Moody Blues, The - A Simple Game Lyrics
As time goes by you will see
That we're going to be free
You and me, we'll touch the sky
Can you see in your mind's eye
That we are one
And life is just a simple game
There, by your side, I will be
When this crazy world is free
Free from doubt
When it finds out
Exactly what we're meant to be
That we are one
We're all the same
And life is just a simple game
Thoughts of another day
Flashing through my head
Thinking how life could be
All of the things that our great men have said
Be what we want to be
What we deserve to be
What we are meant to be
As time goes by, you will see
That we're going to be free
You and me, we'll touch the sky
Can you see in your mind's eye
That we are one
We're all the same
And life is just a simple game
We're gonna be free
Oohhh, gonna be free
Gonna be free
(Free, gonna be free, gonna be free, Oohhh)

Moody Blues, The A Simple Game Comments
I'm kind of ashamed to say this, because I *adore* Aussie hip-hop, and some of you may consider the song butchered, but I'm here because of an artist called Seth Sentry, and here is the song...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWUijxSSc9U
Please go easy on me, I'm only some young whippersnapper, but I loved the song. I hope you guys can find some enjoyment from it, too. Thanks.
Genios! 🌈
Be what we want to be, what we deserve to be, WHAT WE ARE MEANT TO BE !!
As time goes by, you will see.
I like Billy Ocean version too
2019 or 3019 this will never die I’m 33 years old this was imprinted to me by my dad’s taste of music but is truly a jewel
Listen to both Billy Ocean & the four tops version not to take anything away from theirs but Mikes is miles above anyones elses. Thanks Mike for such beautiful music which spans time at least for me. Haven't heard it in 35 yrs and yesterday bang, than I had to play it 10 times! What a great feeling almost spiritual. Good job Mike! PS I agree with troonorth.
This is a great song!! I love The Moodies! Have you heard the Four Tops version?? Also, fun to listen too!!
Great music!! I don't hear songs like this much, anymore!!
Peace!! Steve
Great song, lyrics are so deep. I do prefer the Four Tops remake
Great song, great mellotron and great Mike Pinder.
I don't know how this song is so unknown
One of my early favorites.
Way better sung by The 4 Tops!
I first heard this on 1974's "This is the Moody Blues" double album compilation (with different mixes). Noted as the only song not previously released on an album.
what a cool all but forgotten song. Great upload, thanks
Life is real!ditdido
A great song. I had this single, and played the hell out of both sides.
isn't it?
Pure wisdom ! Thank you Mr. Pinder !
Sin palabras mi gran moody blues
Esta otras muchas composiciones de mike tan preciosas
I have In Search of the Lost Chord, and Simple Game isn't on it. I wonder if that was also a UK version thing?
I can't believe how good this is for a B-side, and I can't believe that well over 30 years passed between me becoming a Moody Blues fan and me becoming aware of this track's existence!
And he missed those days when the kids all played when a fist full of dirt made 'em rich all day, now he sits in a grave and he grips on a fistful of change that he saved, it’s a simple game.
Life is a simple game and it's just only the beginning.
Bloody Love this Song.
Mike Pinder = Awesome!!!!!!!!!!
He brought such a different vibe both musically and spiritually to the band!
Forgot about this classic :)
Should have been the A side it would have made numder 1; The Moodies often released the wrong songs for singles in my opinion.
So happy to see the wonderful Mike Pinder with the rest of the Moodies (sans Ray - R.I.P.) at the RRHOF induction! Mike Pinder is a great talent and great man, a real class act.
Love the Moody's little send-up tribute to Mike in the final song of 1999's "Strange Times" that ends with Hayward singing "Nothing changes and nothing stays the same, and life is still a simple game." The song trails off with a single synth chord and lone piano note.
Absolutely fabulous!
Well all the songs are good and they all are fan's favorite. I am sure Justin has many songs that are his favorite. and I feel it will always be "Nights" that brought them to fame. Plus introducing orchestra to rock songs. I sill love Justin no matter what. I love them all. Justin is the heart of the band, John is the personality of the band and Graham is the VOICE of the band and if Ray Thomas was still there he'd be the psychedelic part of the band. That's just me commenting on the Greatest Band EVER!!!!
Pattie Kelly you didn’t mention Mike, who wrote this song - he was the soul of the band!
Fantastic song. Does Anybody know if this (single) version is available on cd anywhere? The only version I can seem to find fades in during the first 15-20 seconds of the song.
At the risk of ruining the flow of the album, I'd love if this song had replaced "The Actor" on In Search of the Lost Chord. Not that I don't like "The Actor," but this song fits in better with the theme of the album, and come on... it's too good not to be officially on the album! I cannot stop listening to it.
agreed! I actually don't like "the actor" but love this song!
Phi life cypher brought me here :b
My favourite. Love that voice
one of my 2 songs when I shuffle off this mortal coil.
Life is just a simple game. Don't let others complicate it for you.
Justin favorite song is Question I watched the recent interview with my own eyes. The person interviewing him thought it was "Nights" and when he said NO IT"S QUESTION I about fell over. You're right Nights got them stardom and by far they are the best band ever. Still doing concerts even on cruise ships and keeping their music alive. But really it's fair to say EVERY song they did is great. Although "Nights" was my favorite.
2 people can't see that they are going to be free.
🎶🎵 🤣
A Classic!!! Magnificent!!!
hip hop bought me here.
gorillaz brought me to phi life cypher and they brought me here
This world ain't turning on us, this world is turning with us.
Life is simple, I developed the complex
recorded by the Four tops for a massive hit in '72 & now getting a new lease of life as Billy Ocean has covered it
what are they singing in the chorus after they sing "Life is just a simple game" - cannot find it in the lyrics anywhere.
+polly olga yobek Doo do Doo do
really? doesn't sound like it
+polly olga yobek Listen to the Four Tops version and you'll hear it.
The B-Sides of the 60's-70's are million times better than all the No1' s of the 90's till today .
I can't believe this gem is B-Side...
The beggining of the song reminds Dolly Parton's - Jolene (it's exactly the same).
Of course, Jolene was written 5 years later
And the rest of the song reminds later songs.
Those days, great composers influenced others
And this great song should be recognized as a classic one.
+cas3003 There are a lot of examples of the b sides being better than the a sides & this I think is one of them & yeah you could throw a dart at all the songs from the 60s & it would land on a better song than whatever #1 is now
I have "Ride My See-saw" 45 on Deram, but "Voices in the Sky" is the B side. This must be a UK edition. Great song
+thewillismon Yes UK had A simple Game & US Voices in the sky
I love this song. I like old songs
The most favorite song for Justin, we all would think Nights in White Satin, but is isn't. The song Justin like the best is Question. I found that interesting. They are still the best rock group ever. And they still draw crowds of thousands and haven't really released any new songs together. Those are faithful fans. Rock On Moodies!!!
+Pattie Kelly Interesting to read that Pattie, as I thought his favourite was Nights! When I first heard this one though I thought it was a cover of the Four Tops before reading that it was the other way round! Theirs was more assertive but probably the Moodies version more meaningful perhaps.
Actually, Justin has gone on record citing "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" as his favourite (at least in terms of the last decade or so). But, I'm confident that "Question" is up there because it was their most successful single, and "Nights" began their sustained success.
Pattie Kelly In an interview on the video "Legend of a Band" Hayward says his most satisfying song is "Other Side of Life." Why I don't know, it just seems like many of Justin's songs, nothing special like "Nights" or "Question."
In listening to the lyrics of this song, there is a spiritual philosophy going on here that is growing, especially now, in our time. This resonates with the near death experience. What a truly, lovely song this is. And so melodic. 'Can you see in your mind's eye that we're all one.' A spiritual truth.
+abyios This is my favorite Moody Blues record...2 Record or 2- 8 Tracks.... Awesome. I had a Chevy Van.
Marty helps if you have pisces influences.
Feb' 20th
jblcva and that’s alright with me...
bullshit. Are you a Taurus ? LOL
According to Mike Pinder, this is his favorite of his self-penned tunes of the Moody's.
Amazing track in my opinion should have been an A side
Totally agree
There was a time between the first and the third of the seven sojourn records when the moodies had to find themselves. Some very good songs were discarded as conceptual LP contributions, but thanks to the heavens these songs were preserved for us to enjoy
I wonder why this was not included on the ISOTLC album?
Those mellotron voices crashing in at 0:27 do it for me very time. Glorious!
I'm pretty sure that is them actually singing.
This post has better audio quality than the other YouTube versions. The song is incredible. Seriously, this should be an all-time classic. Released as a B-Side!?
LOL,It should be on a A+++ ***** side as it's just a simple game&these guys speak eternally of eternity to those with ears to hear!
kristinwhite84
Fasten your seatbelts and take off on the Four Tops version of Simple Game. Both versions have their own incredible thought dynamic! All time fave song of mine!
https://youtu.be/EDID-1NYAjg
One of the greatest songs ever written. Mike Pinder knew his shit.
+Upshur Whittock He was Justin Hayward's mentor.
he had help from the Angels of Heaven!
Upshur Whittock Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder; greatness.
@Marty wasn't he?
he smoked it
Thanks a lot. Great song.
