Mullins, Rich - Hold Me Jesus Lyrics

Well sometimes my life just don't make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small

So hold me Jesus 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It's so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart

So hold me Jesus 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

Surrender don't come natural to me
I'd rather fight You for something I don't really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I've beat my head against so many walls
Now I'm falling down I'm falling on my knees

And this Salvation Army band is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin

I'm singing hold me Jesus 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

Hold me Jesus... has been playing in my mind all day so far!! Hold me Jesus. 😩

  2. Ethan Anderson

I don't remember it since I was just a little little kid, but I stopped his concert getting my arm stuck in the seat. I screamed and screamed and he stopped to make sure I was ok. I remember driving from wichita KS to the show he was supposed to play the day he died wondering why my mom and everyone was so sad. Not understanding what had happened

  3. John Dpic

I'm so sorry for your loss, and WOW how blessed she was to have such a loving Mother like you :)
My Mom (now 91) would probably be glad/relieved if I died 20 years ago. Her favorite line when I call her over past 30-40 years is "Leave Me Alone, Don't Bother Me". (And yes, she is occassionally nice, usually if/when she wants/needs something from me).
I've known (heard about) many, many people who have tried or taken their own lives (suicide), and this guy who had tried to kill himself a few times, when he did that he was in an "unreasonable" state of mind (not thinking clearly), usually this (dangerous) state of mind is due to a clinical depression (chemical imbalance) or extreme despair (emotional trauma).
I just wanted you to know this (in case you never thought this) that I'm sure if your daughter was thinking clearly, she would never have allowed herself to leave you. Your intense love is evident.
And this song is one I often go to when Im depressed/overwhelmed etc. Wish I could have a Mom to call that would hold/love me. Nooe, she's even meaner to me when I'm sad or in pain.
Again, she only does not block me out if I am doing something to help her.
If heaven exists (I believe it does) I'm certain your daughter is eagerly waiting to tell uou how she made an unreasonable decision and regrets (is so sorry) + regrets that she left you.
Please try to focus on your good memories with her and not hiw she died (a mistake).
And btw, your note really helped me today.
The love (and sadness) you have.
Reason is last summer when I told my Mother I had cancer + needed a major surgery ASAP, she shockingly refused to help me (I live alone) AND TOLD ME, "if you cant handle the cancer ON YOUR OWN, you should do like your cousin Doris from Staten Island did and just kill yourself!".
Obviously I have yet to (and likely never will) follow my Mother's advice, but it haunts me often.
Fortunately I can REASONABLY talk myself out of it (my strong desire to be dead and out of pain/sadness).
And I prayer (fear) things dont get worse,(like a clinical depression or pain so severe) that will cause me to start thinking "unreasonably" and able to murder myself (suicide).
I want to be dead, but can not do it. And when I start thinking unreasonably, like about how happy my Mom would be if I did die many years ago I force myself any way I can to snap out of it (suicidal thoughts), and to think "reasonably" again.

btw, my Mom's severe neglect almost killed me when I was 12,
further supporting how my being dead would be very ok with her...
But then I remind myself she is just a selfish and ABUSIVE human being + Mother. (years of therapy decades ago, in my late 20's taught me that).

I hope my venting is ok with you?
***I just really wanted to tell you about
how your love for your daughter shined through in your note.
And about my friend's thoughts on how he was thinking "unreasonably" the times he tried to kill himself
and how happy (now, not then when he was in an "unreasonable" state of mind, that they were able to save him.

I'm sure when your daughter entered heaven, she too regretted that her suucide attempt was successful,
and she too misses you dearly.
Thank you for being such a lovng Mom.

I remember crying the day I'd heard about his death when it had aired on the Christian radio station back in September 1997. I'd only started to discover the magic of his songs around 1995 when I'd learned that there was more Contemporary Christian music out there with meaning & depth other than Amy Grant's music. His many songs had touched me - especially "Nothing Is Beyond You", his version of Psalm 139, & a reminder to me of the awesomeness - the depth - the total beyond-me-ness of God's love for someone like me...& yet He does.

RIP, Rich...Sing for Him now. God bless you...:

kainosktisis777 he was a family friend of my family. I wasn’t “close” to him or anything but he was around. I used to play his hammer dulcimer when I was a kid that he gave as a gift to a family friend.

He was a very talented man. I have a ton of respect for him and his mission.

    lavenderwisteria

I felt the same when when I heard of his death. Such a blow. I named my son after the boy he sung about in Let Mercy Lead, and attended one of his last concerts. Rich died when my son was exactly one year old. There hasn't been anyone with music that could touch my heart like his did ever since. What a gift.

  31. Ian Cunningham

For as long as I can remember, I've battled with addiction. Every time I lost a battle, I feel like I've disgraced God. But listening to these words, I can really relate to what he's talking about. It reminds me that Gods grace is far greater than any sin I keep fighting. Sometimes it's a hard thing for me to grasp but when I think about it, Jesus knows my heart. He knows how much I struggle. God loved me and all of us so much that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins.
I also remember that Gods grace is new every morning. I need him everyday.

    Danny Villalovos

THATS ON POINT. I TOO FACE THOSE CHALLENGES THEY DO NOT FACE ME ANYMORE THANK YOU TOO MY PAPPY J.C. THIS LOSS OF MY EX LOVER SHERRI WILL NOT MAKE ME A BAD PERSON " CLOSET CREEP " I GREW UP MY WHOLE LIFE SURROUNDED BY THE UGLYNESS OF SIN AN WICKED ABUSE. I KNEW WHEN I WAS TOO YOUNG FOR SCHOOLING HOW I DID NOT WANT TO TREAT A FEMALE. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO MY REAL FAMILY IS DO TOO SOME THINGS MY EARTH FATHER TOLD ME B4 HE PASSED HE TOLD ME THESE 2 THINGS, LOOKIN AT U MAKES ME WISH I WOULD HAVE DONE THINGS DIFFERENTLY AN THEN HE TOLD ME I WAS ADOPTED. I PRAYED ABOUT IT AN SONTIMEZ ON NIGHTS LIKE THIS I REFLECT ON ONE OF SO MANY SOLID PRAYERS AN ASKED I WOULD LOVE TOO KNOW MY REAL MAMMA. MY BROTHER GETS ALL THE LOVE AN NURTURING.

    1 Corinthians 13:13 L.

@Cunningham, I totally feel you, brother. I was also addicted to dope, codeine, Xanax and what not... But when I earnestly tried to overcome those addictions, the high that I got from overcoming those temptations were much better than the high that I got from the substances themselves! And all of these are possible through Jesus Christ who sets us free from the hold of the devil and his lies; lies that we'll never change, lies that make us feel less of who God really intends us to become through a life lived before His redeeming love and grace! My prayers are with you, brother. We can win this war!

  32. Chijanbemo Richard

I am totally in tears listening to the song as well as reading all your comments.

  34. Sarah Brigida

the only one righteous enough to have righteous indignation is Jesus. I used to use the fact that Jesus was angry at bad people to be angry myself but then realized I'm a hypocrite if I get angry at someone for acting a certain way and it also says a hundred times in the Bible to not be angry and to love your enemies and those that hurt you.

    Sarah Brigida

idk why you have the name it may be another reason but it throws me off seeing Christian videos and then the name

    Rob Dylan

Actually it's okay to be angry but in your anger do not sin.

    Gail Kathryn14

Sarah - You are human, lighten up on feeling angry at others - "Righteous Justice" serves a purpose here on earth, by supporting and lifting up your neighbors (who have fallen on a crooked path). You know= love the sinner and hate the sin. Anger & fear when appropriate (reality-based, not just imagined or emotional) serves a useful purpose,=To protect You + Others and make this evil earth purer. Take care of yourself. And keep fighting against injustice - God needs & wants you helping others to live- up to his word. And with love, I hope others help/inspire you so "anger" serves a useful purpose and does not just defeat or knock you down.

    objectivitycave11

well, Christ is going to have to forgive me for this then.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRezW4gTyNc this is a song i made about being mad at the industries that promote death and violence.. i am not worthy of God's love, i feel, i made too many mistakes, and i continue to get blessed. i was blessed with having a dad that loved Rich Mullins music, for example.. that doesn't mean i can't be angry. Christ was God in Flesh and he got angry. ok, so as humans we are going to experience anger, that's just the way it is. Christ knew that, which is why he said "in your anger, do not sin!'. the church doesn't want us to be angry. why? i don't know, mass control. Matthew 16:4 "A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away." Jonah was angry. those with ears let them hear

    Gail Kathryn14

Anger can be healthy to promote positive change...But I realky did not understand your song and what you are angry about? And what is wrong with capitalism?

Productive people working hard to support themselves and contribute to their society.

Do you prefer socialism where (corrupt + immoral) governments control everything you do + say?
(And I wont even ask if you prefer communism).

So why are you yelling in your song against capitalism?
Yes, I too am angry about the immoral + unrighteous decay in our society, but I really did not understand what is making you so angry?

Capitalism, (working hard with limited government interference,) is a good thing.

I am G.L.A.D. (God's Liaison Against Decadence), hope you are too.

I grew up listening to his music. Have always loved it. But he died before I was born. Funny right? So wish I could have met him. He's such a great singer. He pours his WHOLE heart into his songs. His songs are the only songs that TRUELY touch me in such a deep way, that i seems like some of the songs were written for me at a time of struggle. Love ya Rich Mullins. Can't wait to meet you one day! <3

So true. No other Christian artist have ever spoken truth through their music than Mullins. It's sad though so many CCM artists are so sugar coated in their music.

Jesus is far too good to us... he took all of our stain and bore on himself until death. He was sacrificed in our stead, it's a miracle in itself he'd bother to do anymore for us, to help us daily, to have his love available to all. He's more than we deserve. Yet after all he's given us, he just keeps on giving... thank you Lord.
