Nat King Cole - What'll I Do? Lyrics
What'll I do when you
Are far away
And I'm so blue,
What'll I do?
Am wondering who
Is kissing you,
What'll I do?
What'll I do with just
A photograph
To tell my troubles to?
When I'm alone
With only dreams of you
What'll I do?
When I'm alone
With only dreams of you
That won't come true,
What'll I do?

Nat King Cole What'll I Do? Comments
This song is like liquid gold medicine that eases the pain.
My grandmother's old record collection brought me here.
My God...this is so beautiful. Now this is what genuinely romantic music resonates. Loved Nat and Irving Berlin. Thank you!😍
Getting older, I think of the lyrics. So I say them daily to my husband Michael.
Nat King Cole does a way better version than Frank Sinatra and I LOVE Frank!
It was played in a very sad "Cheers" episode as well.
What a quiet song and music!
Does anyone knows its genre?
Or where can i find similar songs ??
Basically all of 1940's Pop/Easy Listening sounds similar. Listen to Frank Sinatra's first album (The Voice Of Frank Sinatra, 1946), I think you'll like it.
2019, I'm still a fan.
An awesome movie titled "The best of me" had this great song in it. I'm thankful for God blessing us with the technology we have to give us younger generations a chance to have real music like this in our lives.
A beautiful song sung by one of the best. NAT KING COLE RIP
The 80s baby in me says this song belongs to Dorothy Zbornak ( Bea Arthur) and none other! Even Cole and his buttery voice can't win me over on this one.
Golden Girls brought me here and I absolutely love this song as well as the rendition.
No song makes my eyes fill with tears as quickly and as deeply as this one does.
My love for Jazz and NKC brought me here... haha... 🤘🏼
What a beautiful song 💕💕
Mr Cole had such a beautiful voice
Awesome post 👌🎵🎵🎵
Our friend David
I would love a Beyoncé version of this but slowed down to showcase her real voice
Flawless x
Golden Girl's Dorothy Zbornak bought me here.☺
what would one call this genre of music?
Jazz, baby ;)
Easy Listening
The standards
Seria possível baixar essa música? Alguém sabe como?
A favorite tune played by a favorite vocalist. Pity he does not play piano
NKC does play the piano, John. He recorded this with his trio, not an orchestra.
at speed 1.5 i dig it a lot. sounds like the Bea Arthur one at that speed.
i miss you Brian always
the best of me😊
Best of me!!brought me herd
What an overrated pretty-boy.
Was watching The Golden Girls.. Dorothy singing this song brought me here.. nice song..
Me too🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
was the theme for a british sitcom in the 90's called "Birds of a Feather". Really loved it as a kid and the internet allowed me to find out what song it was many years later..
david guillen yes... dito
I was just thinking the same...I clearly recall viewing Dorothy singing this song. I believe I was born a few decades earlier than 1951; however I was always drawn to this type of musical genre....quality, depth and deeply sensitive. Wish romance and music resonated that period of time in this century. I owe my affinity for 'the old school" realm of thought to my late Mother. I clearly recall her singing these wonderful songs. Thank you Mom! I love and miss you!❤😔🌝
Me too😉
The great Nat King Cole, one of a kind, never to be equaled.
Musical genius !!!
LOVE this version. So lovely and romantic. Makes me want to dance : )
Beautiful Berlin song sung by the velvet voice of Nat King Cole. Sung with so much emotion. The trio is fantastic with Oscar Moore on the guitar.
I prefer Bea Arthur's singing this :-)
no shade thats why I came here and this is a no no for me
Sebastian Wendel YES!!! Absolutely!! Dorothy sings it the best!!!!
+Sebastian Wendel
Most unfair to compare a late 1980s melancholy rendition with Mr. Cole's own with the JAZZ trio from the late 1940s. Solution: as there was no one at the time to tell him not to trouble himself in recording this song should someone come along on TV decades later with a romantic version, I submit to best remove all trace of this recording and forever put an end to all comparisons. Actually, MAYBE someone should have told him not to ever leave Montgomery.
same. listened to Sinatra's version, too, and Dorothy's will always be the one I associate with this song.
I had this song on a CD called Irving Berlin's greatest hits. The entire album was a curated collection of the best recordings of songs Berlin had written. It was like listening to a long variety show with many different acts. And one of my girlfriends stole it from my collection. I've looked on and off for a replacement for the CD in the intervening 15 years, but I keep coming up dry. Thankfully, there is youtube, so I can still hear my favorites.
what a bitch

But at least one with good taste. Am I right?
From this fine voice of silk, to Jay Z.. WTF happened ?????
Tell me about it!
So true!
The song was written before my time but it is great. I like it as much as I like other oldies like Lazy River or Star Dust by Hoagy Carmichael. Life was slower then and one had more time to think about what one was doing or so my Grandfather told me long ago. Nice to hear.
Yes yes, my thoughts precisely :)
the best of me brought me here. 😍😍😍
The Best Of Me!!!
The Golden Girls brought me here!!!
The Golden Girls brought me here :,)
The Best of Me
Just heard this on an episode of Golden Girls
+jse325 lol same here just now, which brought me here!
The Best of Me, an adaptation movie from nicholas spark's novel brought me here. Such a great tune
Although I'm just 14
Jelena Rajcevic wôderful video !
Great movie until Dawson was killed...was not a great ending...wanted the romance of the moment
Nicholas spark sucks
Mee tooo
Who is the guitar player??
Oscar Moore
I was looking for this song like crazy, now I'm happy.
Just amazing <3
Love Nat. Doing the coursera class and for standards Frank is great too but a smooth Nat track takes you to another level.
This song describes my first encounter with love, perfectly...
Oh my so classy! Thanks 4 sharing!
This, a stiff drink, and a comforter are the only things that make our brutal winters bearable some days. Thx for uploading
coursera!! <3 o/
I just heard Bea Arthur sing this on Golden Girls! And even though I'm only 41; These artists and this kind of music are my favorite! ! Thanks for sharing. .. you're the best!
Bea Arthur everytime
@factotum75 exactly! I heard it today love this song
Thanks very much for sharing this.
You're welcome, Steve.
My favorite too. I have all seasons of Golden Girls on DVD. Can someone tell me what season it was so I can listen to Bea Arthur sing it again.
I totally agree.
Like if Bea Arthur singing this song on The Golden Girls brought you here! :)
Simply knew it all my life...
When this song comes on, I think of David Rakoff. :'( Wow...
Emma Cat Oh my gosh Emma!!! That's why I'm here, David Rakoff! I was listening to This American Life today and the episode this week was remembering David on the 5th anniversary of his death. They played this song at the end, it's beautiful!! Was this David's favorite song? I love listening to his stories.
The great singer and musician the world ever have.
Have you heard Frank Sinatra's versions?
That's not silly at all. I actually prefer the B. Arthur's version of this song because she seem to have put so much emotion into it.
Sitting under the Cherry blossoms on a lazy spring evening with the love of your life.
It's hard to imagine a version of this song that could be any better. What an amazing gift brother Nat had, and what a wonder gift he was to music.
it brings so many happy memories and yet it's so sad now....
Sounds like 4/4 to me, played exquisitely slowly.
You mean Jeff Beck sounds like Oscar Moore! ;)
This song makes my heart melt. Sigh....
Wow...Oscar Moore, this solo sounds a lot like Jeff Beck's work on Stevie Wonder's Looking for Another Pure Love.
This makes me think of Gatsby and Daisy... :'( I miss Gatsby... :'( -E-Cat.
I guess two people already know what they'll do.
Frank Sinatra also did some wonderful recordings of this Irving Berlin classic.
Just saw a ballet adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" and Gatsby danced to this song. It was pure magic. Love this song! :)
This song was played when David Rakoff told the story of his life on "This American Life". The whole story, plus this song really worked with him. -E-Cat.
I've listened to every version of this great song, and I'll have to say that Nat King Cole's version is the best.
Does anyone know what the time signature he is using is?
David Rakoff's dance along with this song was a great combination.
You'll be missed.
Great post.
Like many of the greats, Nat "King" Cole's purpose in life was to help "tame" mankind. And I'm glad I was around to listen and witness.
A stunning ballad - the warm strummings of the guitar perfectly compliments the delicate piano and Nat's creamy voice. Just incredible.
this may be the best song ive ever heard... NAT KING COLE is so very awesome.!!!
@honeybee7700 niet een jaar geleden hahaha
Nat was the only one who could make such a slow tempo swing. Outstanding delivery of this unknown novelty.
Tnx a bunch for posting.
One of my favorites from before my time. I loved it when Bea Arthur sang it on the Golden Girls. Silly, I know . . . but what a great song.
this was recorded the day I was born.
my absolute favourite version of this classic wonder...
@Mamadant What did you think of it?
It wouldn't let me play the first version, but I also looked at the version that was What'll I do '47 (Frank Sinatra)
@Mamadant I will upload the 2 Sinatra versions.
Thanks for the information. I love Frank, too!
@Mamadant Frank Sinatra also did a wonderful version of this song.
This was wonderful -- and I've never heard this version of this song. I melted!
This trio is the house band in Heaven......
this song has been haunting me for weeks now...i love this version
Beautiful Music
Thanks
Class always wins
Love it. This song has been in my head for days now. I love the lyrics, sad but beautiful. I like Nat's version the most. 5 stars * * * * *
