I believe the Italian voice popping up here and there might be a youthful Tinto Brass, infamous director of risqué (and then almost pornographic) movies. It might have been sampled from some old interview... either that or Roisin has some interesting friends!

This song is as close to perfection as I think I will ever get.

I just saw Roisin in SF and it was so loud she was drown out by the instrumentation. Very disappointing when you can't make out a word. All due respect to this woman's wonderful music. The show flopped :-(

Still gives me that same feeling as when I first heard it on headphones in a park in Thailand last May. Played it so loud and just let the tears steam down my face for no reason at all. Just pure emotion. Thank you Róisín. Come back to NYC!!!! We adore you.

Very intricate and seemingly indecipherable video. From 2:55 and onward I really feel the video syncs with the lyrics, music and voice over. It's very beautiful. For those of you who might feel the video is too abstract, I can point you to a couple of areas of interest; modern German and Italian cinema (50's-80's) are especially evident as heavy influences. The song itself is about the correlation between literature and human interaction (in very broad terms). Therefor the video might also be drawing on specific characters from European literature as well, although this might be too much of an assumption on my part.
The video is still very cinematic in its composition and thematic material though. See for example the structural effect of the very first sequence and the very last; These revolve around the camera being present, as well as the time stamp included above when the camera comes into focus, and the thing our female lead whispers in the ear of the camera operator (or literal film maker) - whereas the inner projection of the image is evoked and the circle completed when added to the lyrics of reading someone's mind (in which the film, in this meta-structure, is also being reviewed in both German AND Italian).
I myself see two very specific sources for inspiration: the cinema of Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Federico Fellini. I hope that might serve as inspiration - because these directors are definitely worth the trouble of making the acquaintance :)
