Neil Young - Loner Lyrics
He's a perfect stranger,
Like a cross
of himself and a fox.
He's a feeling arranger
And a changer
He's the unforeseen danger
The keeper of
the key to the locks.
Know when you see him,
Nothing can free him.
Step aside, open wide,
It's the loner.
If you see him in the subway,
He'll be down
Watching you move
Until he knows
he knows who you are.
When you get off
at your station alone,
He'll know that you are.
Know when you see him,
Nothing can free him.
Step aside, open wide,
It's the loner.
There was a woman he knew
About a year or so ago.
She had something
that he needed
And he pleaded
with her not to go.
On the day that she left,
He died,
but it did not show.
Know when you see him,
Nothing can free him.
Step aside, open wide,
It's the loner.

Neil Percerval Young, the Godfather of Grunge
there is a reason why people are saying that !!
Dig the Springfield vibes in this song. I wish Stills did a version.
He actually did do a version. It's on Illegal Stills.

I got this brand new album as a gift on my 25th birthday.
Thank you Neil, for writing my theme song for me
First turned onto The Loner from the Double Album soundtrack of the movie "The Strawberry Statement" when I was 10
Nothing can free 42 people.
Such a great song...
my friends older sister had this album and we loved it then in the 8th grade, knew Neil was Real... and look at all the goodness so far!!
The 70s was an amazing decade of music!
@Degree7
I stand corrected.
Although you could say the 70s really began in ‘68
This album did get popular in the 70s because it's marketed poorly upon release in 68.
In 1970 thats when after the gold rush album came out I believe it was neil young's second album
As of July 17, 2019.....37 people who just don't get it.....
Those poor people
@Andrew Petik .....absolutely
fahk them their loss
🎼🎵🎵🎶🎵Bravo ⚘
Gaz Coombes from Supergrass Play that song very well
Saw Neil Young when he got back with Crazy Horse in Atlanta...I think it was in 85, anyway, it was a really good show.
If only neil young in the futurr could foresee that loners in the present can go online and talk to people without exposing their body or character. If only neil could know. But he kind of did know. And today he is seeing that occur. I hope neil never uses twitter because all the bitter loners are there.
My Theme Song.
Invisible Boy.....NOOO, it’s actually mine. Sorry!
Ensuite comes a time
il faut avoir le deuxième également, everybody knows this is nowhere, il y a trois chansons essentielles dans la carrière de NY : cinnamon girl, down by the river et cowgirl in the sand. moi aussi je collectionne, avec neil young quand on commence c'est difficile d'arreter... et la liste est longue...
Lady Stardust prends Zuma aussi !
I'm convinced Todd Rundgren got his entire sound from 0:37 to 0:51 in this song.
Jake LM todd had already created great, idiosyncratic albums with his band Nazz by the time this came out. Todd wrote all the songs and produced
Not much of a Neil Young fan but I love this one
Eric Hughes check out Neil Young. Change Your Mind

I bought this on vinyl back in the daze ...
Still have mine
Rhythm section was George Grantham on drums and jim messina on bass on loan from poco at the time ('69).
Thanks, I always wondered who played drums on this track.
Jim Messina was also in Buffalo Springfield at the time.
Chris, did Neil do all the guitar work in this song?
2020 anybody ?
listen to the orchestra on this
Exactly... also on his song Expecting to fly
he's the unforeseen DANGER and the keeper of the keys to the law" THE LONER
It's keeper of the key to the lock
Nothing can free him, Step aside, open wide
OMG what a pocket rhythm section. The Mofos of Mojo
