Monkees, The - Auntie's Municipal Court Lyrics

Fine man, crazy man, he can't see
Sound of the sunset, sound of the sea
Why do the people always look at me?
Nobody here can see that we are you
We are you
She's him, too
She's him, too
Fine man, crazy man, he can't see
Sound of the sunset, sound of the sea
Mmmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmm

Solid brass statuary guards the door
Used to come as one, now it comes as four
Somebody here just sent for more
Red and yellow cartoons saying we need two
We need two
More than you
More than you
Solid brass statuary guards the door
Used to come as one, now it comes as four
Mmmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmm

Somebody stole their mind
Somebody stole their mind
They say they can't find
What is kind
What is kind

[Instrumental]

Somebody stole their mind
Somebody stole their mind
They say they can't find
What is kind
What is kind

Fine man, crazy man, he can't see
Sound of the sunset, sound of the sea
Why do the people walk away from me?
Nobody here wants to see that we are you
We are you
She's him, too
She's him, too
Fine man, crazy man, he can't see
Sound of the sunset, sound of the sea
Mmmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmm

Sound of the sunset, sound of the sea
Mmmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmm

  1. n.... 5....

    Yesterday😍

  2. L.... I....

Mono version is more complete, the mix really makes the song feel alive, in stereo some things are at a lower volume

  3. T.... B....

Easily one of the best tracks off the album The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees.

  4. S.... B....

La mia musica degli monkees predileta dappoi di sunny girfriend, chiaro!!

  5. J.... S....

  9. P.... S....

    7 people need an education

  10. K.... M....

I prefer this version with Micky singing lead and Phyllis doing backing...its like Mike wrote it for Micky

  11. S.... J....

I love this, this is a track I might try. So off-beat without trying too hard. I remember Micky talking about leaving a hotel one early morning and just singing songs and telling stories to the children who were walki g to school until a local constable made them move on, always reminds me of this song.

  12. L.... S....

    Amazing

  13. M.... M....

Michael and Mickey have the best chemistry together of all of the Monkees. (And most people think it's Mickey and David; in a word, no.)

    M.... M....

    That's MICKY, obviously!!!

    M.... M....

Brynn Kennedy  Read my comment again. Your response makes no sense. I was talking about in general, not this song specifically.

    M.... M....

    M. M. I couldn't agree more I love when they harmonise. The end bit of All Of Your Toys and Me And Magdalena

  14. B.... ....

If heroin was porridge I'd eat this song for breakfast every morning. An absolute beast

  15. i.... ....

    LOVE! Guitars galore.

  16. J.... B....

    WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 73yo Aussie fan.

  17. f.... ....

    Rubber Monkee Revolver Soul!

  18. D.... G....

One of my favorite Monkees tunes!

  19. P.... ....

    Auntie Grizelda's Criminal Court ::fear::

  20. R.... C....

What sort of law does it uphold?

  21. C.... S....

Micky sings lead. Mike sings harmony, but Mike's harmony vocal was the original lead vocal. There's another mix with Mike on lead, although Micky's vocal makes a brief appearance on the mix.

    C.... S....

Do you know where I can find the other track. I thought I remembered it differently.

    C.... S....

@Susan Jenssen Sorry for not responding sooner. I wasn't notified of your message. If you're still wondering, try typing "The Monkees - Auntie's Municipal Court (Mike's Vocal)" into the search bar.

  22. t.... ....

I still get those goosebumps during the lead break.

  23. T.... K....

Absolutely, ab·so·lute·ly. Micky and Mike harmonizing is a beautiful thing.

  24. b.... b....

This song and Daily Nightly, sigh <3

    b.... b....

Yes! Daily Nightly is so very very.

  25. c.... b....

One of my favorite songs...and one more of the Monkees' highly underrated songs. Nez is a genius, and he was right that Micky should have been considered the "voice" of the Monkees.

    c.... b....

    luv ya candy :)

  26. R.... P....

mike's then current wife Phyllis is singing background on the first chorus....also listen to deluxe version where mike and micky share lead.. simply the best "imo" Monkees song.. along with 40 more...

    R.... P....

While he was doing some Israeli chick and oopsy... out pops Jason Nesmith. Phyllis didn't get rid of Mike until 1972.

    R.... P....

    @M. M. brilliant

  27. B.... ....

Agreed on Micky's voice, but it's Mike in the background on this one...the original version with just Mike exists somewhere on YouTube....

  28. M.... C....

Micky sings lead and harmony on this tune. His voice is so amazing he can sing all parts himself - just like on his new CD Remember. There are no other singers on the tunes besides Micky. As usual, Mike was far ahead of the curve with this tune and generously had Micky do the vocals - he still says Micky has the best vocals of anyone he knows. Bros forever ;)

  29. D.... J....

i love this song and mickie voicse and how its arrange

  30. r.... ....

Written by Mike Nesmith, which is why there's a hint of country music to it.

    r.... ....

Credits say Gerry Goffin and Carol King wrote it.

    r.... ....

@Joel Johnson Credits also say this is "Star Collector" which it is not.

  31. J.... R....

    Mickey Dolenz lead vocal.

  32. A.... R....

    Who individually sings this song?

  33. 6.... ....

Hard to hear but great Bass riff.

  34. 6.... ....

Great Tune another Sgt. peppers type tune
