Mountain Goats, The - Going To Chino Lyrics

I'd like to say hello
to all our friends from chino.
to the people of chino, hello.
I'd like to say hello
to all our friends from chino.
to the people of chino, hello.

I know how hard it is, down in chino.
I know how you struggle, just to get by.
I know they got farm fresh eggs, down in chino.
and tract homes, reasonably priced!

I'd like to say hello
to all our friends from chino.
to the people from chino, hello.
I'd like to say hello
to all our friends from chino.
to the people from chino, hello.

convenient access to the 60 freeway.
accredited medical care, down at chino valley hospital.
a unified school system, the likes of which you won't find elsewhere.
and friendly people.

I would like to say hello
to all our friends from chino.
to the people from chino, hello.
I'd just like to say hello
to all our friends from chino.
to the people from chino....hello.

Mountain Goats, The Going To Chino Comments
  1. w.... ....

They played this to open their set in Denver last night, and a bunch of people were familiar with it. That was my kind of crowd.

  2. L.... W....

I come from Chino, so all your threats are empty

  3. G.... G....

I so miss Chino!!! Best place I have ever lived.

  4. M.... ....

I skipped over this side of The Mountain Goats for about a year and a half, and I'm just now getting into it. Already, I feel that this is one of the most direct and heartfelt and wonderful songs John's performed - not just of his cassette recording days, but in general. Like a lot of his other work is a lot more subdued and subtle in its meaning, if not direct with its phrasing - this is just a guy yelling about how much he loves Chino, subtlety be damned. It's beautiful and raw, and I don't think John's recorded anything quite like this since. Really, this song is just one of the greats - so firm and passionate and loud. I love it.

I live in chino too. this song makes me happy.

  6. H.... C....

    A song about my hometown.

  7. M.... S....

Funny, in the suggested videos section, this video is distinctly labeled "Going to China."

  8. T.... ....

Probably the most powerful Mountain Goats song there is. Just listen to the longing in John's voice, pining to deliver a friendly greeting to his "friends" in Chino. He knows how hard it is down there, despite the farm fresh eggs, reasonably priced tract homes, convenient access to the 60 freeway, accredited medical care down at Chino Valley Hospital, a unified school system the likes of which you won't find elsewhere, and friendly people.

Matter of perspective. I lived in Chino for a while then moved one town over to Chino Hills, which despite being one of the richest communities in the state, sucks a bag of dicks. I miss Chino quite a lot.

  10. T.... ....

From another San Bernardinoian I can can conform that most of this area sucks massive dick

  11. s.... ....

I wish i had your perspective. :) Thats a good attitude.

You kidding? I love Chino. I love the cheap movie theater next to the Prehistoric Pets. I love Magnolia Junior High. I love Super Chili Burger. I even love Chino Valley Medical.

Like JD says, we struggle just to get by. But the struggle's the most important part. Chino makes me feel like I'm slowly living.

  13. s.... ....

If anyone was wondering. Chino is exactly like this song says it is. Its another lame suburban town you just feel like you're dying slowly in.

  14. K.... M....

Could you please upload "Torch Song?"

  15. v.... ....

I want this played at my funeral.

  16. s.... ....

I love you John. I mean, I'm not gay, but I just totally completely love you.
