Moody Blues, The - One Step Into The Light Lyrics

One step into the light
One step away from night
It's the hardest step you're gonna take
The ship to take you there
Is waiting at the head
Of the stairs that lead up through your opening mind

Above the dark despair
Shines a light that we can share
Close your eyes and look up in between your brows
Then slowly breathing in
Feel the LIFE FORCE streaming in
Hold it there, then send it back to him

All the old things are returning
Cosmic circles ever turning
All the truth we've been yearning for
Life is our saviour, saviour, saviour, save your soul

The river of LIVING BREATH
Is flowing through the SUN
He was there before the earth began
The world will drag on you
Use his love to pull you through
Find the mission of YOUR LIFE and start to BE

All the old things are returning
Cosmic circles ever turning
All the truth we've been yearning for
Life is our saviour, saviour, saviour, save your soul

There's one thing I can do
Play my Mellotron for you
Try to blow away your city blues
Your dreams are not unfound
Get your feet back on the ground
The TRUTH will set us FREE, we cannot lose
We cannot love, we just have to CHOOSE

Moody Blues, The One Step Into The Light Comments
  1. M.... H....

RIP Mike Pinder, , Cosmic Circles ever turning........

  2. B.... E....

Mike Pinder's true talent and contribution to the Moody Blues were his always-pensive compositions. Always thinking beyond the confines of temporal reality and toward the metaphysical and the spiritual. The songs themselves were sophisticated tunes and always written around his philosophical and contemplative lyrics. Of all the band members he was by far the best lyricist; and his music appealed to a more mature and thoughtful ear. Pinder is an old soul; it is obvious through his compositions.

  3. C.... ....

This sounds too much like Christian evangelist music. It takes me to a dark place, especially the chorus.

    C.... ....

Great lyrics though. And Pinder should have given the vocals to Justin.

  4. J.... S....

I'm 66 and just found this wonderful wisdom, I was not ready for this knowledge then but I am now I thank the universe for opening my eyes and ears! Judy Sherry

Agree this is the last song contributed by Mike, the true soul of the Moody Blues. They were still great but afterwards but missing that something only Mike could provided.

  7. r.... w....

Thanks for the art added. Kind of reminds me of what was in independent stores around town. Not new-age more like sweet fairy-land. Childhood young adult dreams.

  8. J.... T....

Michael Pinder; the Moody Blues were never the same without him!

  9. B.... G....

What an awesome 'full' sound there with the mighty Meletron, for years I thought it was an orchestra.

  10. m.... ....

I’m weeping! Thank you so much, Mike Pinder! This man could see long before many of us.

  11. S.... A....

    FIND YOUR WAY.....😇😇✨🌟✨🌟💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

  12. i.... ....

The Moody Blues were never the same when Mike Pinder left the group. He added a sense of depth to the music which made them great!

  13. A.... L....

We cannot lose if we choose

  14. B.... G....

    I disappear in this song!

  15. x.... ....

Mike's last song with the band is beautiful.

  26. r.... s....

To the one that saved my life*** love you too*

    r.... s....

randall scott burress a good song on a fairly average moodies album

  27. c.... l....

    Awesomeness

  28. C.... M....

All the Moodies were talented but I felt that Mike Pinder was always the glue that held it together.

    C.... M....

That was true even on the old Laine Era tracks. Think of how "Go Now" would sound without Mike's piano (for a single example).

    C.... M....

...and his influence is still mighty in the band.

    C.... M....

Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas were very talented musicians. The band changed, as is expected, when they left. The Moodys are great but different. Miss hearing Mike and Ray's extraordinary voices and instrumental excellence.

    C.... M....

@coconut grove I'm sure the remaining Moodies greatly miss Ray and Mike!

  29. M.... C....

    Coming full circle ⭕️

  30. M.... C....

It was a beautiful parting gift on what was for me the last true Moody Blues album.

  32. C.... P....

I saw the documentary on the Moody's and for some reason this album Octave just didn't have the mojo. They guys were edgy around each other and the hills above Mailibu where they recorded were under seige for a couple of days with torrential rains with mudslides onto the Pacific Coast Highway. Even Pinder and somebody else got into a car wreck on that highway. That album just wasn't meant to be and it just doesn't have the usual spark of their genius on it. But their full body of work shines likes a beacon.

    C.... P....

Overall not up to their high standards. This song and driftwood reach that standard.

    C.... P....

    @Paul Baransky >>> Agreed.

  33. A.... L....

We just lost Ray.I loved em all!

  34. D.... A....

Beautiful way to exit the Moody Blues. After this, there was really nothing else for Michael to say. Staying with the band would have been redundant. The rest of the group just went around in circles after this. Thank you, Michael for sharing your cosmic visions with us.

  35. B.... A....

BEAUTIFUL Lyrics and beautiful song and melody . Holistic Chef Barry Anderson

  36. C.... J....

    Thank you!!!!

  37. D.... R....

    D.... R....

Great that he's still alive and kicking.

he is very missed and God bless him in whatever he is doing. Love his stuff and the Mellotron brought me to tears so many times

  54. r.... w....

thanks for the post. Great visuals to the last Michael Pinder song with the Moodies.  "Try to blow away your city blues." Inspiration to the youth that was leaving him as he went on to have a quieter life. God bless ya Mike.

  55. G.... V....

    Think very hard...
"All the old things are returning
    Cosmic circles ever turning
All the truth we've been yearning for
Life is our saviour, saviour, saviour, save your soul!"

  56. u.... ....

Look at it as one line: "One step into the light, one step away from night, it's the hardest step you're gonna take. The ship to take you there is waiting at the head of the stairs that lead up through your opening mind."

  57. B.... G....

To Be And Not To Be Is The Answer

  58. k.... ....

"There's one thing I can do. Play my Mellotron for you." Lol :D

  59. A.... ....

    Moody Blues Forever!!!

  60. A.... ....

    Ahhhhh!

  61. P.... A....

One Step into the Light, and He was Gone...!

  62. l.... ....

Hard to see. Screen blurring. Awesome connection between song and grafx.

  63. W.... B....

The last Mike Pinder song recorded and released by the group. We can only hope for his return for a 50 year anniversary of " Days of Future Passed"

  64. P.... S....

it's one of the best videos I've watched! wonderful, beautiful and peaceful! Deserves to be more known!

  65. j.... k....

Last song by mike with the moody blues,.so much talent

  66. M.... v....

The only contribution of Mike Pinder for the Octave album, but for me it's the best track. I really miss the architect of the Moody Blues sound.

    M.... v....

Mark van Heeswijk me too, I think Mike's mellotron is what made the Moodies unique, I really miss him

    M.... v....

Its just not the same without him... they have done some great music no doubt but those albums up to this one are special

    M.... v....

I read somewhere that Mike recorded One Step on his own and it was added, along with the backing vocals later on.

    M.... v....

Nitpick: It was his only songwriting credit, but Mike's voice and keyboards are in evidence throughout the album.

    M.... v....

mike WAS the architect! without him the building of the moody blues collapsed! but the remaining members did the best they could without him...still they were never the same after he left

  67. j.... s....

    Magic !

  68. G.... b....

    One of the moodies best.

  69. T.... ....

I've been listening to The Moody Blues for 30 years, I waited on Seventh Sojourn and Octave until the last few years ( there was a couple of songs I could get into), but I knew then that I would better understand these two albums later on in life, experience comes to mind. And this is the Moody Blues I can relate to now. Love these guys, been listening since The Other Side of Life.

    T.... ....

My first concert was Shawn Phillips and the Moody Blues, at the LA Forum in 1974. The last tour Mike did with them. Without Mike and Ray in the band, the harmony vocals just aren't the same.

    T.... ....

+james edwards - Damn... my first concert was The Moody Blues with the opener being Norman Greenbaum. Would have much rather seen Shawn Phillips. Love his Second Contribution album.

  70. t.... ....

Mike re-recorded this sometime in the 80's and added it as a bonus track to "The Promise" album. I have both versions in my Pinder/Thomas playlist. Thanks for uploading!

    t.... ....

Polygram only released it briefly -- so briefly, in fact, that Ray himself didn't know it had been!

    t.... ....

    I found it in Russia...

  71. M.... ....

@spacepatrolman.I don't think there were hits as such .with this band.Songs were lifted off albums.as opposed to the reverse, which is the norm for a hit making band.John figured as a writer in a few of the'hit'songs, but Nights in White Satin,Voices in the Sky,and Never Comes the Day,extracts from albums were all written by Justin Hayward. My point is that Mike's presence,to me,effectively provided a catalyst for Justin and John with his deeper thinking, even if he didn't actually write the songs

  72. M.... ....

Mike Pinder was a serious loss to the Moody Blues.I love Justin, but I feel their direction changed to slightly more mainstream after his departure

  73. M.... ....

@illuminatedEntity,a perfect video to a deep composition-song is the wrong word here-from Mike.He is the greatest loss to the Moody Blues, next to Justin, should he leave. Some consider the band pretentious, but how so,they just relay the truth about life but,on a deeper level

  74. A.... H....

Love you Mike....You are a musical genius

  75. s.... G....

TRUTH - You have just been given the KEY...Namaste'...Thank You Linda also Zee

  76. m.... b....

  77. D.... T....

    Fantastic.

  78. T.... ....

Thank you so much for your uploads, so many of the very best moody blues.
    You star.

  79. r.... ....

This song is pretty much ALL Mike Pinder and his Mellotron, as there is very little accompanyment by the other Moodies on this MASTERPIECE OF THE HEART !!!!!
    We miss you, Mike !!!!!

    r.... ....

Well, cool bass lines from John, som wicket guitar solo from Justin and nice fills from Greame and vocals et al from Ray - more than "very little"...

  80. D.... T....

    The Moody Blues masterpiece imo.

  81. c.... m....

amazing Mike Pinder...wonderful artist and human being.
it was a a pleasure to live on this planet knowing you were there somewhere.

  90. a.... ....

I always thought that as well. They were never quite the same when he left.

  91. d.... ....

Haven't heard this one for a long time. I've said it before; Justin Hayward and John Lodge are the heart of The Moody Blues. Mike Pindar was the soul

  92. D.... C....

    ...O K >>> >

  93. S.... M....

Beautiful video to a beautiful metaphysical and spiritually uplifting and truthful song. Thank you for making this and also for The Moody Blues for all their contributions! I have loved them since 1970 and I see they were not only wide awake, but always spreading this love and knowledge. Mike Pinder is a master of the mellotron and the music. Bless them all!

  94. a.... ....

    beautiful video!

  95. D.... T....

I still love this more than any other vid/music...

  96. M.... ....

Every time I visit my friend Christine;s grave.I come away thinking of a Moodies song as inspiration.I miss her lots. This song befits her.Mike Pinder is a genius and always will be if not a Moody Blues member

  97. B.... H....

THERE WAS A MIKE -SHAPED, HOLE IN THE MOODIES MUSIC AFTER HE LEFT, AND IT WAS MORE THAN NOTICEABLE! HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE MOODY BLUES MUSIC WAS, AND, STILL IS ASTOUNDING, THANKS MR PINDER!

  98. h.... ....

Truly one of the great voices of our time. For me, this was the last true Moody Blues album, and the finest song on it.
