Neil Diamond - Both Sides Now Lyrics

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds
From both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancin' way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love
From both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

But now old friends
They're acting strange
They shake their heads
And say I've changed
Well something's lost
But something's gained
In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

    MARAVILLOSA INTERPRETACION.

  11. J.... F....

A Neil diamond lo escucho desde la década del 70 y dudo que haya un artista tan completo como el es extraordinario.

    J.... F....

    Estoy de acuerdo ..

  12. E.... S....

Since the 60s Niel Diamonds my favourate. Still have LPs like Hot August Night.

  13. S.... M....

My favorite singeralways made me feel good after I'm down

  15. j.... ....

    Absolutely Beautiful!

  16. N.... H....

I haven't heard this song in years. Just so beautiful.

  17. J.... C....

The greatest singer that is hugely underrated!

  18. B.... K....

This has to be one of the mist beautiful songs ever written. Neil's version is pretty good.

But to truly appreciate this song listen to the author sing it in her 20s and then her 50s. That truly is tge definitive version.

And for something out of lefte field, Leonard Nimoy. His version is so bloody heartfelt. In fact so so so so many good versions. Certainly a great song.

  19. j.... ....

A stunning version with excellent vocals by the legend.

  20. J.... L....

Joni Mitchell’s version is way better. But Neil’s amazing in Play Me

  21. j.... ....

Still the best version out there.....

  22. J.... S....

😘 The whole world loves that Man ❤️🎸🎼🎵🎶👣💌

  23. J.... M....

I never heard him sing this song before! I love his rendition! What a great artist. He has written the lyrics and melodies for many songs. Not many artists have accomplished this! Thank you so much, ‘Bonnddd’ for posting the introspective and emotional lyrics to this song. 🥰👍☺️

  24. R.... P....

His "Live at the Greek" record was great!!

  25. D.... Z....

I love it and the pictures are GREAT! Thank you 😊❤️

  26. D.... G....

I like pretty much like everything Neil has ever written or sung. But my favorite cover of this song remains Judy Collins. She has the purest vocals, and really understands what the song means.

  27. R.... A....

    Guapo!!! Neildi

  28. A.... D....

The first version of the song I heard, and honestly it's the best! Diamond's voice is painfully beautiful here, and the orchestral bits are moving. Can't find a better version than this!

  29. E.... T....

He was singing with his heart ....love....and care.

  30. H.... A....

when all is said and done no body can beat neil, the greatest,

  31. L.... H....

He sings this too? He also has my jacket, I am a female. lol, he has good taste.

  32. U.... W....

    wonderful

  33. b.... ....

terrible....terrible...it is not a commercial song ...it is not a jingle...

  34. d.... f....

I like to add a few other performers : Joni Mitchell (2000), Julio Bernardo Euson (1971), Mary Fall (2013), Sara Bareilles (2017 Academy Awards)..Try them... they are absolute worth to listen to....A must!
But I've loved many performances of this song.... And it isn't important who sings it the best... that doesn't matter. The important is the quality... by bringing it in a such a honestly way that you could feel the different approach in contemplating about the subject.... THE "THRILL" IS IN THE DISCOVERING OF THE DIFFERENT WAY OF VENTILATING THESE FEELINGS. THAT MAKES IT SO INTRIGUING.
Of course a good voice is very helpfull!..A man like Neil..very charming ...
But there are more great performers: Judi Collins (1984) Glenn Campbell(1970), Bing Crosby(1959), Roger Whittaker....even Harry Belafonte...Pete Seeger who added a few lines:
"Daughter, daughter...So let me say, before i go:...We've all been living upside down...And turned around, with love unfound...Until we turn and face the sun...Yes , all of us, everyone"
And some of the late renditions are very complementary too: Unni Wilhelsen perhaps..and a very expressive and honestly singing Heidi Ruud Ellingsen..in a Norwegian TV programm..."so lovely"....
And of course I forget to mention a lot of others... Which are all worth to do a try.
But this song(of Joni Mitchell) is so full of reflecting about our life... the existence...So deep touching everyone's soul....Joni thanks for it.

    d.... f....

Sorry I was too much in a hurry... correction: Mary Fahl /Unni Wilmelmsen

    About Neil...
He's like good wine...."Red, red wine".
“Age appears best in four things: old wood to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust and old authors to read.” (Francis Bacon). I would like to add a fifth thing: "Old good( looking) Neil Diamond to listen too. " For me I found Neil in his love songs on his best. And as good wine he's still becoming even a better singer-songwriter. Extraordinary man, .a solitary man.. inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011..a Glory Road life...Neil evermore.

    d.... f....

You gotta check out the version by Dion

    d.... f....

    WOW,
great (a tiny rest of doo wop), but great...I like it...an absolute must

  35. D.... D....

He is the second most bad ass to ever step before a microphone.

    D.... D....

who is the first most bad ass? :)

  36. L.... D....

Totally agree with tricky dick. I thought for a long time that Diamond wrote this because his cover is so authentic and is by far my favourite version of a brilliant song

  37. P.... M....

Neil if nothing else continued to prove with this song how utterly bereft he was of anything close to a singing voice. He waffled and quacked his way through an annoying career delivering song after song that sounded much the same as a rusty hinge in a night storm. Today I'm hopeful this foolish old critter has been finally gagged and bagged while residing in some long lost senior home connected to a colostomy bag.

    P.... M....

You jerk. Neil Diamond has a magnificent voice and he is among the most beautiful people that ever lived.

    P.... M....

Paddy Murphy You sorry excuse for a human being. As for you I hope your colostomy bag will be connected to your head.

    P.... M....

Good grief...I can only assume you are deliberately trying to provoke anyone who likes him!

    P.... M....

    @canta libre you are right!

    P.... M....

@canta libre paddy m is gago!

  38. T.... ....

I have to say that for me it has always been Diamond's song. I didn't know til now that J. Mitchel wrote it originally. But i happens more than one would think that the cover version is a whopper (Phil Collins can't hurry love etc. etc).

  39. B.... C....

This could be the most beautiful song ever made!

  40. J.... B....

He has the perfect voice and style for a male version of this classic.

  41. M.... W....

I have to disagree. no diamonds is the second best version of this the best version is actually done by Joni Mitchell herself in the soundtrack of Love Actually. the age in her voice and the emotion can't be beat and she is the one who wrote the song

  42. C.... B....

Takes his singing seriously and it shows.

  43. J.... B....

    The best version. Heartfelt.

    J.... B....

he has a wonderful way about him his voice is great and with feeling

  44. B.... M....

Sorry this sounds like a lounge act in a bad part of New York!

  45. R.... O....

Neil Diamond can do no wrong.

    R.... O....

    Turn on your heartlight??

    R.... O....

    Nor can an amoeba

  46. N.... R....

This is a wonderful (best) version of the Joni Mitchell song. You can hear the pain in Neil's voice as he sings this with conviction. IMO anyway.

  47. B.... C....

neil diamond nailed this song GREAT VERSION, feels like a sad song yet you feel so gloriously happy when you hear it wtf, this is what music should do to you!!!

    B.... C....

I always thought that this was a Neil Diamond original. Lol I googled to find the other versions and have to agree Neil does this song justice. Joni's is good though

  48. M.... W....

Only Diamond truly understands this brilliant song, and how to sing it.

    M.... W....

Unmm..love all of it and him too!

  49. R.... ....

This man's has had such a beautiful life.  Lucky man.

    R.... ....

He paid the highest settlement at the time, when he got divorced. Outch!

  50. t.... d....

I was lucky to listen to this version of the song the first time I heard it at all. Actually Diamond is the only one who really understands what the song is all about: disillusionment, not (only) peace found. So his interpretation with a dose of angriness recalling the past is spot on. The other singers (and their arrangers) put too much saccharine in their interpretations: see, Mitchell, Collins, Sinatra (who rarely knew how to handle new songs); Crosby (better than Sinatra, but still too idylliac); Andy Williams (most sugary of all); Campbell, Cilla Black, Pete Seeger (who just doen't seem to know what he's singing). Susan Boyle seems to have understood something of this song, though I think her version is too much slow. She comes second behind Diamond. Still is paradoxical that only one singer manged to nail it, though everybody seems to have taken notice of this great song anyway.

    t.... d....

idk the mitchell trio with john denver is pretty darn good. not studio...theres just the live one floating around. They shouldve recorded it

    t.... d....

@skankerveen Heard that almost spoken version. He just have to talk the song because he hasn't got the voice to sing it: see how he gives up singing the high notes and makes it all flat.

    t.... d....

@cinni sweet Embarrassing: she floats between whispers and plain talk: she never had a great voice but by that time she had lost even that little bit.

    t.... d....

Tricky Dick, if you put Susan Boyle on "1.25" faster (Right-hand side speed control) it comes out great

  51. A.... H....

Such an uplifting song - thank you :0)

  52. D.... W....

lovely this song wow he does it so very well

  53. t.... ....

Uncultured voice. Sounds like some hick farmer.

    t.... ....

    +tryarunm
Ok, step away from the keyboard, your mummy is calling.

  54. D.... G....

Thanks for sharing! Joni Mitchell wrote this song and sang it first. Several other versions were done by other artists. Some of them are: Roger Whittaker, Cilla Black, Susan Boyle, Judy Collins and others.

    D.... G....

i think mitchell wrote it for Judy collins who first recorded it, and won a grammy for best folk performance

  55. V.... C....

    what an amazing voice

  56. S.... P....

    I loved It....

  57. f.... c....

This was written by Joni Mitchell. Judy Collins does a great version to. :-)

  58. I.... ....

    Oh my, the best....

  59. b.... c....

I love this song. My father used to play it on an old 8 track cassette player way back in the !970's, it always brought tears to his eyes. Wonderful song.

  60. r.... ....

Why doesn't this have more views! Neil is the first person I've heard sing it. Another version I've heard is by Leonard Nimoy who did a pretty good job too, in my opinion. It's funny because I always thought Neil wrote this song.. It is very similar to his style :) one of my favorite songs! I could listen to him sing it all day long

    r.... ....

judy collins does a lovely version.

  61. X.... T....

    nice job, Neil
