"This Note's For You" is a fun video and great statement about commercialism in the music industry. Today there are many artists who haven't (or can't) sell out. You never hear about them because they don't advertise and their music isn't for sale so no one wants to put them on radio or T.V.. Most of these artists can be found on sites like Reverbnation, Bandcamp, or Soundcloud where music is free. These artists make music simply for the love of it and just want to be recognized....(so they can start making money).... there lies the "Paradox" - which is a fine NY film available on Netflix. As we glide ahead songwriters find it difficult to make money from their songs. The internet provides little compensation or nothing at all. "Selling out" is not even an option. Neil Young brought the subject into light with "This Note's For You" and made it an issue for himself. "Makes me feel like a joke" he sings. Why not sell out? It a matter called integrity. Some artist's have it and some sell out. Is there integrity in creating music available for free? If music is free does it still have value? How do you measure integrity without value? So many questions for Mr. Shakey or anyone really...... "This Note's For You."
