Modest Mouse - What People Are Made Of Lyrics
Rag weed tall better hope that his ladder don't crack
Or he'll hit the ground low, hard and out of his back
At the battle at the bottom of the ocean, well the dead
do rise
You need proof I got proof at the surface you can watch
Way in back of the room, there sits a cage
Inside it's a clock that you can win if you can guess its age
Which you never can do cuz the time it constantly changes
For luck or lack
I guess that is the saying
On the first page of the book of blue it read
"If you read this page, than that'll be your death"
By then it was too late
And you wound up on an island of shells and bones that
bodies had left
'bout human beings was this
They ain't made of nothin' but water and shit

Modest Mouse What People Are Made Of Comments
oh how i love the acoustic guitar in the last part, I wish this song was longer!
I feel like this song should’ve been the opener for the album. It’s the perfect song to bridge the nonstop anger from lonesome crowded west to the sounds of cold and broken that this album gives off.
You ever just listen to a song and not understand a damn thing they’re saying but then go and read the lyrics and then you can perfectly understand everything they say

This album slowly falls to insanity with each song,
I've just recently really gotten into Strangers To Ourselves. It's incredible. It took me a while to warm up to We Were Dead as well. I've come to realize MM doesn't produce bad music. Even stuff that lots of fans find "commercial" is 100x better than anything else out there. I've contemplated suing Isaac and the rest of the band for being so fucking good I just can't listen to anything else. (Before the jackasses start making snide comments, go back and re-read that last sentence.) Can't wait to see them in Orlando in November (and BTS in October)!
This is so awesome. It hits you right in the guts after all the other hypnotic and mostly quiet, reflective songs. The sequencing of songs on this album is amazing. Truly one of the greatest albums ever, a hidden treasure not many know of.

Please help us exposing Bullying (by sharing this video) and get Modest Mouse to sing the hook (properly) because if we can get them involved, we have a MUCH better chance of our efforts leading to SOLUTIONS!!! We don't care about "fame", we care about EXPOSING THE TRUTH and sticking it to the bullies at CAKU and other FAKE pages..

I think this song is an excellent close to "The Moon and Antarctica". I like to think of the album as a story of trying to accept some sort of grim reality to whatever low point you're at in your life, having a mostly mellow and gentle tone to every song as if trying to approach it from a calm and collected standpoint, but this being the last song, and with all of the intense ferocity, is like you're finally saying "Ok, no, I don't need to take this shit, I can be fucking mad as hell if I want to."
Modest Mouse are better than anyone I know at encapsulating the wild energy of a bad low point. Don't think I'll ever stop loving the lyrics to this.
About a year ago, during a brief obsession with the Elisa Lam case, I convinced my friends that "The Moon & Antarctica" has a conceptual connection with Elisa Lam the way "In The Airplane Over The Sea" has with Anne Frank. How I explained the fact that TM&A came 13 years before the Elisa Lam case is this: None of my friends are Modest Mouse connoisseurs. They don't know shit.
such a beautiful song ❤

We keep trying to achieve the same pointless goals and it never works out, but it wont stop us from ramming our stupid heads into a brick wall.
Star Blood Isaac had to smash his head alot then
screaming didn't deafen me, not loud enough
Whats up? Make love?
The reason this song is so awesome is because the preceding hour is so hypnotic and dreamy and surreal. It lulls you into a trance. And then this song just fucking COMES AT YOU.
This song gives me the chills especially after completing the amazing and terrifying philosophical journey of listening to this masterpiece in it's entirety.
There are so many great bands out there, but I always end up at Modest Mouse!

The drums really make this song.
