Neil Sedaka - The Diary Lyrics

Whoa, oh

How I'd like to look
Into that little book
The one that has the lock and key
And know the boy that you care for
The boy who's in your diary

When it's late at night
What is the name you write?
Oh, what I'd give if I could see
Am I the boy that you care for?
The boy who's in your diary

Do you recall
And make note of all
The little things I say and do?
The name you underline
I'm hoping
That it's mine
Darling, I'm so in love with you

Please don't leave me blue
Make all my dreams come true
You know how much you mean to me
Say I'm the boy that you care for
The boy who's in your diary

Whoa, oh

Oh, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo
Whoo

What a total bunch of shit that Neil Sedaka wasn't in the rock and roll hall of fame 20 years ago. Singer, entertainer, excellent piano player. Hell, he's one of the few stars left from the late 50s-early 60s.

  6. K.... H....

My late wife and I first met in 1958 and this song was one of the first we listen to together, great memories.

Neil Sedaka one of my favorite singer/writers. This song is well written, and is what youngsters go through.. I saw Neil, in Maui, Hi bout twenty years ago. He played awesome world class classical piano for the first half hour, then he played all of his old hits, he was marvelous. As a kid I knew all of his songs.. Jesus bless Neil Sedaka and ohana..

  34. A.... E....

Powerful voice has this singer. The 50's were a romantic time, the songs sound so artificial today! Bravo, Neil Sedaka!

This is one of Neil's best. A timeless teenage angst classic.

  42. P.... S....

the only rock n'roll singer that is a Julliard graduate!

    P.... S....

And he auditioned for the Van Cliburn award in Russia on classical piano.

    P.... S....

+Paul Singer This isn't rock 'n' roll. Not even close.

  43. L.... S....

My sisters would joke about this song: In My Diaria. We were all kids in 1958.

  44. R.... L....

Little Anthony's version good but not as good as Neil Sedaka's

    R.... L....

@Rick Laponte Little Anthony shined on the Diary. Neil Sedaka owns it.

  45. b.... ....

Neil has another version with a Saxophone in the background, both are excellent.

  46. D.... S....

now THAT was music! Those were the days.

Now here is a venerable oldie. Neil at his best.

  54. D.... B....

He was the original lead singer of The Tokens on the Melba label, "While I Dream"  (Melba #104)and played the chimes for The Willows on "Church Bells May Ring", (Melba #102).

  55. S.... B....

One of the best songs of Neil Sedaka.  The lyrics is beautiful and meaningful for a teenager in 1`959!

  56. T.... ....

One of my all time favorites by this master singer and musician. What a talent !!!

  57. A.... G....

Neil Sedaka is my uncle's first cousin . I never met Neil ,but his mom was at my house in 1971 when my mom had a bridal shower for her sister ( my aunt ) before she married my soon to be uncle

    Old times...

  60. B.... H....

he gave this song to little anthony, and they f*#ed it up. so he made this recording.

    B.... H....

Brad Hardy How did Little Anthony "fuck it up"?
Have a good, legitimate reason other than the blatantly obvious one... No?

Then you are just another piece of crap.
No credibility and no other reason other than what is Black and White (pun DEFINITELY intended).

  61. N.... E....

I was a teenager at that moment and I am now nearly 69.

    N.... E....

I am sure we are not related but I was 11 at that time and now I am 67.I never kept a diary.I do like this song  by Neil Sedaka and it takes back to my childhood. He had many more hits to come.

Hello Carli Chick, I've tried facebook---friends reunited- and several other sites. we were friends from 60 to 62 when I left the UK and wrote to each other until 1966. Since then I have not heard from the lady.

  69. s.... ....

On this day in 1959 {Feb. 28th} Neil Sedaka performed "The Diary" on the ABC-TV program 'The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show'
Two months earlier on Dec. 8th, 1958 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #14 and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100
    It was his 1st charted record; he had three prior releases {"Laura Lee" in 1957, "Ring-A-Rocking" and "Oh, Delilah!" both in 1958}
R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012} and Mr. Sedaka will turn 74 years old this coming March 13th

  70. M.... D....

Like Cats said today she's write it on Facebook, Twitter it and Pin it too. lol

  71. C.... ....

@lateforbreakfast Today a girl would just write what she's thinking on Facebook and everyone would know, lol.

  72. C.... ....

@musicmandon1 A hug can make everything better!

  73. l.... ....

I know this was released in 58 but I must have been walking about with my ears closed because I never heard it until 1960..I was madly in puppy love with a girl who had the record in her collection and she played it, i was impressed by the song and wondered then and now if I was the boy in her diary.

  74. m.... ....

@CatsPjamas1 Once I sang the John Denver song "My Sweet Lady," at a talent show for a girl friend who was in the audience. I also sang a comedy song. I was told later, had I stuck to the comedy I would have won, because my voice isn't suited for romantic songs. Had the girl been a no-show (And she almost was,) I would have only done the comedy. she got there only minutes before I was to go on stage. Losing wasn't so bad when we were hugging later that evening.

  75. C.... ....

@musicmandon1 I've always been a romantic sap. I used to sing songs to so many girls in high school, sometimes in personal settings with just the two of us and other times in front of the whole school in pep rallies. I sang "The Diary" in front of the girl's English class in this case. I wrote a few poems for girls too.

  76. m.... ....

Tom, you must be joking. You were a sentimental sap like me when you were in high school? I would have done just what you did, given the chance. Twice I wrote poems for girls, both of which I expect ended up in the trash right after the girl got them.
I thought this would be the diary song by Bread, where the sap finds out he isn't the guy his girl writes about in her little book.

    m.... ....

E' stata una delle canzoni della mia giovinezza . L' ho sentita tantissime volte e ancora l'ascolto con commozione.
