Motion City Soundtrack - Hold Me Down Lyrics
I found a letter that said:
"I'm sorry that you were asleep when I wrote these words down,"
You'd think I'd ought to be used to that by now.
Save for a few of those late night episodes,
Missed opportunities, and "I Don't Cares,"
I'll have my brother stop by this Saturday to pick up my things,
Just make sure you're not there.
This may sound bad, and don't take it the wrong way..
I love you, however,
You hold me down [x4]
You're the echoes of my everything,
You're the emptiness the whole world sings at night.
You're the laziness of afternoon,
How will I break the news to you? [x2]
Cancel our dinner with Max and Coraline,
feed Jacky's gerbil and try to stay clean.
We'll talk it over after I've had some time alone to sort it out.
You hold me down [x4]
You're the echoes of my everything,
You're the emptiness the whole world sings at night.
You're the laziness of afternoon,
You're the reason why I burst and why I bloom.
You're the leaky sink of sentiment,
You're the failed attempts I never could forget.
You're the metaphors I can't create to comprehend this curse that I call love..
How will I break the news to you? [x5]

Motion City Soundtrack Hold Me Down Comments
Love it like the first day I heard it back in time
Such a sharply written account of those relationships that don't implode with force and suddenness, but rather degrade and slow down until they reach the end, a "destination". You look out the window and realize you're there; sooner or later, you have to get out. And it's from the perspective of the other person to boot, which is difficult to pull off convincingly. At the time this song (and band/album) was popping up, I was just getting into that "entering-college-age-getting-into-obscure-and-abrasive-indie-music" phase, so I was very resistant to liking bands like this, but this song turned me around.
+mywhychromosome By far, easily, my favorite Motion City song; always has been.
My cynical and pretentious self usually cringes at expressive and well worded comments but i really enjoyed reading this. Even your username is clever. I have had similar experiences. Hope all is well!
I still love obscure indie music as much as mainstream music. I guess I just don't have a bias in any capacity. In fact, I love a ton of genres, folkpunk, popunk, punk, emo, ska ect.
Tragically beautiful
