Nancy Sinatra - Sand Lyrics

Young woman share your fire with me
My heart is cold, my soul is free
I am a stranger in your land
A wandering man, call me sand

Oh sir my fire is very small
It will not warm thy heart at all
But thee may take me by the hand
Hold me and I'll call thee sand

Young woman share your fire with me
My heart is cold, my soul is free
I am a stranger in your land
A wandering man, call me sand

At night when stars light up the sky
Oh sir I dream my fire is high
Oh taste these lips sir if you can
Wandering man, I call thee sand

Oh sir my fire is burning high
If it should stop sir I would die
A shooting star has crossed my land
Wandering man

She whispered sand

[Whispers] Sand

Young woman shared her fire with me
Now warms herself with memory
I was a stranger in her land
A wandering man, she called me sand

He was a stranger in my land
A wandering man

She called me sand

This is one of the stupidest songs I have ever heard in my life!

That doesn't stop me from liking it, though

I have, but I'm not sure how that's relevant.

@quasarsphere Then I have no words.

    q.... ....

@Yal Bad Of course I did! It had all the subtlety of the Tsar Bomba!

I just think the song is very very silly.

    q.... ....

    @Yal Bad
It would be a much less silly song without the failed attempt at archaic English.

I'm always confused by the negative comments on classic songs like this... how did you even get here if you didn't like the song to begin with and also fuck you, this song is great.

This is one of my all time favourite albums. I too grew up listening to this as it belongs to my dad. The music is so well put together..the lyrics are beautiful and I adore Nancy's voice. A classic in the truest sense.

  11. c.... l....

I am getting on now. I remember the Summer of Love and all the psychedelic stuff that came out at the time. Most of it a bit phony now when you look back. Then this album came up on vinyl in 1968 with this song and Summer Wine and some other good stuff on it. Looking back it was a masterpiece. I still play it after all these years. You get so much out of the material and the messages in it. Lee wrote a lot of stuff earlier for the great Duane Eddy. Nancy Sinatra did not feature that much in Britain apart from her mainstream hits but again looking back she had a memorable voice. Her live version of Bang Bang is another masterpiece

    c.... l....

Absolutely! Much, much better than the Cher version.

I bought this album at a time in my life when I was confused about a lot of things. Their music helped me get through and here I am 46 years later enjoying my life and still listening to this great album.💛💚💙💜

  14. D.... ....

I love the little chaotic interlude in the middle, adds something to it which makes me like it more than the original version. Very velvet underground for a quick second...abrasive noise intermixed with beautiful melody. That combination always does it for me, those two contrasting aspects played at once is heaven.

  15. .... ....

Happy Birthday to Nancy Sinatra !

  16. J.... A....

  32. N.... J....

    I loved this album!

  33. E.... W....

The album 'NANCY & LEE" was so well done in so many different ways. The tragedy (to me) is that Lee Hazelwood died without ever receiving the recognition he so richly deserved for a catalogue of music that spanned 35+ years.. Not only did he write & produce almost all of Nancy's music, I believe he managed her for quite a while. One could fairly say he was the reason for her musical success.  Also, it should be know that he discovered Duane Eddy, wrote and produced many of his early hits.

    E.... W....

When I was met to Hazlewwod´s music, I had been listening only his musics by 6 months....... a genius.

    E.... W....

Certainly a top talent Lee, overlooked here in the UK

    E.... W....

Not to mention the Jesus and Mary Chain

    E.... W....

Don't miss The cowboy & the lady album he did w/ Ann Margaret. That album is straight fire and sadly one of his lesser know outings. Plus he did 2 singles w/ her too that are also great.

Fun fact: Lee Hazlewood and Roger Miller lived together for a while in the 60's.

    E.... W....

    Nick cave is a fraud.

My dad had this album also I loved it and am so glad to have found it on here.lol

  45. a.... ....

Just like to listen to the music, no video necessary!

  46. T.... ....

Hazlewood's appearance very much reminded a beaver although his voice was so very, very male. It is a question, what prefered Nancy? A beaver moustache or the voice?

    T.... ....

    I imagine,the royalty checks.Duh.

  54. b.... ....

Great song and well sung by both.

  55. S.... ....

Omigosh, Einstürzende Neubauten's cover of this song gave me goosebumps in the 80s and was the only version I'd ever heard. The original sounds much less ominous and is quite mesmerizing. Thanks for ending a 20-year search!

@licor007 you might be right there..and i knew wat you meant re; EN. thanks for the info.

  70. l.... ....

@z1rakz1gal somewhere in an interview with Blixa I read, that they never took heroin (I mean members of Neubauten), they were usually either wasted or on MDMA and similar shit, Nick Cave took heroin

  71. A.... ....

@z1rakz1gal The sexual part is when she says that her fire is burning high.

  72. A.... ....

    @z1rakz1gal Not necessarily so.

I always thought "Some Velvet Morning" was someone relating a story from the past. It is not as sexual as "Sand."

"Sand" tells the old story of the nomadic man meeting a woman in a settled community. The sexual connotations are very strong, but "land" is what he means at first. He uses the accent of the Old West. He refers to "your fire" which means he came in from outside.

    A.... ....

    SHE called me Captain....Manly beach....around 2000

  73. b.... ....

@licor007 Me too! Always loved their minimal take on this. Blixa's vocal is wonderful.

  74. b.... e....

@Albacorewing yeah u gotta ask the question..it was the 60's so ya cant say 'get on my dick' or some similar idiocy, but im a stranger in your pants might be more accurate. certainly shines new light on 'some velvet morning when im str8- im gonna open up yr gate' i think we both know to which 'gate' he refers.

  75. b.... e....

@XXmello42 blixa will have you for that! and anyway the only thing they have together nowadays- is history! sad though it is. (i would have said they have had heroin in common but that far too boring)

  76. l.... ....

@XXmello42 that would be so fucking cool ! :D

  77. G.... P....

hypnotic melody with mysterious lyrics. Lee and nancy are like a musical cream and coffee, just waiting to join forces.

  81. l.... ....

    Einsturzende Neubauten brought me here

  82. A.... ....

I love Lee's old Western accent when he says "I am a stranger in your land..." and Nancy's feminine voice.

  83. A.... ....

@quaxk I know you can get it on Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood Fairytales & Fantasies.

  84. q.... ....

what album is this from, originally?

  85. T.... ....

@thetimelesswonders The song also appeared on the LP, "Nancy and Lee ( the cover of which appears above in the posted video) ", only the stereo channel separation was switched! I used to own both of the recordings. The records were sold at a yard sale years ago, but I had always wanted to have better copies of Nancy and Lee's music... I now own seven different Nancy Sinatra CDs in my collection!

  86. l.... ....

get these too together and you've got magic, simply brilliant.

  87. D.... O....

@playgirlc hi she lores him in drugs him and steals his spurs and money

  88. j.... w....

how can you dislike this!!! Lee had the greatest baritone voices RIP he wrote some great songs also for Duane Eddy

  89. G.... R....

These two were the greatest in the late '60s, just back from Nam, 'Summer Wine', Sand, 'SomeVelvetMorning' are the best. Establishing a life direction after the war had ripped dreams from me. 4-24-11.

  90. p.... ....

@CsyraVampireHeart - just sounds like a one-night stand or brief affair to me.... but then i've only heard it once, so i might change my mind...

  91. p.... ....

@CsyraVampireHeart - just sounds like a one-night stand or brief affair to me.... but then i've only heard it once, so i might change my mind...

  92. e.... ....

I can't believe how many people know (and love) the EN cover. This is the song that introduced me to EN back in the 80s, and I've loved them ever since. I was happy to finally get around to first hearing the original track about 11 years ago. Its been a great song for a very long time.

  93. z.... ....
