Nas was very accurate at this point in time. Gangsta rap which dominated the pinnacle/peak era of hiphop in the 90s at this point was OVER. 3 years after Get Rich or Die Tryin and before Kanye was truly at his prime, hiphop was stuck with subpar artists and one hit wonders like Petey Pablo and Dem Franchise Boyz even Jeezy you could argue. Just shitty lyrical artists which predicted the future of hiphop more based around production and not lyrics.

It had a resurgence again when Jay Z/Kanye/Rihanna dominated and then completely transitioned into trap music and into melodic hiphop that dominates now in a post 808 & Heartbreaks landscape. There are some exceptions in there like Kendrick, Cole etc. but they are definitely not gangsta rap just more about lyricism which is still the exception today.

Sad thing is. It is. Because of the music today. Rap isn't rap anymore, cause to the generation that I grew up in (its the 2000s) I didn't rlly hear that much hip hop. Rappers these days rely on money, females, cars, drugs and other crazy things. Rap stands for rhymes and poems. So it's not really rap. But at least they creative. I give props to them for being creative with the beats. And no I'm not a old head. Just say rap died out. Use to exist. Is still good but not alive.
