Moakler, Steve - Steel Town Lyrics

In a steel town
It's all fun and games ‘til graduation
When you work 51 or take one for vacation
In a beach town
In a steel town
That shift you work is what the world revolves round
When that whistle winds, it's someone's time to wind down
Over a cold round

In a steel town you learn how
To bend and not break
How to hang in, how to cut loose
How to find a way
How to start with nothing, build it from the ground
Everything that matters most I learned about

In a steel town
All the talk is football and the weather
And it always seems next season's looking better
Than right now
Yeah, in a steel town
Your boots and jeans and shirts and cars are passed down
There's not a lot but there's enough to go around
I found

In a steel town you learn how
To bend and not break
How to hang in, how to cut loose
How to find a way
How to start with nothing, build it from the ground
Everything that matters most I learned about
In a steel town
In a steel town, ooh

In a steel town
We realize we're all in this thing together
And you learn to take the heat and stand the pressure
In a meltdown

In a steel town
In a steel town
How to start with nothing, build it from the ground
You can leave, but your heart will hang around
In a steel town
Yeah, in a steel town
In a steel town

Your music has been the thing that's kept me connected to my roots for the last few years. Back when I was 14 I got hurt riding a horse I loved. Wasn't any body's fault. Just a scared horse looking out for himself. Anyway I had to quit riding, because the fall gave me a concussion, which triggered two illnesses that were in my genes to show up. I finally got to ride again not too long back, but right now money and health has kept me on the ground. But no matter what happens to you, whe riding is in your blood it's there to stay. Sometimes you need something to remind you of that. For me, your music always reminds me, not only of riding but of living differently than now, when times were more innocent, when I ran barefoot on tender grass, and life was little more than sunshine and tadpoles. It had been a while since I'd thought about those times, or felt any real emotions when listening to a song. But the notification popped up and changed that. Thank you for that.
P.s. I write poetry now, and I'm an artist hoping to go for it and make it a career. I didn't realize until just now that your music meant so much to me, and how inspired I am by your journey. Anyway. Hope you have a good night, and congratulations on your new album. Can't wait to listen to the rest of it. :)
