National, The - Graceless Lyrics

Graceless
Is there a powder to erase this?
Is it dissolvable and tasteless?
You can't imagine how I hate this
Graceless

I'm trying, but I'm graceless
Don't have the sunny side to face this
I am invisible and weightless
You can't imagine how I hate this
Graceless

I'm trying, but I'm gone
Through the glass again
Just come and find me
God loves everybody, don't remind me
I took the medicine and I went missing
Just let me hear your voice, just let me listen

Graceless
I figured out how to be faithless
But it would be a shame to waste this
You can't imagine how I hate this
Graceless

I'm trying, but I'm gone
Through the glass again
Just come and find me
God loves everybody, don't remind me
I took the medicine and I went missing
Just let me hear your voice, just let me listen

All of my thoughts of you
Bullets through rotten fruit
Come apart at the seams
Now I know what dying means

I am not my rosy self
Left my roses on my shelf
Take the white ones, they're my favorites
It's the side effects that save us

Grace
Put the flowers you find in a vase
If you're dead in the mind it'll brighten the place
Don't let them die on the vine, it's a waste
Grace

There's a science to walking through windows
There's a science to walking through windows
There's a science to walking through windows
There's a science to walking through windows without you

All of my thoughts of you
Bullets through rotten fruit
Come apart at the seams
Now I know what dying means

I am not my rosy self
Left my roses on my shelf
Take the white ones, they're my favorites
It's the side effects that save us

Grace
Put the flowers you find in a vase
If you're dead in the mind it will brighten the place
Don't let them die on the vine, it's a waste
Grace

Grace
Put the flowers you find in a vase
If you're dead in the mind it will brighten the place
Don't let them die on the vine, it's a waste
Grace

National, The Graceless Comments
  1. M Ouija

It takes so much writing to explain why this band, this song, and this video is great. You can spend two weeks crafting an airtight dissertation on American Minimalism in the late 1990's, the movement towards Americana in Indie Rock over that period, etc, but who is the audience? The best you can expect is a shitball political comment or a 13 year old troll.

  2. Alex Castanon

Only part I heard,,,"God Loves Everybody"

  3. Leon Giles

Haha... they threw Bryan in the pool!!!

    Leon Giles

Actually, quite an achievement... he's quite a big fella...(?)

  4. Burzum 92

    In love with this masterpiece

  5. Piero Leal

Que temon que nunca dejó de escuchar...

  6. Gregory Ramos

They sound like new band from the 80's

  7. poppycock31185

The greatest "mainstream/known" band of today.

And lyrically, one of the greatest of all time.

  8. NotNotKenny

This song frightening captures my feelings and experiences after my mother had a stroke, but it could just be about taking a crap.

  9. asi pey

    verga nada tiene gracia

  10. Sara Baker

    Perfecto ! Епта ) Suka blia !!!

  11. Damian Phillips

11/21/19 Im 20 and got kicked out by my step parents when I was 18. I found my bio mom a year and a half ago and she showed me this and all these years i don't think I've ever connected more to a song and never though me and my mom would reconnect after all the years.

  12. Septic Neuron

    1:36 - 2:09
My last five braincells during a final I know I'm gonna bomb

  13. Brandon Caridi

I'm guessing this, and the music video for Sea of Love where they're grooving as they play the song while wearing the same tuxes and a kid is dancing with them, is supposed to represent the duality of adults. We want to appear sophisticated and well-read, but we honestly want to spend time with our childhood/adolescent selves and have fun without responsibilities. There's immaturity deep within us that's begging to be freed.

  14. Jack

they have such great music videos

  15. ben lowman

Ian Curtis would be proud... I'm late to the party when come this band. I was telling my girlfriend, The National is Joy Divison 2.0 for me.

  32. Martin McGarrigle

    🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

  33. DJC Coetzee

    Greatest music video ever made!

  34. yo_peej

I used to think this music video didn't match the gravity of the song. Now, several years later, I see its levity as the band's characteristically tongue-in-cheek reprieve from the gravity of the song, which paradoxically enhances both the gravity and the levity of the song.

    Also, potato cannon.

  35. sandokanfirst2

I've yet to discover any music by The National that's worth my while. Do all their songs have this lack of urgency?

  36. Edward Temper

I love the push and pull groove of this song...fits the lyrical theme perfectly. This is a very heavy band...not in a metal sense of course...the tortured poetic words grind with the music in a way that leaves me feeling slapped in the face with overwhelming sadness. Outstanding and disturbing just the same.... the national is a good band I can't listen to...too fucking sad...a modern day THE CURE maybe...better lipstick?

  37. dope smokin pope

So this is what rich and talented musicians do on their days off.

  38. Milan Heusschen

This is the coolest videoclip I have ever seen in my fucking life.

  46. GVD Z33

I bet Gillette thinks this is toxic masculinity, but I think it it looks like an amazing time! This is how you do a bachelor party!

  47. L 'n' P gamer

im 9 and i love this band can u do a tour in dunedin new zealand

  48. Ben Lafond

This is what music videos should be. No organization. Just a bunch of people pissing around in a somehow beautiful way

  49. DontWorry Houston

This song brings me so much nostalgia, I don't even know why it makes me feel so sad

  50. Andrew Mojzer

This is the strangest Kubota commercial I've ever seen.

  51. Benjamin Heintzman

I always thought that as he sings about how: 'there's a science to walking through windows,' he is actually talking about sneaking out of heaven. Assuming heaven has windows. Could also be talking about sneaking out of hell. Any thoughts?

    Benjamin Heintzman

Then again, hell would probably have bars on its windows...

  52. Vicente Zambrano

    what a waste of beer

  53. Burzum 92

    Cool song!!

  54. Terrapin alive

    I just love this vid

  55. C R

I find it so so obvious that this song documents addiction, rock bottom, and a hint of a speck of hope. But I am aware that may be simply bias on my part. Seeing what is relevant to me myself. Addicts are especially guilty of this bias I think.
But its true : the side effects DO save us. Grace.

    C R

Glad I got out before it was too late. I always think of Layne Staley sitting in that apartment until the bitter bitter end, alone degraded inhuman. Would I still be in that room if I was independently wealthy??? Perhaps. Hell, even Yes, as of today. But I hope not until the end. I don't want to go there

  56. Luke Berrie

“All of my thoughts of you
Bullets through rotten fruit
Come apart at the seams
Now I know what dying means
I am not my rosy self
Left my roses on my shelf
Take the white ones, they're my favorite
It's the side effects that save us”

    Absolute poetry.

  62. James A

God love everybody don’t remind me...

  63. Burlingame

Looking back, this is all I ever needed from the National, their whole discog aside. I've watched this when I'm happy, when I'm sad, melancholy and the spaces in between. It always works. Polite despair has its anthem.

  64. Fio Sici

  68. Shukulata Sanchez

    Sin gracia
    El Nacional
    Sin gracia
¿Hay un polvo para borrar esto?
    ¿Es soluble e insípido?
No te puedes imaginar cómo odio a este
    Graceless
Lo intento, pero no tengo gracia
    gracia.
    gracia.
Lo estoy intentando, pero he vuelto a
    atravesar el cristal.
    Sólo ven y búscame.
Dios ama a todos, no me recuerdes
que tomé el medicamento y me fui.
Solo déjame escuchar tu voz, solo déjame escuchar.
    Todos mis pensamientos sobre ti
Balas a través de frutos podridos Se
    deshacen en las costuras
Ahora sé lo que significa morir
    No soy mi color rosado.
    No soy mi color rosado.

  92. Andrew Cruz

    Reservoir Dogs??

  93. Ferris Langston

This reminds me of Billy Murray's self-loathing swimming pool scene in Rushmore. I guess that's just how awesome these guys are-- I can emotionally connect them to Wes Anderson's off-beat visuals automatically. Not to mention they're a little reminiscent of Morphine. So poignant and gorgeous.

  94. Amy Allen

I mourn the beer like fallen soldiers.

Clashy beat on a Beachboysy video 🙃
