Natalie Cole - Annie Mae Lyrics
(Hoo, hoo, hoo) Mmm (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Growing up wasn't easy for Annie Mae
(Hoo, hoo, hoo)
A little girl in a great big world
Annie Mae (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Some people swore she'd never last
She was (growing up much too fast)
Growing (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Just a little too fast (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Never had her a Mama, no, no
Annie Mae (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Rarely heard a kind spoken word
Annie Mae (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Looking at life through an empty shell
And all the time she's catching hell
(Growing up much too fast) up much too fast
Does anybody know where is Annie Mae today
Where oh where is Annie Mae
All you got to do is look into the faces of
All the young girls
On the avenue--(young girls!)
Oh, well, (hoo, hoo, hoo) ha
In the night hear her cry, Annie Mae (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Hurt and pain keeps coming again
And again, and again, Annie Mae (hoo, hoo, hoo)
Trippin' and runnin' is blowin' her mind
Tryin' to decide if she'll make it this time
She was (growing up) oh, yeah (much too fast)
She was (growing up much too fast)
Somebody got to stop her, oh Annie, Annie
(Ooh) (hoo, hoo, hoo) (where is Annie Mae)
Annie, Annie
Somebody
(Ooh) (hoo, hoo, hoo) (where is Annie Mae)
got to stop her, oh, Annie, Annie,
(Ooh) (hoo, hoo, hoo) (where is Annie Mae)
Annie, Annie
She's runnin', she's runnin'
Growin' up too fast, oh, oh
(She's running') oh, oh
Growin' up too fast, oh, oh
(She's runnin') oh, oh
Growin' up too fast, oh, hey
(She's runnin') Annie, Annie Mae, yeah
(She's running) Where you goin' Annie
(She's runnin') Don't you think somebody aught to stop you
(She's runnin') Somebody aught to stop you
(She's runnin') Don't you think I'm gonna try to stop you

I truly think that she was singing about herself. RIP Natalie Cole she also has an album in spanish .. she was very talented.
I was listening to a Natalie Cole playlist on Spotify and this song came on. I don't think I've heard it since I was a teen. I used to love this song so much. Hearing it and the way Natalie sang it brings me to my knees. Sing it Natalie. No one talks about how hard young black girls have it. This took me way back.
Jam Natalie.....be water 💦

Love Natalie Cole!!!!
Nobody's can't never ever take her place
She was a power house
She was a genius
She was so brilliant
She was so talented
She was a legend
She was underrated
Imiss her
Annie Mae was about a girl who used to babysit for her.But I think it also paralleled her life when she was younger. Her autobiography is one of the most candid and honest books I've read autobios by Chaka,Aretha, and Patti Labelles and ,Natalie's was the only one who was believable candid and honest about her life.
Memories 👀 aw yea

MS. NATALIE COLE. RIP AND THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC YOU MADE AND SUNG TO US.
Thank you Natile Cole. RIP.
This song is so deep and the groove is intoxicating! One of Natalie’s best!
In 1978 when this was released---I was in the USN stationed in California. I really gave the lyrics of this song a serious listen. It was the 70s and not long after the end of the hippie era & disco was in full swing---so I said good tune addresing young women getting taken advantage of in the popular culture movements of the times.
Years later I was to find out that Ms Cole didn't adjust to her "more privileged" upbringing (drug & alcohol abuse)---and I referred back to some of "coded" lyrics in this tune
I had a major crush on Ms Cole---and I always wondered was she also telling us she was hurting thru this tune. REST EASY Natalie Cole
Natalie Cole was the truth and she put her foot in this joint
R.i.p.... 🙏 Miss Cole. Earth is missing you Earth Angel....💔
This is a powerful message. Dedicated to all the Annie Mae's out there in the streets lost their lives the ones against their will and the ones who have gotten out. Thanks Natalie for recognizing the TRUTH.

CAPTURED MY HEART WITH OUR LOVE. R.IP. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. LOUIS HARRISON/ CONGO NATION.
The beginning of this song got me thinking that it was going to be "If Loving You Is Wrong, ( I Don't Wanna Be Right), by Luther Ingram. My mistake. My mistake. I was wrong
And sad as it is, especially for Annie Mae, it's just ain't cool. And that is, this kind of saddest funky music is just ain't something to get down on it.
