"Poor bastards" is more of an endearment and heartfelt term of sympathy toward those treated with malign.

Howerer I do think Nazareth in the 70s was quite down to earth, but as it usually goes, they went with a bit mainstream when the 80s rolled around...

If by “performed live” you mean the band lip synced to a backing track of the record, then I suppose you could stretch the definition of “live”, but they certainly did not PLAY this song live!
They also did “Bad Bad Boy” and that was played live.

Да, были времена! У меня знакомец, проживавший в солнечном городишке Малаховка, в те чудные лета имел бобину с Назаретом, записанную не на той скорости - быстрей раза в 2 и, соответственно, выше. Жутко пёрся при этом - жутчайше просто! Бывало выкушает синьки и... ну, словом - всей душой! И только спустя пару лет узнал он, как звучит альбом на обычной своей скорости и нотах. Короче, совсем ему не вкатило.

They came in for a sound test just before I finished my shift and they did this song for an Audience Of One ---- ME! .... I freaked out and danced like a headbangger right in front the stage and they laughed and thanked me when they were done. ... a totally AWESOME day at work!

Nazareth is one of those bands that never have to keep up with the new music trends and slap out album after album. They can just play the old stuff year after year and still draw in the crowds. This song is what 44yrs old this year and its still a fav on classic rock stations.
