Monkees, The - Tapioca Tundra Lyrics

Reasoned verse, some prose or rhyme
Lose themselves in other times
And waiting hopes cast cast silent spells
That speak in clouded clues.
It cannot be a part of me,
For now it's part of you.

Careful plays on fields
That seems to vanish when they're in between
And softly as I walk away
In freshly tattered shoe.
It cannot be a part of me
For now it's part of you.

Sunshine, ragtime
Blowing in the breeze.
Midnight, looks right
Standing more at ease.

Silhouettes and figures stay
Close to what he had to say
And one more time the faded dream
Is saddened by the news.
It cannot be a part of me
For now it's part of you.

Well, Sunshine, ragtime
Blowing in the breeze.
Midnight, looks right
Standing more at ease.

[Instrumental]

Sunshine, ragtime
Blowing in the breeze.
Midnight, looks right
Standing more at ease.

Silhouettes and figures stay
Close to what he had to say
And one more time the faded dream
Is saddened by the news.
It cannot be a part of me
For now it's part of you.

Monkees, The Tapioca Tundra Comments
  1. J.... L....

This one and Don't call on me are my Monkees favorite songs....the lyrics...without the music...a real poem.

  2. D.... d....

I remember being captivated by this song when I was a kid, it was on the flip side of a 45 my sister's had

  3. L.... W....

    What a brilliant poem/song!

  4. W.... F....

Michal Nesmith in my opinion was the most musicly and vacally talented.

    W.... F....

Peter Tork was a very good song writer and far more proficient musician (not to take away from Michael: He also gave cred to Peter's musical skills/said that Peter was a far better guitar player. Again, NOT to take away from Mike's abilities, but to give some credit to the very underrated Mr. Tork!)

  5. b.... b....

Me and my dad where searching through the attic and we found a huge box of old 45 records in there. I played around with them on my record player and I found this song and I fell in love with it!

  6. G.... W....

This is such a great song! This album is one of my favorites from them.

  7. J.... J....

This  is my second favorite Monkees song. Door into Summer is my favorite. Michael Nesmith is a truly talented lyric writer.

    J.... J....

I couldn't agree with you more, Jeffery. ! Same here. But Papa Gene's Blues still gets me to the core any time I hear it. Same with What Am I Doin' Hanging 'Round. Love this man!

  8. k.... m....

    My fifth favourite Mike song

  9. D.... T....

Is Mike Nesmith passed away along with Davy Jones and Peter Tork? Now that Mickey Dolenz is the only member left of the Monkees.

    D.... T....

Mike and Mickey are the two remaining band members still alive.

  10. R.... M....

He didn't need The Monkees. They needed him though.

  11. J.... R....

    im very bored

Just another of the many that I've enjoyed so much through the years! Nes always sang the songs where the title had absolutely nothing to do with the songs. :-) :-) :-)

  14. T.... C....

    The Monkees rule. Period.
    xoxo The Clarences

  15. C.... M....

This is in one of my Music Selections pages on Facebook, where I am carl.moore.7792 .

  16. D.... D....

I figured out all the chords to this track when it came out. It was chore. But such a cool song.

  17. M.... M....

Absolutely love the guitar work on this and also on the studio version of Circle Sky.

  18. S.... J....

This is slightly clearer than others that have been posted.

  19. d.... ....

My sister bought this album when it came out and we played it to death as kids. I pretty much dismissed the more edgy experimental side (especially the production) of The Monkees as an imitation of real artists as I saw it like The Beatles and Beach Boys, but I realize now, looking back on this whole album it was put together in March 1968! This was in the thick of it, not after it.

  20. R.... H....

I L-O-V-E songs such as this !!! It makes complete sense !!! :)

  21. M.... R....

    I like Mike's vocals. He's great

  22. T.... K....

Another GREAT Nez. composition. If you notice, Mike always insisted on singing lead on the songs he wrote. Few exceptions to that rule. Check out "The girl that I knew somewhere" with Mike singing lead as he wrote the song but they decided that it sounded better with Mickey doing the lead. You can pull up the version of Mikes led vocal version right here on You Tube.

    T.... K....

    MICKY!!!

    T.... K....

Mike also wrote Mary Mary before the Monkees formed. Originally recorded by Paul Butterfield.

  23. z.... 1....

After all these years I still remember the lyrics --- but can't remember why I walked into this room lol

    z.... 1....

You too eh? Guess it's testament to how the lyrics just dig their way deep into your memory and stay there. Terrific stuff.

    z.... 1....

That's why I'm here.... suddenly in the middle of my routine today this song just burst into my mind.

    z.... 1....

Emily Pollifax anytime I see the word tapioca this song pops into my head

  24. T.... P....

anyone who played the instruments on this track.

  25. R.... C....

You can't get "Tapioca Tundra" at Baskin-Robbins.

    R.... C....

    Ronald Charles Epstein
if that's true, I somehow don't like the idea..don't really know why.. crazy-cool song

    R.... C....

You can if somebody left the record lying about when they left the shop. ;-)

  26. f.... ....

    best Monkees song?

    f.... ....

Great song...I believe this was the flip side of the 45 "Valleri"

    f.... ....

best monkee song in my opinion since I was 6 years old and my older sister got Valleri single in March 1968

    f.... ....

This, and "Daily Nightly", "Writing Wrongs", and their X-mas song, "Riu Chiu" (acapella), "Shades Of Gray", and "Zor & Zam" are their best !

    f.... ....

    No. The Door Into Summer!!

    f.... ....

    Always been my favourite too

  27. E.... V....

    Another Mike Nesmith classic!

  28. C.... N....

    What a beutiful song...

  29. B.... C....

    Michael Nesmith's is really underrated

  30. w.... ....

    no he didnt
    its unknown who played bass

    w.... ....

    Either Chip Douglas or Peter.

    w.... ....

Since there are no keyboards in this song it was more likely Peter

  31. p.... ....

i'm not 100% sure, but Chip Douglas produced and played bass for a number of albums

  32. S.... ....

And what's even funnier or sad was he auditioned as a bass player and then they went out and found other bass players. But yes, it's him on this.

  33. A.... R....

peter tork the quiet monkee and silly one.

    A.... R....

Mike was the quiet and reflective one but yes, Peter was the silly one.

    A.... R....

    RIP Peter
