As a big Crue fan from the very beginning it's very strange to read all the positive comments about this album since I dislike this album so much. I found this entire record to be spectacularly mediocre and uninspired. I would venture to guess that many have a positive view of New Tatoo because it is a return to the 80s style sleazy cock rock that the Crue was known for. This is where any similarities between the classic Motley Crue material and New Tatoo end. Unfortunately, the problem is that the material on New Tatoo is nowhere near the level of quality that defined classics like "Too Fast for Love" and "Shout at the Devil" as well as their more commercial efforts like "Girls Girls Girls" and "Dr Feelgood". Even a misfire like "Theatre of Pain" stands head and shoulders above the steaming pile of garbage that is "New Tatoo".

In their desire to consciously return to their older sound they end up sounding like caricatures of themselves. Like him or hate him, Nikki Sixx has proven to be a very competent songwriter who occasionally flirts with brilliance and this is why its a mystery to me that such a talented individual would put out the type of substandard schlock that we have with New Tatoo. It is difficult for me to reconcile how a guy/guys capable of creating such a bold and substantial rock statement like the self titled "Motley Crue" could serve up the type of boring tripe one would expect from minor leaguers like Danger Danger and Faster Pussycat but that is exactly what we have in New Tatoo. To be brutally honest, as much negativity and flat out hatred that has been heaped on New Tatoo's predecessor "Generation Swine", the later is a thousand times better that Tatoo. Generation Swine has some excellent songs on it and that record really shows the ability of Nikki Sixx to be a type of rock autuer who takes in the current rock environment and writes a rock record reflecting those influences in his own style. Generation Swine's biggest sin was that it dared to not sound like Motley Crue. Nobody seemed to care that many of the songs were really good. With New Tatoo it seems that it's best attribute was that it sounded more like Motley Crue and because of that most everybody overlooked one major detail. The songs sucked.

This doesnt even sound like the crue.Tommys drumming is plainly missing and the sound is just not crue.As someone who owns their 2 best ever .Too fast and shout this album is a big letdown.Sounds like they got back on the drugs.

Unfortunately this album didn't get the push it deserved from the label. One of the Crue's best,that so many of their fans will never hear.

U know what...ur right. Ive been a crue fan since 12. Too fast is my favorite album but because of Nirvana and Grunge i did stop listening to them after the amazing Dr. Album. I bought Gen Swine and threw up. I didnt buy the carobi album cuz Nikki shouldve called them sumthin else. Im glad i can go back cuz after this track i wish i listened sooner.
Added: When limp bitchkit came out i gave up on music. NOT EVEN A JOKE. I CANT EVEN FUCKING LISTEN TO WHAT THE FUCK IS OUT NOW. EVERYONE IS NUTSUCKING BLACK CULTURE KILLING ROCK. Closest thing i found was yesterday, greta van fleese or sumthin but i cant tell if thats a joke or what.
