Nat King Cole - The Girl From Ipanema Lyrics
Tall and tan
And young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema
Goes walking
And when she passes
Oooh
When she walks
She's like a samba
That swings so cool
And sways so gentle
That when she passes
Each one she passes goes
Oooh
Oh
But I watch her so sadly
I love her?
Yes
I would give
My heart gladly
But each day
When she walks
To the sea
She looks
Straight ahead
Not at me
Tall and tan
And young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema
Goes walking
And when she passes
I smile
But she doesn't see
(Ooh)
Oh
But I watch her
So sadly
How can I tell her
I love her?
Yes
I would give
My heart gladly
But each day
When she walks
To the sea
She looks
Straight ahead
Not at me
Tall and tan
And young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema
Goes walking
And when she passes
I smile
But she doesn't see
And when she passes
I smile
But she doesn't see
She doesn't
She doesn't
She doesn't see

Better than Sinatra.
This is my favorite, but check out Steve Lawrence's rendition as well :)
A God among men and now a God among gods
This version is heavenly...RIP Nate King Cole...
4 non foot tapping individuals don’t like this.
What an angel
Better than the Frank Sinatra version.

The man with the velvet voice perfect timing never out of tune
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes
Goes "a-a-a-h"
When she walks she's like a samba
When she walks, she's like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle
That when she passes, each one she passes
Goes "a-a-a-h"

SHEER CLASS!
this song can only be a samba...still nkc does a great version.
Mr. Nat King Cole for all y'all youngsters who don't understand class and talent..
One of the top five greatest male vocalists of all time. Funny thing, when he started he didn't think of himself as a singer.
Hard to believe.
He was dead from lung cancer less than 3 months after recording this. He does sound a little huskier than on his 40's and 50's recordings.
Classy voice. One of the best singers I ever heard.
Yup am now 48yrs old and I love the many versions of this beautiful classic such as Frank Sinatra's, Lou Rawl's, Ella Fitzgerald's..but there's just that tenderness in every song that Nat touches love love it.
WHEN I WAS ABOUT 12YEARS OLD I FOUND THIS SONG IN MY MOTHER'S COLLECTION OF RECORDS. I PLAYED IT OUT IF CURIOSITY AND I WAS INSTANTLY A NAT KING COLE FAN. I'M 48YEARS OLD NOW AND I STILL LOVE IT. GREAT EASY LISTENING.
I' partial to Frank Sinatra's version, but Nat King Cole has a nice way with it too.
+FrankTribute I prefer Tom Jobim's original version called "Garota de Ipanema"
I agree: Jobim's original version is the DEFINITIVE version.
The best version of this song was done by Nancy Kulp.
If you honestly believe that, then: (a) you've not heard the original version by Tom Jobim, or (b) you're tone deaf and are in serious need of a hearing aid.
