The (word and) title of the song, Undermine, means (according to a dictionary) to subvert or weaken insidiously. I feel she is basically saying it is much easier to be mean or toxic than to be nice or be positive. "It's a whole lot harder to shine, than undermine". I really like Kacey's song writing prowess because her messages are subtle, but they make you think.

One of the greatest songwriters of all time across any genre.

That's a damn good question I just seen her with Harry Styles their tour wrapped up last week in Los Angeles I seen her in Saint Paul Minnesota got all her albums she's brilliant yes put this darn girl on the radio more and more and more and more#kaceysparkles.....

She’s banned from country radio because of “Follow Your Arrow” and she doesn’t like to do favors for radio programmers, which is needed to get played.

@Annabelle Sargent Yes they do, but the song on Nashville are most times songs by other country artists :) So basically Nashville covered the song, its originally done by Kacey - Correct me if Im wrong

This sounds best from the mouth of the one who wrote it. It's such a powerful song that hit me so hard when I first heard it. It doesn't surprise me that it was her that had a hand in writing it.

I love both versions Juliet and deacons version is great but no one can top Kacey Musgraves

Music is a gift.
Give up the hate. Comparisons are dumb. Everybody has its own tastes.
I love Haydens & Charles version. It has some Johnny Cash/Chris Isaak subtles rock "dark" spots, as the lyrics indicates "disappointment, sorrow".

Kacey´s version is lighter, almost like a sunshine. It shows some amazing and intricated guitar chords and fingering. Its beautiful!

it is refreshing to hear songs that have feeling like this one and many others from Kacey i like her older stuff myself she is going to go far in country music. 

I love her older stuff to and her acoustics more than all of them, but still love them all.

I thought the Nashville writers wrote this? Kacey's version is way better than Juliette Barnes.  

The Nashville writers, only write the stories for the show. The show seeks out actually songwriters who already have written songs. But there are some songwriters who write songs for the show with a storyline in mind. Like the song Black Rose was written for the show by a songwriter from LA. Hope that helps understand a little bit of how they get songs on the show. :)
