Murphy, David Lee - Tryin' To Get There Lyrics
Well I’ve been up on the high road
Spent some time on the low road
Seen a little bit of it all if you know what I mean
From pickup trucks to limousines
Yeah I’ve made some turns Lord that took me out of the way
Tryin’ to get there
Sometimes that ain’t easy
When you really don’t know where that is
But I’ve learned along the way
That we’re all lookin’ for the same thing
And I’m tryin’ to get there oh the best I can
Growin’ up’s been tough on me
I still don’t know what I wanna be
There’s times I need a helping hand
‘Cause I’ll take the long way to find the short way round
And just like everybody I’m tryin’ to reach a higher ground but I’m
Tryin’ to get there
Sometimes that ain’t easy
When you really don’t know where that is
But I’ve learned along the way
That we’re all lookin’ for the same thing
And I’m tryin’ to get there oh the best I can
Tryin’ to get there
Sometimes that ain’t easy
When you really don’t know where that is
But I’ve learned along the way
That we’re all lookin’ for the same thing
And I’m tryin’ to get there oh the best I can
Yeah I’ve made some turns Lord that took me out of the way
Been more than a few times that I wound up in the wrong place just
Tryin’ to get there
Sometimes that ain’t easy
When you really don’t know where that is
But I’ve learned along the way
That we’re all lookin’ for the same thing
And I’m tryin’ to get there oh the best I can

A lovely song and a lovely vouice .
I remember watching David Lee Murphy performing this tune during a live session on CMT on my computer when I had just started playing the guitar. One day, the video was removed from CMT.com. And I've been trying to find that clip ever since. Does anyone know this clip, a link for watching it somewhere else or something? Thanks.
+Kristian Mau Kristiansen Believe it or not have the audio of that clip but not the video, I'll try to upload it as soon as I buy a laptop! :/
@cesarr956 That would be outstanding. Let me know when that happens! :)
Will do, keep checking the channel, I'll post it here :)
David Lee Murphy is the real deal. theres no Nashvile fictional charcter in this music
David Lee Murphy is Oooooozzzzing with talent. He needs to get back in the studio and cut another album. It started with 'Dust On The Bottle' and as far as I am concerned his success has never diminished regardless of his status in the studio.
David has always been my songwriting hero........which is kinda funny because we are both exactly the same age.....I'd give my next paycheck to spend an hour with him.............writing !
It was co-written with Waylon before he passed away. It's not known if he ever recorded it. If he did, his version remains unreleased.
I love you David!!!!!!!
Licensing the songs for a small fee would not be a problem for MCA. Koch Records could make some money versus keeping them on the shelf so to speak, so the challenge would be to get someone in charge of compiling this disc that is familiar with DLM's music.
In terms of David's music, the album this song is also called "Tryin' To Get There" is a gem, every song rox. I have another song on my acct from that record you should check out. "The Road You Leave Behind", "Loco", "Dust On The Bottle" and "Party Crowd" are some others you can check out right here on youtube.
