My wife and I got to see Monolord at Black Circle Brewing 11-21-19 and it was the best show I've ever been too!

Larvae, Alone Together and No Comfort are such comfortably melancholic songs that I really wish Monolord will steer more in to that direction.

Amazing album!

I have been a huge fan of this band ever since they first dropped empress rising, but I am really not liking this new record and that upsets me greatly.

Yeah, ditto. Not really upset, but disappointed. Definitely not the album I was hoping for, but I still bought it on bandcamp even after a few listens. The first 2:35 of Last Leaf are good and Skyward is good, but that's pretty much it. I like mellow jams as much as anyone, but I don't look to Monolord for them.


That said, not every album has to be for me. It was pretty obvious with Rust that they wanted to move in a new direction, and I guess this album is where they want to be right now. As a fan, I'm glad to see they are reaching new listeners. As a listener, I'll be listening to their older stuff and hoping this album isn't their last.

@Mr Snarks you hit the nail on the head, and I was saying a similar thing to my gf a couple of days ago, not every bit of doom I listen to has to be slown horrible drone, and I can enjoy melody as much as the next guy, but that's not why I listen to monolord lol. Yea the signs where definitely there with rust but at least they still maintained that core monolord sound n vibe along side the added bit of melody, but this record other than Thomas' vocals just doesn't sound like monolord to me.
But like you it ain't gonna stop me from listening to there previous work and hopefully we get a return to old on the next record lol.

This is Monolord’s most ambitious album. The way I’m listening to it compared to the other albums “No Comfort” really expands on their musicianship and their willingness to experiment with melodies is what makes this album amazing. I know the die hard fans aren’t digging it as much because of the other albums are in their own right iconic but however I would like to point out even with the melodic nature of this album Monolord still brought their sound to this album. Overall this album is a tried and true Doom Album that is a classic

This album is amazing and sounds killer, larvae reminds me of heavier slowed down version a certain rock song from the 70's that I can't quite put my finger on and it's driving me crazy.

It must be Over and over, from Mob Rules (Black Sabbath, 1981). Larvae is swimming in those doomiesque waters so well charted by Tony, Terry, Vinnie and Ronnie! Doom on!

Unholy shit, yeah. I've just finished listening to Larvae for the first time, and it instantly became my new favorite Monolord song. What a fucking monster of a song. It's like a bog witch slowly but inescapably drags you down the swamp. Can't wait for the vinyl to finally arrive!
