2018...great music doesn't falter throughout time...along with iconic voices and faces.

This music sounds good 30 + years later. The Motels were one of the better pop bands (to me they are more pop than new wave or alternative) from the 1980s. Martha Davis has a voice that expresses the emotion of her songs. Music I wrote off as fluff back in the day sounds pretty good compared to the trash of today. IMHO, the 80s were the last era of listenable pop music.

Their best tune (of the hits at least). Only the Lonely and Suddenly Last Summer get all the play, but this one's the forgotten gem in my opinion.

This was the first song on the flip side of "Little Robbers", which was super-convenient because it was easy to place the needle at the beginnig if you wanted to play this song over and over again -- which I most certainly did.

how can I forget the nights...f#ck.... anyway this song makes number 2 on my special list of the best songs of all time...that's pretty impressive.. It's not just the song, it's the nights. xoxox to the motels for this gem!!!

I want to think that Martha was not entirely comfortable in making videos.... she seems to even mock the camera knowing how incredibly captivating her eyes are but only revealing brief glimpses of the real girl we see. She tells stories with her music. I fell in love when the Motels were popular in the 80's and when I hear these songs again my heart hurts for those days and that beautiful girl I met so long ago.....

On line I have seen 2 David Bowie references so, must be something to it. One of her is my favorite band !

+Mike Cruz When I saw her last December the opening act was Eddie Japan, a local Boston group. The vocalist told me the name was inspired by Bowie.

I like the David Bowie China Girl reference at 2:20 . I never noticed it before which is weird.

You wouldn't have heard about it. Because it is all part of a musical mystery I created with the help of Yoko Ono back in the summer of 1981. It was Martha who came up with the name "Athena" for my poster that the mystery is partially based on. As the creator of the mystery I am the only one who can step forward and tell that part of the story publicly. Something the corporate media won't allow me to do. Because the corporate media owns most of the companies in the entertainment industry.

I remember that night because I got to be an extra in it!! I was so excited! You can see me at :23, 1:07 and 2:12. It happened by chance when my CSULB film teacher was assisting in the shoot and I went to visit him on the set. It was shot in LAs Chinatown and the old Madame Wong's West club. I had to stand with the cute bass player Michael Goodroe who was dressed as a sailor and I was supposed to be a "lady of the evening". I just ended up being embarrassed and shy on the video and was late for my own singing gig in Orange County. lol..:)

That's really cool. I always loved Martha Davis. A very underrated singer of the 80's- I loved that she had a unique and sultry sound to her voice.

Damn, this song is so good! The early 80s far surpassed the rest of the decade musically. What happened to POP MUSIC (in the U.S.) by 1986? It got so bubblegum. Even bands like this weren't on the charts

TINInBILLY 1986 is most definitely the jumping-off point. I thought for a long time that my dislike of post-1985 (with a few exceptions) was due to my own perception as a new mother. Putting music on hold, hearing it differently as I took on the bliss of child-rearing. It's good to read that my ears weren't fooling me - the Top 40 did indeed see a decline mid-decade.

For a few months now, this my all-time favorite song.
