Modest Mouse - Steam Engenius Lyrics
I was born in the factory
Far away from the milky teat
What's the use?
Oh, what's the use?
A mechanical sacrificial calf for you
Oh, all for you
Steam engenius, you see
Steam engenius enough to answer anything you need
But what's the use?
Human nature was what started me
Well, I acted once right but naturally it wasn't hatching love
Though not my fault
I held in my hands the beating heart of a robot
He driven his car
He's sitting there burning
Now in the parking lot
Just for you
What a waste of time
What a waste of words
What a waste of strength
Well, I smoke in binary
And you see far
You meant for clenching your leg
I was born in the factory
Far away from the milky teat
What's the use?
Oh, what's the use?
Bliss through waters, I was split in half
A mechanical sacrificial calf that flew
Oh, off they flew
Steam engenius, you see
Steam engenius enough to answer anything you need
And I like speed
I held in my hands the beating heart of a robot
He driven his car
He's sitting there
Waiting car in the parking lot
Out for you
What a waste of time
What a waste of words
What a waste of strength
Well, I smoke in my air
And you spoke far
You meant for dizzying lay
(I was born in the factory)
Both hassle men
Half like a joke
Trying to make another joke
Laugh, ha ha
Stasisity's what you brought
Like a rickshaw getting pulled around by another rickshaw
Rickshaw..
In the past talking present tense
Gonna break it
Gonna wreck it
Gonna try to make it all make sense
Stasisity's what you got
Like a rickshaw getting pulled around by another rickshaw
Steam engenius, you see
Steam engenius enough to bring my own damn doom
What could I do?
I been blamed then blamed the groom
Well, deep inside everybody knew it was them
It's caught on them
Things rain in stories Greek
I didn't want it, you gave me deity
It was you
Yeah, all for you
I was born in the factory
Far away from the milky teat
What's the use?
Oh, what is the use?
I held in my hands the beating heart of a robot
He driven his car
He's sitting there crying
All the way in the parking lot
Just for you
I'll start up the man
(?)
Then rip into my
(?)
(?)
I didn't even know that was my own damn plan
What a waste of time
What a waste of words
What a waste of breath
Well, I spoke it by now
You broke your thought
You meant for (?)
I held in my hands the beating heart of a robot
He driven his car
He's sitting there crying
Now waiting for you in the parking lot
Going woo-hoo
Stasisity's what you got
Like a rickshaw getting pulled around by another rickshaw

Issac was lonely his friends left the rural area for the urban age in the industrial world and still there it was miserable

The prescient conversation between man and AI. Also, a great song about me really really high/low! Also I'm full of baloney
Oh! WHATS THE USE!?
I thoroughly enjoy all the screams this guy throws out in his music. It's pure enthusiasm, meanwhile. . .singing about being a robot.
Check out the sequel " Humans are Dead " by the Flight of the Conchords
Woohoo woohoo, wooooooohoooooo
Thumbs up from me
There are some of Isaac's songs that to me sound like they're about his difficulty in relating to other people and to humanity in general - I get that from Baby Blue Sedan ("it's hard to be human for me") and a lot of their other early songs and they usually take on a very melancholy vibe - this one is one where I feel like he's become totally accepting of his occasional difficulties in feeling like a human and he took the concept and ran with it. Literally writing form the perspective of a literal robot that can't relate to human beings, despite being surrounded by and created by humans. I dig that vibe.
thematically reminds me of Metal by Gary Numan (with NIN doing a great cover of it)
probably their best song?
I love this song. It has grown on me so much
My current favorite song
Surprises me when people say they don't like this song or Parting of the Sensory.
Forrest Carr they must have missed the boat! Hahah! Those are two of the best off this record
This one has such steam punk feel to it, love it, fave song off the album.
The strange, almost manufactured music, the awesome, over-the-top vocals, and finally, the absolutely amazing lyrics. Dang MM, y u du dis 2 meh. Then it slows down and you get the stasis, that dang guitar echo stasis, friggin' gold.
canal ONDAS I agree.... love the whole album.. but this on here....
I love the end where he's going complete butts!@! Can't really understand what he's say In the background. !!!!!!@#@@!$$####!!!@%%%%!!!!!!!@@
Nuttz... fucking auto correct
Underrated song. Wish they'd play it live :)
Matt Flatin
Wow bro you been hanging upside down for 3 yrs??!!? DAMN SON!!!!
Why don't they ?!?!
I WAS BORN IN A FACTORY MILSJKSIEMRIKE WHATS THE USE
Far away from the milky teat
What's the use
Does Isaac do all the vocals?
Thanks :)
i think the rest of the band does the background vocals the the woohoo
The shins frontman James Mercer sings backup for them on this album and the new one Strangers to Ourselves. He's the guy doing all the high parts on missed the boat on this album other than that I can guarantee you that Isaac does the rest at least in the studio IDK. He almost always has two tracks on his vocals at all times. One doing the lower octave and one doing the higher. If you notice he doesn't really do too much with vocal harmonies except here and there and I'd have to say on the new album he does more than often like for instance the song The Best Room has some pretty vocal harmonies in the break of the song.
this song sounds way too familiar, is there any other song that sounds a lot like this? was it ever used for an advertisement or movie?
@John Thomas LMAO
+crumble son Bauhaus - Swing the Heartache
That actually made me lol, lol
I think interstate 8 was used in a car commercial like way, way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and we watched volkswagon commercials saying "da, da, da" and, also, "yo quiero taco bell" for no particular reason whatsoever. and that's how history is made. in short snippets you wish wouldn't rot your brain so effectively.
uggh, brain rot. it was gravity rides everything. that is what actually happened.
Every time i listen to a modest mouse song i come to the conclusion that its my favorite song from them and then i listed to the next one and the same thing happens all over again.
@Marco Barquero Sooo true!
I agree.. Ive got like 120 favorite songs
@R. Christian Larkin I have 120 favorite bands with 120 favorite songs from each band! Wrap ur mind around that! BOOOOOMMMMM!!!
Not very mind blowing was it? Now wrap ur mind around that fact!!!!! BABOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM!! SUP?!!?
So true
Great fuckin song
Yes you're mortal, he's in stable condition....

IHELDINMYHANDTHEBEATINGHEARTOFAROBOT
ha ha, 1 dislikes. I likes how the youtubes didn't prepares fors ones dislikes.
probably my favorite Modest Mouse song...
@ridermystery I don't think remorse means what you think it means.
far away from the milk and tea...
Milky teat.
now I wanna be a sacraficial cat too xD like this if isaac writes a ton of songs secretly about cats. because he does.
He's never written a song about cats.
Noodle Mice Eat Cheese mentions a cat. I Came as a Rat mentions a cat. And there's An Apology from a Dog to a Cat. Also I have a modest mouse t-shirt with a jumping cat on it. Maybe Isaac does really like cats, but original comment was dumb and just begging for likes
*Sacrificial calf
I had to pull this song up because I am reading Lu Xun's "A Small Incident" and he talks about a rickshaw man and I was like "gonna wreck it, gonna wreck it, gonna try to make it all make sense".... lol. "like a rickshaw gettin pulled around by another rickshaw"..... God, I love MODEST MOUSE! Isaac Brock connects us all to everything somehow.
This song kinna reminds me of Cake.
If you watch in 360p it actually is better quality than 480p lol
Thanks for Posting Guercinator!!! :D Also <3 you Issac!!!! :D
