Motley Crue - Down At The Whisky Lyrics
[Written By Sixx / Michael / Ashba / Frederiksen]
We're runaways in a band
All roads lead to Hollywood
We'll leave a scar, won't give a damn
Do you remember when?
We slept all day in our clothes
That's OK in hollywood
Another shot, another show
All night long at the whisky a-go-go
Do you remember when?
We were on the run
Got loaded like a shotgun
Living out our dreams
Down at the whisky
We never made a dime
But, God we had a good time
We always made a scene
Down at the whisky
LA girls they paid the rent
While we got drunk on sunset strip
And all the cash they made we spent
On tattoos and cigarettes
Do you remember when?
[Chorus]
We were born to fight
And we were getting high
Livin' out our dreams down at the whisky
[Solo]
[Chorus]
We were born to fight
And we were getting high
Livin' out our dreams down at the whisky

Motley Crue Down At The Whisky Comments
Love the words in this song. It really sums up the whole scene back then. The women definitely made sure the bands got to eat etc lol
Good song!

Great song to sum up the LA 80s Glam scene, how fun it must've been to be apart of it.

your right, not all bands are ripping off , but i grew up in the 80s. winter 1984 crue backed up ozzy, i know i had 4th row on the floor.
l.a girls they pay the rent while we get drunk on sunset strip.hahaha best line love motley crue.
i would rather be my age and have seen the bands that i have seen than be in my 20s and seen noone. or just a band ripping off someone eles style. by the way, everyone gets old. thats ok this 47 year old man just got back from the beach, top down in my beautiful black porsche. have fun.
@deepace i agree down at the whisky is a good song but i am 47 years old, and when you saw them in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985 etc. like i did, when they were young and on drugs. the old memories for me and all my buds, nothing they can do now, cannot come close to the old days even if i am a lot older than you i have seen a couple hundred concerts. vanhalen in 1980, 81, 82, 83, 84 the roth days. except for a few good bands in the year 2011, as a young kid today i really feel bad for u. its all gone
@Sc0000tt :P thats how every motley crue album is believe it or not xD

STFU about age everyone, just enjoy the music and enjoy life. That's what it's for.
8 people are mentally handicapped
@NakeRtHeRoCkEr
no one cares that you are 14 and listen to great music
@HuggiesDiaper What's scientology got to do wiith ANYTHING?
@TruthUnderFire I'm 14, and I listen to Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Poison, Motley Crue, Twisted Sisters... so don't judge anyone... if you don't like it, that's good for you, but that doesn't mean anyone else can't like it.
@LuongoOWNS you're an ass--Henrik for captain!!!
Cant people just enjoy the music
fuck motley crue they sound like michael jackson
WTF DO U KNOW DICK?
My name is Chippy I have a newspaper route so I can help my Mom pay the rent.....and my Dad likes Motley Crue and he's like 85 or something, so like....I don't care if you don't like this CD ok....like Motley is like 'LIFE' ?
LMAO!
I always consider this to be the sequel to On With the Show from Too Fast For Love
@xxxxx109 FUCK OFF DOUCH BAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TruthUnderFire my dad is over 30 and he is like IN LOVE with this band
@TruthUnderFire ok ive looked at several motley vids and u say this in every one of them....come up with something new
@sherbroute Run along outside and play hide and go fuck yourself. ; )
T
@Moltisanti15 OK. We'll see what Motley gets you 10 years down the road.
LMAO.
T
atheist is one who can disprove the existance of god I would love that info! you are a agnostic
this is one of my fav songs, its what they stand for. i like how they looked back at their lives and still loved it on SOLA!
Someone over 30 reporting in. I like it.
You...Fail.
Someone's stuck in the past...Most of us, including the Crue, left you behind years ago. Good music didn't stop in 1988...
It's more rock and roll to let people have their opinions, and keep on in spite of them, than to dirty your diaper over it. If you don't like it, that's your prerogative. Just grow up and accept the fact that people disagree with you.
guys
who fuck cares if this guy is a scientoligist
im an athiest, but my dad is a scientoligist, and it clearly makes more sence than that one christain religion
oh yeah, this song ownzzz!!!!
Wonderful song, I love it XD
Saw them at the Palladium in Cologne Germany on tuesday this week. Freakin awesome. They rock and they give such positive vibe. It's just one big party. Thanx for rocking the house guys! You rock.
all religion is a load of crap
Hear hear! Life is Motley!
Lungcheese,
If you had a brain, you'd be dangerous. Don't be a sheep and believe everything you read, from third party sources. You OBVIOUSLY have no clue of what Scientology is. I don't waste time with people that can't think for themselves or investigate something first hand prior to forming an opinion.
You're a mindless douche with horrible taste in music, bottom line.
You're 15 AND 'Canadian'. Heh heh...Nuff said.
LOL, that's funny. I'd much rather be a Scientologist (something you know dick about) than have horrible taste in music. If you think this song is good you're definitely part of the sheep herd and have no musical taste whatsoever. This may be one of Motley's weakest attempts at a song....ever.
I cant believe someone wants to rag this CD.
motley crue rules no dude
Sivazh,
You can run along outside and play hide and go fuck yourself.
You know dick about the Crue. But that's ok, because I don't care to argue about it. This CD is weak and that's the end of that.
No. You're right, I've only been a session artists for 13+ years. I guess that doesn't mean much eh? When you've studied music for as long as I have, you understand what it takes to produce a CD like this. The answer is: Not much. Aside from Sixx, the crew is in a downward spiral and has been since Dr. Feelgood. Below average and very reachy, like I said. Live with it. This is NOT a band with an abundance of talent.
Don't get me wrong I like these guys, just not the CD.
Before you insult someone, you might want to look at who you are insulting first.
Don't be a fool.
This is one of the best albums for when your driving... hitting a ton with SOLA album blasting out.. bliss!
errrm, as far as I know, all the original members of the band are still in it...
and this album is fucking class!!
I'd like to comment on how ridiculous it is that someone posts their point of view, another person posts a rebuttal, and then the personal attacks on orientation and needless vulgarity begin. So crass. What happened to intelligent debate, people?
Selling out arena's? Try...with the help of 4 or five other bands. These guys cannot do it alone anymore. They haven't sold out an arena solo since Girls, Girls, Girls. You're high. Give that pipe a rest.
Put the bong down.
I got it. It's a disappointment to me. I guess it's just that: A disappointment to me. I should probably keep that to myself. It's hard to believe this is the same band and I suppose I get disgusted just thinking about it.
You're entitled to an opinion, but I don't understand your need to spread it where other people enjoy this song. I'm a fan of old-school Crue, too. I've heard all the songs off every album except 'Nona'...should get on that. But I disagree that this CD is weak. It's not necessarily as powerful as some older stuff, but the Crue's still got it. You should see the SOLA tour live. The energy behind all the new songs just reinforces my view.
I am entitled to an opinion just as you are. You have to understand where this band has come from. The level of rock lords to this. It's sickening to me. I grew up with the crew. I was listening to Too Fast For Love in HS. This CD is weak.
If you don't like it, stop posting here.
I would be very surprised if anyone over 30 likes this CD. A lot of the younger crowd like it, which is understandable because they like bands like Disturbed and Dragonforce. LAME. Everything up and until Dr. Feelgood was good. After that, almost pure crap.
Let's clap our hands to songs about the Whiskey...yaaaaaaaay. Soooo gay.
God, I never thought I'd hear this band make this lame of an album. Think back to Too Fast For Love. Light years ahead of this, yet this CD is 20+ years later. Unreal.
This song is weak as Circus Lemonade.
hahahahahaha thats awesome
This is a GAY song, espec for the Crue.
Down 'AT' the Whiskey, not 'WITH'. The Whiskey-a-Go-Go is a club on the Sunset Strip in LA. It's not a song about getting tanked, it's a song reminiscing about Motley's beginnings.
my favourites...the animal in me...mother fucker of the year...just another psycho...Goin' Out Swingin'...and this
Ack, compare this to songs off Decade like Teaser, Angela, Rock 'N Roll Junkie, Primal Scream. Not NEARLY as good. I miss the real Crue. They haven't been anything like it since they broke up and the crap started. Shame too, they were really hitting a stride after Dr. Feelgood.
NO, TOMMYS gf was named Bullwinkle cuz Vince thought she looked like a moose. Jesus, get ur facts right!!!!!!
i got the cd its on there tooo its messed
it's weird! o.O
I've heard it also just don't know what it says!
okay.. i don't know if anybody else can here it..., but in alot of these new songs there is a guy saying something in the middle of the song.. you can barely here it, but it's there... can someone please tell what it is!? in this song it's at 1:41/1:42 Listen very closely!!!
okay.. i don't kn ow if anybody else cab here it..., but in alot of these new songs there is a guy saying something in the middle of the song.. you can barely here it, but it's there... can someone please tell what it is!?
absolutley
Awesome! They just described my dream life! lol
Dude, they're Motley Crue. They'll NEVER stop rocking!!!!!
Hope they can keep rockin!! This is a cool tune. Keep it goin boys!!
one of mi fave songs on the album just bought it yesterday
Hell yeah, and I like MF of the year and Whats it gonna take. I've always been a huge fan and this album is vintage Crue.
WEAK. When I think of what this band once was, and what they are now, I would never pay to go and see them play shit like this.
WHAT THE FUCK is this smegma?
the songs on this album were made to be played live, can't wait.
Before this album, I was a small M C fan, but now after this album came out, it's changed my mind about them, and I listened to this whole album twice in a row, my fave songs are SOLA, Down at the Whisky, and Goin' Out Swingin' !!!!
I was a big Crue fan from about 9 until 15 or so, starting in 85. It's Vince Neil who made them stand out.
And this is probably my favorite song on the album, especially if you read The Dirt.
Yeah, the (MF'ing) books work b/c you are paying to hear about their lives unlike this song. You're forgetting Shout At the Devil - their best album for my taste.
True that... Kickstart would be kickazz....
Wow, the vox are so incredibly whiny. No "I Don't Remember When We Were On The Run" b/c I am not a member of your band. Songs with direct lyrics about a band's history? Always = t3h fail.
I was a huge fan, but Crue jumped the shark about 15 years ago.
God this song sounds so nasally.
Rock Band Next Week!
