinating to read about him.

    r.... ....

+Kate Stolwyk I had heard that she wrote it about the victims, but yeah...

  33. D.... P....

Rest in peace to all the women and girls murdered by men. Rest in peace to the women and girls who were never found and their mothers still looking for them.

    D.... P....

Really? Goddamn you must be desperate for attention online typing shit like this.

    D.... P....

Dear Prudence rest in peace, those of us raped. No more trust.

    D.... P....

Space_Race Lol I really fn hope that's a cynical joke. If not, you're the pathetic joke now.

  34. p.... ....

a   haunting  voice    and  an  ethereal  presence  on stage   great  performer !!   love those  ginger  girls!!

  35. M.... L....

I lived in Tucson when Neko was living there too.  I picked my wife up at Tucson airport and while I was waiting to grab her luggage off the carousel  Neko walks up with who I believe was Carolyn Mark and the two of them stood there singing while waiting for luggage.  How cool is that?

    M.... L....

that is fucking amazing, rare moments of the universe indeed

    M.... L....

Oh wow... I'm in AZ, will I ever see her?!

  36. I.... S....

For anyone wondering, the song is about this man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Ridgway

  37. K.... F....

I appreciate the sound quality of your upload.  Would love to see a high quality video of Neko and her band performing this song.

  38. r.... s....

Awesome!!!    love her and this song.

  39. a.... ....

Only in America is there music this good.

    a.... ....

    From Virginia

    a.... ....

I have to just point out how strong Neko's Canadian influence is though.  She recorded some in Vancouver and Ontario and the whole thing was mixed and produced in Canada by legendary Vancouver producer Darryl Neudorf.  In any event great album eh?

    a.... ....

Sorry, no. However, I listen to a great deal of American music.

    a.... ....

    Obviously know nothing about Canada

    a.... ....

Agreed only in the sense she is exceptionally unique and luck have it ....just happens to be in the US. Other than that there is amazing music the world over.

  40. B.... S....

Neko has such a sound, it puts my mind back out on the road, watching the dawning in a different land :)

  41. J.... L....

i love her. i have seen her more than any other artist/performer. and i am a total extreme metal/punk fan. haha. shes just so awesome.

  42. l.... m....

yes i agree...have always felt that way

  43. K.... K....

Whether it was about murder or not it is a VERY eerie, yet hauntingly beautiful song. It does, however, bring images of dying and lust into my head, that just draws you in . Obviously someone was lured to their untimely ending, and their lives weren't rememberable to anyone, they had been forgotten. It would seem that Neko created a story that told us exactly how it all ended, She gave them justice and truth. One of the most creative and talented song writers of our time people!!

  44. M.... M....

While the red bells rang like thuunder!

  45. g.... ....

First heard this song when I was visiting my brother years ago for the summer. Been trying to find it ever since.
