This version drops the chorus " never vvas there an ansvver vvithout..." It's still a good unicorn cover though. I like Monster Magnet but in this case I think Gilmours version is the more sorrovvfull, as its supposed to be a sad song. Still I'd give it 4 and 1/2 outof 5

I think all are different and good. It´s just way much more heavier than all.

I've been imagining an ideal version, and haven't found anything that's all that close. What's so damn disappointing about Gilmour's version is how tame the guitar is, like they had a shitty producer who kept saying, "No, no, no. Tone it down, this is a low-key number." Crock. This rendition is closer to ideal. I still like Gilmour's voice. The instrumentals played it way too safe.

The chorus has a harder punch with Monster.

this is good, imo; Ken Baker's, Pat Martin's, and Unicorn's is best; and pf guy's copy is perfectly produced.

Gilmour's is better. Dave changed some words, omitted others. Hard to say if he is giving homage or just finding something he could sell. Huge Magnet fan though. Liked this track more before I heard Gilmour's.

Obviously, his cover IS going to always blow the rest out of the water. But really, as far as covers go this is pretty good.

Gilmour played it way way too safe with the guitar, like, "Oh, can't be sounding like Floyd too much on this." Even though he found a single song that lyrically sums up most of Floyd's catalog. :P

Meh, it's not like Gilmour's version. His is still the best

@Jacob Crowell This isn't as good as the Unicorn or Gilmour's version. MM's singer cut out the secondary chorus, "There never was there an answer. There an answer, Not without listening, Without seeing" which makes this version irrelevant imho.

Haha, Gilmour really did justice to the song. I'm on the fence about this version. It's definitely got an edge to it. Maybe Metallica should give it a try. Hey, if it doesn't work out, at least you'll appreciate Gilmour's version even more! :)

Sure, if you're looking for something to sound like David Gilmour then this won't. It's Monster Magnet covering a song that meant something to him, and by this very nature you take on a new sound. I like it because it appeals more to my personality type when transferring the emotion of the song.

Monster Magnet does a great cover. Sounds like awesomeness... I love MM and I love Gilmour...I can't pick a favorite.

Well the point of the cover is to maintain a balance of keeping the original flair of the song while putting your own style in it. I think these guys were successful with that. There are certainly worse covers and there may be better covers, but this is a good song.

Having listened to all 3 versions now, I can safely say I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Though personally Gilmour's is the version I'll always look for.

Unicorn's version was very well done and enjoyable.
David Gilmour's version was bluesy, soulful, and just possessing of that emotional intensity that volume and heaviness just can't match.
Monster Magnet's version is interesting and a valiant effort to make the song their own, so kudos to them.

I like Monster Magnet however only one person can do this song and that guy is Mr. David Gilmour. Great effort though. Still would give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

" that's the changing point to the song the part where, where the singer is asking God if the answer was ever given. and Gods reply was "you have to listen and watch, you cant help pay attention if your helping make noise"

Interesting version. Too bad they blew off the middle section of the song that goes" And ever was there an answer..." But they've got good taste in covering it, though I prefer Unicorn's original recording.
