Nash, Graham - Be Yourself Lyrics
How does it feel
When life doesn't seem real
And you're floating about on your own
Your life is uncertain
So you draw the curtain
But don't theorize
Look in your eyes
They can't tell lies
Though you disguise what you see
The mirror is free
But we once had a savior
But by our behavior
The one that was worth it is gone
And the runners are walking
A prodigal son is coming home
And don't theorize
Look in his eyes
They won't tell lies
But if he defies what you see
He'll give you the key
Be yourself
Be yourself
Be yourself
Be yourself
We needed a tutor
So built a computer
And we programmed ourselves not to see
The truth and the lying
The dead and the dying
A silent majority
But don't theorize
Look in their eyes
Are they telling lies
The ones that they learned on TV
What a way to be free
Be yourself
Be yourself
Free yourself
Free yourself
See yourself
See yourself
Then you can free yourself
Be yourself
Be yourself

Nash, Graham Be Yourself Comments
Who is he
You mean, who's Graham Nash ? One of the best song and text writers of the 70's. Listen to the lyrics, they should speak to everyone, young of his time and young of today.
This was co-written by Terry Reid
Graham Nash — vocals; guitar
Rita Coolidge — piano; electric piano
Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels — bass
Johnny Barbata — drums
March 12, 2019. A Message For Our Times...I Am A Born Again Christian! [JOHN 3:3] Study The BIBLE...GODS Prophecies Are 100% Accurate, And, Literally Coming To Pass Right Before Our Very Eyes!!! My "END OF THE AGE" Prophecy Research Discoveries Were REVEALED TO ME Through A Worldwide Biblical Scholars Consensus. Yeah! You Criticize, But, Can You Actually Verify "ONE" End Times Prophecy That Came To Pass??? I Doubt It. [HOSEA 4:6] My Intentions are ONLY To WARN!
Listen to Cathedral by GN, buddy...
Thank-you.
"Up" anyone? Great advice, good song.
I love you Graham, always will! 🍃
If the lyrics of this song don't at the very least cause you to look at yourself & the world around you, you must be dead inside.
Welp I guess I have no soul
I inherited this record from my father, but he didn't take care of his records and it's scratched all to hell...so I think I'm gonna have to buy a new one.
Dan Finnegan I also inherited this from my father, mint condition original press
A gem
I also have known about graham nash only through the song better days, from an influential skaternamed dylan rieder part... he unfortunately passed away at a young age but left an amazing impact in the culture of skate and fashion! Cheers enjoy your new record G
how does it feel when life doesn't seem real
Well I for one resemble that bunch of hippy crap theology and it was a pretty nice time to be young.... and the same government bullshit was happening then too so you are not unique breezebro. Just enjoy the music :)
"The stars will wheel forth from their daytime hiding places; and one of those lights, slightly brighter than the rest, will be my wingtip passing over."
Nice tune dude thank you and fuck the negative comments
@chrisfilms84 I hope you are having a good night
Well... it's only 2:30 pm here, so.
Of I'm sorry dude it's 10.30pm here
That's cool. No biggie... I appreciate the enjoy you've derived from the share.
@chrisfilms84 I subscribed to you
A bunch of hippy crap theology. See yourself so you can be yourself, total peace-nick crap ideology.
+breezebro - you said this was crap hippy theology, there's no theology to it, it's his ideology you have issue with, so i offered you a set of lines from this song, the part of my comment in quotation marks are a quote from this song you are commenting on, and they aren't crap - you even say yourself you don't have tv and cable, so see, you already agree with him on something
The song's lyrics are perfect. They were perfect when Nash recorded the song back when and they are pretty much spot on for now. You can keep holding up that crystal to the light Breezebro... but the truth is that hate, greed, militarism, conservatism...ism, ism, ism isn't working either. Almost a year since I wrote my first comment... and nothing has changed except more war, more poverty, more lawlessness from all quarters. The rich get rich and the poor die.
Happy New Year!
@Bj Caracciolo
Yeah, it makes for a pretty good song, it's just wrong.
Just like Lennon's Imagine, sounds great, wrong as hell.
breezebro And what do you have?
Not sure what is hippy theology about not following the crowd and not listening to the superficial lies in media and a commercial world....being real, getting authentic, not being sheep is timeless....
Excellent
9 people want to be somebody else
the best bit of advice you could give anybody
or the worst in some cases
Keep in mind, to be yourself you need to know your self. Found this word of wisdom in Paul Greene's A Time of Change.
Be yourself, always! It's the best way.
u have this in vinal ah?
Huge fave...among all the rest on this LP and those times....
Great !!!
It's very hard for me to be myself when it is to impress others.
gosh its 1971 in my bedroom , with my blk light posters , chillin listenin to this album when i listn to this song.
1971."Songs for Beginners" launched a romantic dream for a young couple in a magical street in a seaport in the State of Maine.
1972, those two people share lives with different people, but continue to be part of each others lives, and never, ever, forget the impact "Songs for Beginners' had, and has, on their lives. Thank you, Mr. Nash; Thank you, Mrs. O'Malley~!~
I love this!
Is it just me or did David Bowie listen to this a few times as well??? ;)
Same Here! I DID buy a new album, same with David's" if only i could remember my name" album, wore them both out a few times
Thank you are no Words except Crosby, Stills, and Young - Graham Nash Thank you:).>
I have this album. the vinyl is in perfect condition & so is the album cover, but I can't see a copyright date. Anyone know what year this was released? Very early 70's maybe? Like 70 or 71? ya think? ♫ ♥r
This is even better than classical music or any kind of music (I too played this album till it got all scratched and like a pancake stay in the sun a bit to long)
@annepeteie
Mine got lost!! and I didn't have a crush on Mr Graham Nash but I do admire him big time
Cheers on your your big crush
my girlfriend brought me here
@kkdiddyify I agree, Be Yourself, because that is who you are.
Always loved this album. All my vinyl got stolen in '87, but I am replacing much of it (what I can find) on cd, as I no longer have a turntable. Thanks for posting!
Very respected album.. tooo bad these guys still feel they need to be 60's activist...
This is one very honest song
When my son graduated from law school, I dedicated this song to him. I hope he understands.
@mark1952able This song in specific has some of the best lyrics ever written if you ask me! My favorite version is the demo version found on the UP IN THE AIR soundtrack, and the newest CSN (and my favorite) DEMOS
Graham was w a y beyond his time! He understood the present and future ...........To me , one of the best songs ever written!..............
Another one of those rock and roll waltz songs.
@cowboybebobb I'm also searching for "Oh Camil". I hope someone can upload it soon.
this guy is a genius songs for beginners is a great album one which can be listened to all the way to the end class...nuff said!!
Musica realmente inspirada y con un mensaje muy motivador y real, bueno acorde a sus tiempos, pero con mensaje, es para disfrutarse, recordar y tomarse mucho en cuenta!!
this album helped me through a lot of trying times in my life....
"We needed a chooser, so we built a computer, and programmed ourselves not to see." Very prophetic for 1971.... Love ya Graham Nash!!!!!! Does anyone have "Oh Camil" off of "Wild tales"?
I too love those lyrics. Very profound
However, I have recently come to learn the the word is “tutor” not “chooser” which in a way is even more sad because it implies we wanted to get smarter but didn’t...
Treinta y cinco años sin oir esta canción!!!! LA AMO !!!!!
I have the album also. Excellent!!!!
great song from back in the day...I owned this album ~♫(Songs for beginners)♪♫
great song from up in the air!
