Mr. Bungle - Ars Moriendi Lyrics
He who hears in the vast silence
He who wafts on the red wind
In extremis
He who leaps across the precipice
Ride si sapis
Ave atque vale
Ave atque vale
I shall rise again
Bardo of the flesh
So feast on me
All my bones are laughing as you're dancing on my grave
Ave atque vale
So feast on me
All my bones are laughing as you're dancing on my grave

Mr. Bungle Ars Moriendi Comments
Definitely an under appreciated band. Way too ahead of their time..
This is grindcore abroad
Eargasm
why do I enjoy their music so much when it's so weird? I repeat their songs more than any other popular music now hahaha
I so often wish this would broadcast telepathically from me as i walk around, and watch people collectively lose their shit.
*La Ctm*
Man. Imagine coming up with this song and saying ‘guys, this is how it goes’ and trying to teach the band the structure. Haha. I have a nightmare trying to get simple song structures across
Love this album!
AMOOOOOOOO!
Saw them twice in 2000 on the sno-core tour. Was awesome! They blew everyone away. They did squeeze me macaroni followed by this and goodbye sober day. Needless to say I had an erection
Heh, Latin to English: ars moriendi -The art of dying / Ride si sapis - If the smart ride / In extremis - On the edge
/ Ave atque vale - Hail and farewell... Now you know... lol
The shark nightmare cabaret
This reminds me of Igorrr, the way there arr so many different styles involved...they really play with music.
Anybody know of other artists that are skilled like this, in different genres?
Taraf de Haidouks - Turceasca - Listen the melodic patterns at 4:26 and 8:32 from this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnNCidccbG8
Balkan/Gypsy folk music
Wait what?
Lol I heard "he who steals girls from me". Not "he who steals pearls from the ashes."
#MikePatton4SOAD
This is fun! I think of Papa Guido running around! Thank you Mr.Bungle.
valeeeeeeeeee
I wish this sort of record could still happen nowadays
ilsegugio It can, just not on a major record label.
3:20 taraf de haidouks - turceasca
love the klezmer
Saw them around 2000. One of the best shows of my life.
Ars Moriendi translates to The Art of Dying, which might just be my favourite gojira song. What a nice, meaningless conisidence.
Perhaps, not a coinkydink??? 🤔
3:06 "Soft drinks on meeeee!"
hahahah YES
I thought that's what he said for real. My whole life has been a life.
@Toprak your comment made me snort
@Shannen Canton Lol I didn't even type that as a joke. That's a funny typo right there.
James Hetfield? 1:50
Probably
I wish I would have written this song!!!! So ridiculously, amazingly strange and awesome!!!! Go Bungle!!!!
Why's the intro cut off?
Red hot chili peppers are better
Bob Saget Nice One
Popularity wise, yeah. But they're not that awesome, Bungle had more balls in one song than RHCP does in their entire catalogue. I like peppers, but comparing them to this? They blow.
nice try troll
I'm going to have to disagree, there bud. Mr. Bungles songs are distinguishable from one another. I've noticed in bands such as RHCP and Disturbed that many of their songs sound very similar to another.
for "rob scallon brought me here" guys, nice try finding a tab
It's Romanian funk
being the drummer for this band must have been a nightmare
@mac the drummer crazy like beethoven
Agree. Arguably tougher than being a drummer for Zappa. Hell, even Dave Lombardo said it was more difficult to drum for Fantomas than it was to drum for Slayer. Slayer just takes endurance. (Not knocking Slayer. I'm a fan) But Lombardo said in an interview (I'm going to butcher his text) "...Drumming for Slayer was all about timing. Drumming for Fantomas has a feel to it. You have to listen to your gut."
but a funny one.... love it ♥
OR a complex pleasure...as a drummer I'll bet he never ONCE felt satisfied with a performance...and loved every minute of it!
They attempt everything- it's manic cinema, nothing tops Platypus, but they truly are the most modern form of jazz. It would be interesting if they cut an album with Throbbing gristle.
Whenever I hear this, I think of crazy European chefs in a synchronized dance creating a weird lobster soup
@deadgoondee Definitely a bisque, it's buttery/creamy.
In one bit, I get a pastiche from Laurence of Arabia; dudes riding horses across the desert waving their sabres in the air, in another, Jews dancing a circle in some Russia shettle.
I agree with everything you typed, except, "Lobster soup". It's clearly a chilled cucumber consume. I mean....., come on man.
@aaronsdavis if Weird Lobster Soup wasn't a Primus album, it would've been a Mr Bungle album.
I live in the heart of Europe. We do not make weird lobster soup. To do this fucking good music, we would cook beef stew with red wine, in the wilderness and dance barefoot, picking up the dust! Wow! Do you hear Jay Stebley playing the cymbal? This is fucking Hungarian music and I'm Hungarian! I know what I'm talking about! I had a part in it. Even at a funeral.
2:20 - 2:24 so fuckin amazing
awsome!!!! absolutely brillant today and when it came out
Rob Scallon brought me here
From which video?
Nine downvoting cunts (no offence to cunts, while that word remains a curious pejorative for the female twat). Don't worry, downvoting friends. Your opposable thumbs are coming in 250,000 years.
I just did a vocal cover of this song! Check it out in my channel! :D
I WANT MORE MUSIC LIKE THIS
+Ryan Shehata Check out the band Estradasphere
Dillinger Escape Plan and Between the Buried and Me both take a lot of inspiration from Mr. Bungle. It's not the same though. There's really nothing quite like Mr. Bungle.
There’s also pinkly smooth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaTg-_EKmL8
I love how Trey picks his guitar in a surf style for most of this album. its one of my fav styles of guitar play. and then to switches!
Igorrr said this was one of his favourites, so I got here... This is amazing!!!
+Logiarhythm Igorrr's got taste!
makes sense. igorrr is probably the mr bungle of electronic
Yes, even Vegetable Soup sounds similar
I always thought of Passenger of Shit as being the Mr. Bungle of electronic music. He's been making this type of music before Igorrr with albums like “Dingo Donga Up Ya Bunga“ and “Floating With My Poo“, and the imagery is somewhat close to home with Mr. Bungle.
The fact that this and Primus are both on Nibbles' playlist makes me way too happy.
She's got some fucking taste. RATATAT, Mr Bungle, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Placebo
Indeed.
I was the like number 666 hahahaha im the chosen one.
Rob Scallon brought me here.
holy shit yes
What Video? I've been jamming to bungle for a while now
@Alien Alibi 30 songs in one minute.
rob scallon did too such a hoe
31 songs in one minute i think actually, not 30
What in God's name is this?
It's FUCKING Bungle man!
Stubb (a Dub) is my favorite song of em' ;(
Nolan Baldwin coming from the guy with a Quasimoto profile pic? Listen to this entire album, it's beautifully organised chaos.
.Your awakening.
The music of God
4 dislikes? Kiedis just won't stop!
All four members of RHCP
+DarkOnOneSide your comment deserves more thumbs up ! ^^
+DarkOnOneSide
4 more of their fans :P
1 more.......time!!!!!!! lol
I'm 19 and can name every song and album jerk ps McKinnon definitely the talent but Patton is so fun weird it's amazing great singer
Strong arabian - jewish influences :D
noticed the jewish sounds, i was thinking maybe it's related to the Arsim which are lower class (chav or gopnik equivilent i suppose) sorta "gangstas" in Israel
chroscielewski if you play it in the right key, it'll actually flow right into Hava Nagila almost seamlessly
1:35 I love this sound, it makes me think of gish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_O954SI1HI
Good stuff. Thanks

Is it safe to assume those 3 dislikes are all from butthurt amateur musicians that injured themselves trying to air guitar along to this song?
No, it's just that everyone has their own taste in music
some pretty fucking BAD taste then...
greymajickjedi Or butt hurt Red hot chilli peppers fans
My friend said if I didn't listen to this immediately he'd punch me in the dick.
Should have asked him to turn his fist sideways and loosen his grip a bit first.
Now *that is a true friend*
I hope you thanked him? Sounds like a good friend!

I like how everyone in the comments are only talking about Mike Patton. Yes his vocals on this album are amazing, but you realize there was an entire band involved in the process? Mr. Bungle is not a one man band xD
Oh, I know! Mr. Bungle is a conglomerate of music genius!
Every project of all members of Mr. Bungle have an unique twist that took them off the "standard musician" moniquer to showcase their real, multiple skills. Trey Spruance and Secret Chiefs 3, Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant, Patton and Fantomas, and Danny Heifetz
& Clinton McKinnon various projects.
is funny you say that because this one is the "patton song" of the album, the whole composition come from patton ideas, and the other members recreate their idea with their instruments, bungle work so, search the last Sruance interview. sorry my caca english.
lol, this is a mike patton song
@The Fox The Raven Trey Spruance has just as much say if not more. Without his riffs there is no Bungle.
HAAAWEEEEOHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
How can you be listening this awesome stuff while being so stupid? This is just leaving me speechless... I guess it's unrelated after all...
This is great!
totally
i would party with them! :D
He was here FOUR YEARS BEFORE YOU.
How is he "late" exactly??
sounds like JEW ROCK.
Shekel metal
Lol. My dumbasses radar never lies.
I think you missed his point. He meant that whereas conventional music exhibits well defined limitations, Mr. Bungle fearlessly shatters said limitations by creating an eclectic amalgamation of styles to be found nowhere else, except of course in their music; so basically what it boils down to is that you are an attention hungry faggot with no sense of grammatical comprehension. Have a nice day.
You're a bit late, badass kid.
yeah there is
Mestre3224
sounds like a muslim bar mitzvah. mazel tov and As-salamu alaykum to you all!
All my bones are laughing as you're dancing on my grave
one of the most eclectic songs i have ever heard!
There is a part in this song that reminds me of The Usual Suspects, every time.
yeaaaaaah!!
this song is awesom!!!
this song is impossible to learn on bass. but I'm trying.
Tbh it's pretty easy
Ouh yes! One of the greatest!
Yes of course. Latin. But even the parts in english sounds somewhat different. He puts this really nice accent there!
this is just impossibly awesome. i've never heard anything coming even remotely close to that.
i could listen to that over and over. part at 2.28, and vocal-guitar synchro is amazing. woooooooow.
Mike Patton = Musical Genius
but he's Bill Hicks! That's got to count for something right?
Mike Patton has the uncanny ability to make the english language sound like some kind of foreign and exotic tongue.
Pretty good summary. It seems some so called fans of Bungle "knock" people who claim this album to be the best. Good is good, and bad is bad if you ask me. And this album is good.
I think you should reconsider the songs on this album and listen to them for what they are instead of considering them as filler.
It's probably also the best. It's not as overtly insane, but it's probably the most intricate and the most rewarding album by Bungle to listen to. It's subtlety complex and layered. A masterpiece if you ask me.
"no order." The fuck do you mean. The song structures, and transitions are awesome.
u so hipster
welcome to bungle land take a tiket and sit down please
Mike patton has his own genre i swear!
Cynical fleet, assemble!
Primus, Mr. Bungle, and the Melvins! that must have been a CRAZY show. the only thing that would have made it better would be if Gwar and the Buttholes Surfers were there too. I'm pretty sure all hell would break loose!
Moreso on this album than any other.
If by "mainstream" you mean "refined", then yes. Yes it is.
So true.
I know only two other bands like this: Primus and Melvins
Easily the most mainstream sounding Bungle album.
Just mike patton the god !
bungle :P
Sweet Charity is a masterpiece, Retrovertigo is A FUCKING AMAZING MASTERPIECE, Pink Cigarette is a masterpiece, The Holy Filament I agree with you, Vanity Fair is fucking beautiful.
