The Schenker can really communicate with his Flying V or his Dean Signature or whatever, can't he ? I've been completely hooked since the first time I heard studio version UFO "Let It Roll." It is fantastic that others appreciate this ballsy album. Michael described Assault Attack as "...an album musicians can appreciate..." in an Eddie Trunk interview.

My metal , fishnet hose wearing, big haired 80's, hot girlfriend turned me on to this album when it came out. Then she broke up with me a few weeks later. How prophetic eh? Thanks bitch. i mean really...thanks for the album.

As much as I like Simon Phillips and for all his technique for that era, McKenna was the best choice for this line-up. Holds it down and only adds where he needed to, really letting Schenkar and Bonnet take the front seat. Agree, best MSG album.

You can break it down into it's component parts & analyze it phrase by phrase and note by note, you can learn it by patiently repeating it forever and yet... it still possesses a certain something that is unattainable, the essence, the brooding Germanic gestalt that is Michael Schenker's genius. It is mercurial, almost within your grasp but not quite. He plays a series of finite notes that contain an infinite number of possibilities. Sheer magic! Each time I listen I Come away with something new. Ain't music grand?

I have been listening to this for nearly 3 decades... and never cease to amaze me. From a teen wizard, to success, uncertainty, free will, all of the human frailty and weakness, and the extraordinary strength of fighting out from depth of darkness, his life story is itself is a book. This is why this man is a Legend.

I must admit that at times i have trouble deciding between Assault Attack and Down to Earth. but isnt it amazing that everything,although short lived. that Bonnet has done is legendary. with this said. i still think that Gary B arden was the proper singe fo Michael....God bless brother.

Not only may this be Michaels best solo, and yes there are so many. but bieng a R.Blackmore kiss ass, even i have to say that Schenker is probably the greatest rock gutarist who ever lived. His feelings, his bends, the picking. and the overall building of the long solos are like compossitions in themselves. I was coming back from college one day when this record came out. i got off the bus,ran into The Wiz, and got it. Bonnet with MSG? took it home and made my gandmother deaf. Monumental music.

Wish Michael could find the inspiration again that he showed on first few albums. This is music that will still sound fresh for years to come.

The clarity on this album equals Obsession - it's absolutely stunning..........

Probably Schenker's finest solo (and there's been many!) - why all the comparisons with Gary Moore, not really similar in my opinion and in any case Schenker smokes Moore all day long :)

Best melodic rock guitarist since and before Gary Moore too! Micheal hit the scene in '72 with the scorpions as a 17 yr old wunderkind. He was only 27 when this album was released and already a grizzled veteran of the rock scene having played with scorpions and ufo plus 3 albums with msg before releasing Assault attack. I agree this was THE BEST MSG Album but Unforgiven is actually quite good despite the production having muffled all the soloing.

Assault Attack is my favourite rock album! This track sounds sensational! Ted McKenna gives us a master class in rock drumming, Graham Bonnet sounds incredible, Chris Glen locks into the drumming with his solid bass playing and Michael Schenker shows us why he is regarded by many as the best melodic rock guitarist in the world (since Gary Moore's passing). Fabulous!

Assault Attack & Gary Moore's "Run for Cover" (along w/ all Thin Lizzy) stayed with me through the 80's, 90's, 2000+...timeless music...amazing talent & songwriting. Thanks for posting...you rock.
