My Bloody Valentine - Map Ref 41°n 93°w Lyrics
An unseen ruler defines with geometry
An unrulable expanse of geography
An aerial photographer over-exposed
To the cartologist's 2D images knows
The areas where the water flowed
Straining eyes try to understand
The works, incessantly in hand
The carving and the pairing of the land
The quarter square, the graph divides
Beneath the rule a country hides
Interrupting my train of thought
Lines of longitude and latitude
Define and refine my altitude [x2]
Harness fitted, no escape
Common and peaceful, duck, flat, lowland
Landscape, canal, canard, water coloured
Crystal palaces for floral kings
A widespread waving span of wings
Witness the sinking of the sun
A deep breath of submission has begun
Interrupting my train of thought
Lines of longitude and latitude
Define and refine my altitude [x5]...

One of the cover versions of the 20th century, shatteringly good
LOVE IT!
Love it! A favorite band. Controlled Tension Rock Rules!
I had no idea this existed,I love these bands.
Thank you!
"interrupting my train with fortnite"
i love it much more than original, i'm sorry but chorus here is unforgettable for me. am I the only who likes cover more than original?
YOU’RE TELLING ME THIS ACTUALLT HAPPENED
I'm not sure I enjoyed Up With People's shoegaze period.
This is such a fucking fantastic cover of an already great song. I swear it's like everything mbv touches is gold. Of course I wish they'd taken a crack at a few other covers back in the day.
0:19 realise its fucking awful
BEST SUMMER JAM OF 2019.
I'm a huge Wire fan and this is a pretty good cover. Love the heavy fuzz.
I think Wire's original version is still better but what do I know.
where is the smug CHORUS announcement
Kecksohn so glad that’s gone 😂
@Deely Stan best part smh, Kanye used that 40 years later
Timeless classic,full of magic!!!
Youth,divine treasure.
Chorus?
this cover introduced me to my new favorite wire song (also this is a good take on it)
The Wire: best pop band ever.
Thank you again*My Bloody Valentine* I adore all your music. Seems like 4 ever now. I had no idea you made a comeback. Ta-
* Wire* always makes me laugh with *CHORUS* 79 all the way!
Pure joy every time I hear this version * Kevin Shields* straight back from Mars after covering this master. Cheers
my favourite wire song
Thank you * My Bloody Valentine * I have loved you forever now!'
Every song hits my soul in a no words way.
Art at its finest! Innovators here.
* Kevin Shields* a old beautiful soul. All of you.
The dynamic of this band defies my altitude.
Ty also to *Niiiiiiiiiiiick* for posting. I love * Wire* too since 1979. Bless you all. Ciao
Que versão!
This Is fucking bliss of joy
Ok, so it’s a decent cover... but sorry. This doesn’t touch the original.
Brewzerr
They are both good, no one cares which one you like better. A lot of people like this one better. Your opinion is not a fact.
whoah!!! damn!!! I love the original and never knew of this cover.
This rendition is so lush, I can't stand it <3
no, this version is Lush https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACRvJLtIdCQ
It is amazing...so much lush!
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=0100101gucci01001001verona+song+n+93 @V@
If there's one thing MBV does elegantly is to make original songs gayer. Love their originals; hate it when they slaughter others' originals.
2:03 is pure bliss
I prefer the original but this is such a brilliant cover!!! As splendid as the original.
Stare at the floor too long, and the coordinates of that location will stare back at you.
The view from 41N 93W, or at least the nearest spot on Google Streetview...
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@41.0064241,-93.0061416,3a,75y,131.09h,90.94t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1srUffbYxQ3d75SysulzXZqA!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DrUffbYxQ3d75SysulzXZqA%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D169.28856%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656
this is ridicoulously good!
Hell na...original much better. This has no kick.
Yep. No one is ever going to be able to improve upon Wire, but it’s a valiant effort.
Of course the original is better but this one is an excellent cover with the added element of an angelic female voice.
I don't know what those guitars are, but they are fucking incredible.
It's the Lovetone that's doing that.
Brilliant cover of a brilliant song by a brilliant band. Very few bands could have done this.
It is a great cover version!
I never thought I'd hear a band cover a wire song and not butcher it, These guys have done brilliant job of covering and personalizing without ruin. Top bananas cover.
i would sell everything i own to be in room with MBV covering fucking Wire...
senda rolaaa, tremendo cover<3
lindíssimo!!!
Straight into my favs list.
Amo el ruido gracias a estos tipos
for all mbv's effex i miss wire's phased chorus. and why didn't colm play on this?? amazing bilinda my love
why? their song still exists
Definitive cover. My bloody valentine surpasses the boundaries of the original. The wall of sound created by Kevin Shields is simply awesome. The angelical voice of Bilinda Butcher too. Simply amazing. My bloody valentine=revolution in pop culture music.
"surpasses" lol
well put sizone
Raul Anton "surpasses the original"? PFFF! Yeah, if you're off your meds it might seem that way! NOTHING "surpasses" WIRE's astounding original. This one is OK as versions go.... way better than Lush's version of "Outdoor Miner" for instance, but it's nowhere near the hallucinatory brilliance of the original.
Whoa... take it down a notch, ace. This is a good attempt at covering what is basically an uncoverable band, but “surpasses The boundaries of the original” is stretching things WAY beyond the truth. It’s a decent cover. Just leave it at that.
I will say it's as good as the original, but for different reasons. MBV really made it their own so it doesn't even feel like a cover. And even so I can't bring myself to say it's better. Wire and My Bloody Valentine are both in my top 10 favorite bands though so it's hard to say
magnifico.
Map Ref. 41N 93W MBV version of Wire sound.... brilliant!!!
Reminds me of Stereolab, with that plodding hypnotic pace..
heck yeah
motorik-esque
stereolab meets the cowsills
no need to be a dick. plus stereolab is sick and if you like mbv youd probably like them
Stereolab is awesome
such a nice xmas present for myself... finding this piece of art
Map Ref. 41N 93W is... Centerville, Iowa???
i've been reading about this spot since this song popped in my head and you're the first person i've seen make that reference, thank you.. that's all i've been thinking. churches... churches...
Looked it up before the web was invented when I first heard this track :)
never knew about the Zappa ref tho, wow!
Supposedly Colin Newman was inspired to write this while flying over Iowa and seeing the tessellated farmland
The center. This song rules both ways.
Never knew about this cover and they nailed it. Not an easy one to pull off. Especially the chorus.
astnishing, isn't it.
CHORUS!
@Ryan Denziloe chorus, chorus,chorus!!!
this rules so hard
interrupting my train of thoughs ... lines ...
never knew
Chorus!
How did you get this? In which album is this song included?
I believe it's on an album called WHORE which is a tribute album to the band WIRE featuring many different bands covering Wire songs.
+Lou Bourbon JR that' right! Discogs has a page about the album
You want dollars babe ?
I adore Wire and enjoy MBV but this cover is really weak.
vaguelyhuman you’re weak
one of my favorite bands covers one of my favorite songs by another of my favorite bands.
This is one of the only MBV tracks with their classic "Loveless" sounds where the singing is really clear and even actually quite emotional!
lol, so true.
You are so wrong and stupid for saying that
one of my favorite wire tracks. & it's not even one of my favorite mbv tracks.
This can be found in FLAC on malaysia bay
They didn't say 'chorus' before the first chorus, way to kill the original.
dumbass
thanks for the upload!!!!
At least it has an official release, though. It's from a wire compilation. The album is on amazon for close to thirty dollars, and it has some other cool songs on there too, I'm thinking about getting it.
holy shit, when did they do this??
Dang... Too bad this is just a cover. I thought it was an original by My Bloody Valentine. I was really hoping it would be on their recent 2013 MBV album. Oh well, I still like it. Just wish the sound quality was way better.
you should check out WIRE if you haven't done so in the 5 years since this comment was posted
I have to agree. I like this cover, but I LOVE the original. While I like the sonic space the cover creates, I prefer Colin's vocal delivery and the ebb and flow of the energy in that song, as opposed to the more hypnotic drive of this one. But good cover, and classic MBV sound.
what a fuckin joke!!
Brave attempt, check the map,the epic original is just too mountainous to cover; especialy with wobbly legs....
Great cover. I wish they actually made that Wire tribute album, because Wire's one of my favourite bands.
This version is stellar! I love MBV. Thanks for posting!
"The stone roses hold the mantle as greatest uk band"
Holy fucking shit. Are you serious? In which case, I feel sorry for you.
not the best manchester band, not the best uk band
@Neil Wilson James Arthur?
MBV aren't UK
@Santiago Vasquez how aren't they? dublin and london? or am i wrong?
I love the roses are red but MBV slays them always.
I hope MBV's "new" music...if it ever comes out, sounds like this. Really catchy melodies, with the noise over the top.
howd that work out for you
@sizone lol
cover meravigliosa!!!!
Belinda's harmonies...
Chooglin'! So beautiful! A perfect song!
sorry, I'm not a fan of the fuzzy overproduced vocals. Like Colin better he gives more punch in a single vocal and his inherent sarcasm is what drives Wire for me, early Wire anyway. Still, I'm a fan of covers and this is awesome.
Thanks for posting this, I really like MBV, and I never heard this song. Thanks again for justifying YT. :)
wow. i want my guitar plugged on that meatball effects
check out Ladytron by Roxy Music, if you cant find the original Old Grey Whistle Test video which was pulled. Serious Phil Manzanera meatball (and cheeseball...) on that one.
How could anyone dislike this?
should of read further....thanks for the post niiiiiiiiiiiiick...
I've listened to this at least 5 times a day for about a week, thanks so much for uploading.
great band, great song, interesting cover, but nowhere near as great as the original. thanks for uploading,...I always wanted to hear this rare track
wow. i'm so happy to discover this ! thanks for uploading it ! Wire & MBV are easily two of my top 5 fave bands.
Heard this when it came out on KXLU, in Los Angeles. Bought it on the trib comp (which has got some good ones on it.) Big time favorite. Thanks for posting!!!!
@Boudosaved Ha! Me, too! First time I heard Loveless (via *cough* Napster *cough*), I thought I had gotten a bad rip from a warbling cassette. Only then I bought the CD, and it was the same. :) Nevertheless, it turned out to become one of my two favorite albums of all time (Pet Sounds being the other). Now, this cover is signature MBV, but I'm not sold on it. It's a bit too emotionally detached and even throughout. I prefer Wire's version which has a bit more character and heart in it.
The rare cover that improves upon the original. Though Wire has them beat as far as pure inventiveness (MBV is basically a great pop group with a few neat production tricks) but Butcher/Shields have vocals better suited to this than Newman's, shall we say, whine. Of course, that whine pushes a number of Wire songs into the greatness category. Great bands both
@rifkijohngm check out Loveless. In top 5 albums of the 90s (pitchfork put it at #1 for a while... then a dispite ensued... or was it trouser press... vs OK computer)
I totally thought my CD was warped, also-- they gave me another copy at Virgin Megastorez that sounded the same, so I shut up and just listened (for the past 20-odd years).., their unique sound slowly grows on you =)
When I first bought Loveless in the 90s I thought my CD was warped. Little did I know...
thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
My God this is good. Those MBV vocals make anything sound like a dream.
similar guitar sound to Roxy Music's Ladytron: watch?v=zVeEBMJt8vs#t=3m40s
that video is lost to time, here's a newer better and still complete copy of this gem of Roxy Music on OldGreyWhistleTest with Phil Manzanerra on the Meatball
