Murray, Anne - Feed This Fire Lyrics

It might be you, it might be me
It might be only one to agree
But I could swear
It's getting colder in this room

We just don't seem to care to touch
We just don't want to share that much
But, darling, every fire needs something
To come soon

We've got to feed this fire
We've got to fan this flame
If this love burns out
We've got ourselves to blame

We've got to stoke these coal
Until they glow red hot
We've got to feed this fire
With everything we've got

Have you forgotten about the snow?
How hard that winter wind could blow?
Back when our cold and hungry hearts
Were on the street

So let us swear then, you and I
To never let this fire die
Until these hearts have turned to ashes
In the heat

We've got to feed this fire
We've got to fan this flame
If this love burns out
We've got ourselves to blame

We've got to stoke these coal
Until they glow red hot
We've got to feed this fire
With everything we've got

We've got to feed this fire
We've got to fan this flame
If this love burns out
We've got ourselves to blame

We've got to stoke these coal
Until they glow red hot
We've got to feed this fire
With everything we've got
We've got to feed this fire
With everything we've got

I have this album! It's the only one by her that I have,m but I love this song. Thanks for posting it.

"Mason Dixon" had this song recorded and ready to release before getting chopped by Tony Brown of Capitol Records.
Then Anne picked it up and the rest is history.

Took it all the way to #4 on the Billboard country singles chart on 11-10-1990. Should have hit #1 and I thought it was going to, but Holly Dunn's "You Really Had Me Going" passed her up. Holly Dunn was hit and miss. One of my favorites from Anne Murray. I'm sure this hit #1 on the Canadian Billboard country singles chart.

I thought this song was a shoe in for #1 for Anne Murray, since it debuted in the top30 on American Country Countdown in the late summer of 1990 and flew up the charts. Holly Dunn's "You Really Had Me Going" and Don Williams "Back In My Younger Days" blocked it from going #1.  I agree with claude. "Feed This Fire" should have gone #1 on the country charts. Went #1 on Billboards AC chart in 1991. Thanks for uploading this classic.

1990 the end of her career? she only retired in 2009. Her 1999 album What a Wonderful world sold millions. Duets, Friends & Legends from 2008 sold 300,000 copies in a few months in Canada. That being said, this is an awesome tune. Shoulda gone to number 1!
